Okay so it was a long time coming but I'm probably putting this account into the grave I dug for it two years ago. Still will be liking posts but everything else will be relegated to a different blog.

I will still post Elvaria stuff from time to time, but it will be on my general stuff account (@ilisteria).

Why won't tumblr just let me change my primary blog

its official: tumblr is selling our data to Midjourney

Tumblr and Wordpress to Sell Users’ Data to Train AI Tools
404 Media
Internal documents obtained by 404 Media show that Tumblr staff compiled users' data as part of a deal with Midjourney and OpenAI.

we'd been hearing rumors about this for a bit but now its open and out there. some details from this article

Its Official: Tumblr Is Selling Our Data To Midjourney

it goes without saying, but if @staff goes through with this its going to be an utter shitshow and im all but certain the website will not survive it.

Should've expected no less from an Elon Musk fanboy. Fucking disgusting.

We already have a severe bot problem on the internet that the CEO of Tumblr was complaining about, this shit will only make it worse and lead to dead internet theory becoming true.

Hi, Tumblr. It’s Tumblr. We’re working on some things that we want to share with you.

AI companies are acquiring content across the internet for a variety of purposes in all sorts of ways. There are currently very few regulations giving individuals control over how their content is used by AI platforms. Proposed regulations around the world, like the European Union’s AI Act, would give individuals more control over whether and how their content is utilized by this emerging technology. We support this right regardless of geographic location, so we’re releasing a toggle to opt out of sharing content from your public blogs with third parties, including AI platforms that use this content for model training. We’re also working with partners to ensure you have as much control as possible regarding what content is used.

Here are the important details:

We already discourage AI crawlers from gathering content from Tumblr and will continue to do so, save for those with which we partner.

We want to represent all of you on Tumblr and ensure that protections are in place for how your content is used. We are committed to making sure our partners respect those decisions.

To opt out of sharing your public blogs’ content with third parties, visit each of your public blogs’ blog settings via the web interface and toggle on the “Prevent third-party sharing” option.

For instructions on how to opt out using the latest version of the app, please visit this Help Center doc.

Please note: If you’ve already chosen to discourage search crawling of your blog in your settings, we’ve automatically enabled the “Prevent third-party sharing” option.

If you have concerns, please read through the Help Center doc linked above and contact us via Support if you still have questions.

Unfortunately for me, carrd did not let me make my own portfolio site because of the 50-asset limit. Fortunately for you guys, I have about 29 short stories planned and some rewrites, so maybe this account will come back to life but that highly depends on my life and motivation.

I'll likely also be posting on Ao3 when my account is approved. I'll make an update post with my username when that happens.

Don't know if anyone will see this, but if you previously followed me, thanks for sticking around :)

My taglists are pretty much dead in the water now and I don't want people randomly seeing pings after a year of silence, so if you'd like to join, please DM me.

Geology of Natural Disasters and How to write them into your fictional universe.

So, you want to write about a natural disaster to advance your plot and torture your players/characters even more? Let me tell you how, accurately.

I feel like unless it is a volcano, natural disasters are a pretty slept on plot drivers, and some of them are really cool and unique! Today, I will talk to you about land slides, earthquakes (And earthquake related disasters), and volcanoes.

Landslides: Probably one I see the least in stories, but one that would be incredibly interesting to write into a plot where they believe in curses. Landslides can happen along ocean bluffs, slightly hilly areas, and highly mountainous areas, this means it is something that can happen in most landscapes. But what can trigger a landslide? Mostly all you need to trigger a landslide could be just abnormally large amounts of rain, excessive deforestation (with a little bit of rain), or an earthquake. If you don't want to use deforestation or an earthquake as a catalyst, a really cool indicator that the land is slipping and may be prone to a collapse is J hooked trees.

Geology Of Natural Disasters And How To Write Them Into Your Fictional Universe.

This indicates that there is soil creeping slowly over time, and it may lead to a major landslide.

2. Earthquakes: Probably one of the easiest things to write, earthquakes can happen anywhere, but they are most common in places that are tectonically active areas. There are about three types of environments you can expect earthquakes to be common. The first is just rugged mountains, if your landscape looks like this, you should write in earthquakes. Associated hazards could be landslides, avalanches, and large falling rocks.

Geology Of Natural Disasters And How To Write Them Into Your Fictional Universe.

The next landscape could be a thin mountain range, next to the ocean, very scenic, but very dangerous. Essentially, I am describing a subduction zone environment.

Geology Of Natural Disasters And How To Write Them Into Your Fictional Universe.

Earthquakes in these areas could equal a couple different associated disasters. Scenario one: A very large earthquake happens, and the ocean begins to recede. This is a tsunami, enough said. If you are writing a tsunami though, please, please, do not write it as a large wave, thank you. Also, a common way people are hurt by tsunami's are from them going into the ocean because they don't understand a tsunami is going to happen.

Geology Of Natural Disasters And How To Write Them Into Your Fictional Universe.

Scenario two: A large earthquake happens, your characters are in a valley and suddenly the ground begins to liquify as the ground shakes, once the shaking stops, the ground becomes solid like nothing ever happened, except everything has suddenly sunk into the now hard ground. This is called liquefaction and it typically happens in areas that have loose dirt or lots of saturated soil.

Geology Of Natural Disasters And How To Write Them Into Your Fictional Universe.

Scenario three: There are a lot of small earthquakes, they do not cause a lot of damage, but you begin to notice that one of the isolated mountains has a plume rising. Earthquakes can indicate lava moving underground and the filling of magma chambers.

Geology Of Natural Disasters And How To Write Them Into Your Fictional Universe.

The next environment that can host lots of earthquakes would be regions that have a lot of really deep valleys and small mountain ranges (not cone volcanoes), but overall seems pretty flat.

Geology Of Natural Disasters And How To Write Them Into Your Fictional Universe.

This indicates a transform fault like the San Andreas. If you want to hint at there being earthquakes in the area, you can show fence posts that are suddenly several feet out of line at a dilapidated farm or something similar.

Geology Of Natural Disasters And How To Write Them Into Your Fictional Universe.

(These earthquakes are different because they are cased from sideways movement, not an up-and-down movement this hint can only be used for this environment). Volcanoes would not be found here, but liquefaction and landslides could still occur here.

4. Volcanoes: If you thought earthquakes had a lot of information, volcanoes do too. First you have to ask yourself, what kind of volcano you want to have, what kind of eruption style? So lets break down the kind of eruptions you can have and what their landscapes look like. Hawaiian Shield volcano: This will produce a smooth fast lava, the landscape typically is pretty flat, but there will be small cones and the rocks can have a ropey or jagged texture and the rocks will be almost exclusively black to dark red.

Geology Of Natural Disasters And How To Write Them Into Your Fictional Universe.

Stratovolcanoes: These will be solitary mountains, typically, that look like perfect cones (Picture shown in earthquake section). These will have large ash cloud eruptions and pyroclastic flows, they may have some lava, but typically most damage is done from the pyroclastic flows (think Pompeii). Some hints of these, other than describing the cone features (which can be hidden by other mountains), would be to talk about petrified wood! Trees can get fossilized in the ash and I imagine it would be very strange to find this rock that clearly looks to be a piece of wood, but its a rock. Subcategory- Calderas: Used to be a large stratovolcano, but they erupt so explosively that the entire cone collapses and creates a basin.

Geology Of Natural Disasters And How To Write Them Into Your Fictional Universe.

There are a lot of kinds of volcanoes out there, so forgive me for just putting an infographic and then talking to you about these really rare types of eruptions that I feel like people should know about.

Geology Of Natural Disasters And How To Write Them Into Your Fictional Universe.

Okay lets talk about blue lava (kind of) and black lava

Geology Of Natural Disasters And How To Write Them Into Your Fictional Universe.

You will notice the lava is still red in the middle of this image, during the day these would look like a normal eruption, but at night the burning sulfur would make it appear blue. Some cool features other than this, would be that any water in the area would become very acidic and burn the skin due to sulfuric acid. This would again be really cool if you are trying to describe a 'cursed' land.

Black lava: This happens only in the east African rift I believe, but it is a carbonatite lava, but if you are writing in a rift valley (where the continent is tearing apart to form a new ocean) this might be a cool feature. The lava will cool white and will quickly erode, it makes for a very alien landscape!

Geology Of Natural Disasters And How To Write Them Into Your Fictional Universe.

Anyway as always, this is supposed to be an introductive guide for the basics of writing geology to create cool landscapes/features into dnd or fictional universes, if you are a geologist please understand my oversimplification of tectonics, I didn't want people to run away.

From an actual poet: "In the middle of life,

death comes to take your measurements.

The visit is forgotten and life goes on. But the suit

is being sewn on the sly." - Black Postcards by Tomas Transtromer From my own work(look I saw a comment asking about self-written poems so I thought I'd include my own):

"Within the gaps of my fingers,

Are inkstains ingrained in my skin,

Blemishes of black and blue that never washed off,

Grasping at the strings of fate I cannot see." - Inventory by me

hey reblog this with a piece of your favorite poem, please

Fandom Problem # 4074

The following two opinions can and should coexist:

"No one owes a fanartist/fanfic author/other fancontent creator comments/reblogs."

AND

"If no one leaves positive comments/reblogs on fanart/fanfic/other fancontent, they shouldn't be surprised if the fanartist/fanfic author/other fancontent creator slows their updates or even stops publishing content all together."

And yes, the phrase "positive comments" is important here. If the only comments are flames or demands for more content without otherwise complimenting the fancontent, they'll do the same amount of good as zero comments, if not worse.

Side Note To Fan Fic Authors

Here’s the thing.

I read a lot of scripts.  A lot.  From professionals to aspiring writers to complete newbies.  Features and pilots.  Specs and treatments.

And 8 times out of 10 the fan fic that I’ve read over the last, oh, 15 years is leagues better than this stuff.  It’s more inspired.  It’s more compelling.  It’s genre bending and creative and heartfelt.  It’s well-paced and intense and funny and sexy and meaningful.  It’s smart and thoughtful and good.  It’s novel-quality.  Better than, sometimes.

Rare is the script I don’t want to put down, but how often have we stayed up until 3am to get to the last chapter of a 100k fic? And it’s not even a fan fic author’s day job.  This is what they do on the side.  In their spare time.  For free.

So my point is, fan fic authors, you’re good.  You’re good writers and great storytellers.  I know it doesn’t always feel like it, especially if you’re one of the authors who’s not a BNF and doesn’t get the notes/hits that a few do.  And  because some people still view fic as “not real writing.” You guys know the shit that gets made into movies.  You’re better than that.  So be better than that.  If writing is what you think want to do, then just know you’re already doing it.   You’ve already started.

And you’re more talented than you might think.

Elven Races on Elvaria

This list only contains descriptions and images for the elven races from kingdoms. Elven races not from kingdoms have a separate list which I never finished but have art for.

A lot of the clothing on the art is outdated and before I had a clear culture for many of these races. The ones that aren't outdated are Åskorhaia Elthir, Avianaens, Floernians, Geintori, Jivankira Elthir(see second image), Lustariseans, Maeliron, Voiskanans, Walekrians, Yūregians, and Zodianans. The features of the races remain untouched.

Examples Of Jivankira Elthir Clothing

Despite the Urthalisan refugees having joined the population of Jivankira Elthir during the Age of Shadows and have since become physically indistinguishable, part of Kavathanar known as The Crescent, which is the inner side of the Dinhrang Mountains, still is majority inhabited by descendants of these survivors.

Though they go by the name Jivankira Elthir, they've kept some of the Urthalisan culture to this day and continue to create clothing and buildings in a similar style, but of course with some changes due to influence from native Jivankiran culture and drift over time.

Compared to real world cultures in history, the Urthalisan descendants follow a Le dynasty Vietnamese style, and native Jivankira Either follow a middle Egyptian style.

Universal Tales- Recounting of the Helix, From the Words of Avaas(Altersae)

He of Entropy, of Sentience, and the creator of the Laws of Order. The catalyst to the creation of new Existences from inertia, from the nothingness of Nix.

My kin have long forgotten of Ulym, our forefather whose birth sparked the very first Existence. From it formed the concepts of a flow of time from which would mark the birth and death of universes and ends of cycles, a stabilized space for astral bodies to form upon, alternate universes and countless dimensions where life could be born, and of course, the essence of what is 'nothingness'.

With his birth did Nix first appear as the embodiment of the inertia before Ulym's entropy, then I as the embodiment of a universe branching into countless others, then Tilisnet as the embodiment of a Cycle taking motion, and ending with Seclir as the embodiment of a plane for creation.

When life first began to form in the very first Cycle, he gained twenty one strange 'eyes' that circled behind him, each of them starting closed.

The strange mortals foretold that when the day came where all of these 'eyes' would open, we would be obliterated and our existences reset to the time before even Ulym was born, an event that would come to be known as the Severance Unto Nihility.

We had all assumed it was nonsense, and as the many cycles passed, we simply watched as each 'eye' opened, paying no need and noticing no significant issues out of the norm.

By the ten thousand eight hundred seventh Cycle, though, nineteen 'eyes' had opened and Seclir would be the first to declare that the Existence of that Cycle had become unstable. Tilisnet would also take notice, and I myself saw as the space between universes and dimensions would shift and shatter with increasing frequency.

Ulym himself was becoming increasingly unstable as he began to cause excessive entropy, but he tried to assure us that this would be temporary and the next Cycle would return to how they were in the past.

When the next Cycle was born, it was not normal as we had thought it would be. The various worlds would shatter against each other and the space in between them unfurled and unraveled violently, the instability caused by this rippling across all of the Existence. Time would begin to fold onto itself and trap many lives into unbreakable loops until they went mad, and I bore witness to entire realms collapsing onto each other and universes locked from travel due to the instability causing all laws to disintegrate into utter chaos. Nothingness would bleed into the Existence and undo all the efforts of Tilisnet and Seclir, and neither Nix nor I could do more than observe how the uncontrolled entropy ravaged the living and metaphysical into nonexistence.

Ulym himself had not improved and had trapped himself into one of the locked universes, uttering complete madness as the 'pupils' of the 'eyes' would dart and glare into various dimensions and stare into my very being every time I had glimpsed into the locked universes. The time of the opening of the twentieth 'eye' was nigh, and we could not predict when the twenty first would open and bring forth the Severance Unto Nihility.

Tilisnet, Seclir, Nix, and I could no longer manage the damage uncontrolled entropy caused, and so we had resolved to take action against Ulym directly, something we had never conceived would ever occur.

By the time we had created our plan, more than half of the Existence was destroyed or irreversibly warped into unrecognizability.

Seclir and I would forcefully merge the locked universes and twist the remains of collapsed dimensions to create a 'sprout' that we tasked Tilisnet and Nix to 'plant' at the very start of the first Cycle, and this sprout would be further twisted by Tilisnet to create the beginning of the Helix of Undoing.

This 'seed' would be our final hope before the twentieth eye fully opened, the catalyst to create the direct opposite of the Laws of Order where time flowed backwards among many other strange Laws. This would become the essence of the Helix, where ends would come before beginnings and reality is no longer separate from the imaginary or unfathomable; where death comes before life and all things would be created before a nothingness could be born.

Whatever we could fathom in our Cycles would not apply in this parallel to the Laws of Order, and we pleaded to our very essence that Ulym would not break through the Helix of Undoing.

As many Cycles passed since the sealing of Ulym, the mantle of the concept of Entropy has been passed to myself among my duties as the Watcher, though Seclir has long forgotten why I had assumed this role, and Tilisnet, who is the only other that remembers, has sealed himself away in the in-betweens of the High Realms since his Realm was destroyed.

Nix holds great malice towards us as he believes we had abandoned him, but he too has forgotten Ulym.

It is unlikely that Ulym will ever be unsealed, and by the time the Laws of Order undo themselves in a Cycle far from even my own perception, the Helix of Undoing will have run its course and the 'eyes' of Ulym will be closed once more.

This hope and the Helix are the sole things that grant me the strength to continue my duties...But I fear that when the day comes where the Laws of Order and the Helix of Undoing meet at the Point of creation and undoing, Ulym's and my kin and I's roles will be reversed, and we will be sealed in his steed as we, too, go mad.

May Ulym never again see the light of creation in the Laws of Order.

Elvarian Legends- The Tale of the Brood of Orvalak(Yukiosa)

Long ago in the years after The Fall, a wyrm of great proportions and power dominated the skies of the continent of the ice-lands.

His wings could blot out the light of the sun, and a single swipe of his tail could create long-winding mountains.

He was known as Orvalak, the Blizzard Wyrm.

According to Yukiosan records and the account of the surviving frost wyrm-who was one of the products of this experiment-, which is all there is on how Orvalak came to be, there were once five different physical elementals who had chosen to breed with five different wyrms as a test to see the result of what would happen if the elementals fused with mortal life such as the elves.

The wyrms were from lands where the matching elemental energies and byproducts were dominant, those energies being frost, stellar, fire, earth, and the byproduct being empowered sand, in order to ensure the highest chances of success.

When the wyrms had laid eggs, each in clutches of three, the eggs of the earthen wyrm were deemed to be impure and likely to result in death as an embryo, and so they were destroyed.

Regardless of the first failure, the elementals chose to continue their test, and so the eggs of the sand wyrm were the first to hatch, though the hatchlings were deemed too dangerous to let live, as they proved to be aggressive and highly venomous, and thus the hatchlings were killed.

Two of the eggs of the stellar wyrm then hatched, with the third unable to crack through the egg and suffocating, but from the two eggs, two powerful hybrids emerged, and they were named Sarkath, the Celestial One, and Qilanar, the Black Serpent, who would onwards become the guides of the Zodianans when the two had left the nests.

The flame wyrm's eggs hatched afterwards, but two of the hatchlings died due to malformed organs and the third was wingless.

Intrigued, the elementals chose to let the surviving one live out life on what would one day become Flaernan lands, planning to see how it would develop without contact with them, but unbeknownst to the elementals when they eventually stopped observing it, the hatchling would be day became known as Erebir, the magma worm, and the terror of the flame-lands.

The last to hatch were the eggs of the frost wyrm, with the first two being rather weak and small but alive, and the third being the strongest and abnormally large.

The first two were allowed to roam freely, as they could not cause threats to the mortals, but they were not given names since they were considered failures. However, the third was given the name Orvalak, the Blizzard Wyrm, and it was suspected that before the eggs were laid, Orvalak had absorbed more energies than his siblings or leeched off of them, leading to him being the most powerful one out of the clutch.

However, unlike Sarkath and Qilanar, Orvalak was incapable of speech despite his power being akin to that of the two, if not even greater. Nonetheless, the elementals observed his growth, but upon realizing that Orvalak was becoming stronger and larger than they could control, they attempted to kill him, though they had failed to notice that Orvalak was capable of thought and could observe and process situations with logic despite his lack of an ability to speak.

Orvalak was cunning, and knowing the intentions of the elementals, struck first, absorbing the energies of the elementals and shattering their cores, causing their sentience to fade and thus leading to their deaths.

Orvalak had developed a thirst for elemental energies that could not be sated with only those of the five elementals, and searched for the settling Yukiosans who began to recently began to expand their territory as they explored more of the frost-lands.

He guided the Yukiosans deep into the heart of the frost-lands by using his body, which had grown to gargantuan proportions, to shield the Yukiosans when particularly harsh blizzards occurred.

The Yukiosans interpreted his intentions as good and were thankful to Orvalak for helping them expand their territory, but in truth, he intended to enslave them and force them to supply him a constant flow of energies, as he had observed the Yukiosans to be able to wield frost energies.

When the Yukiosans had built permanent settlements that became cities as centuries passed by, Orvalak continued to watch them and aid them in their endeavors, as he could empower them with the energies he absorbed in the past. Though, the time eventually came when he tired of giving and decided to put his plans into place, and as the Yukiosans could partially interpret his growls and body language, he attempted to ask them for "empowerment" in return for all he had done for the Yukiosans.

Despite many of the Yukiosans wishing to do so, not knowing Orvalak's true intentions, the ruler of the Yukiosans refused to allow it, seeing right through Orvalak.

The ruler attempted to offer artifacts as compensation instead, but Orvalak was unsatisfied, and was frustrated that his plan was starting to fail.

Orvalak then flew to the western edge of the continent of the frost-lands, where he had hid away the eggs of a frost wyrm he had mated with when he was at a smaller size.

The eggs had, by then, hatched, with the hatchlings being as large as he was when he himself hatched.

Quickly, the hatchlings grew in strength and size, and only a decade had passed before he resorted to his backup plan, planning to use fear to force the Yukiosans to fall under his rule so he could feast on the energies he thirsted for.

Orvalak, however, had not remembered about his siblings, but they had remembered him, and one went to warn the Yukiosans of Orvalak's last resort, while the other flew overseas to request for the assistance of Sarkath and Qilanar in killing Orvalak and his brood, for the two nameless siblings had the ability to speak.

When the ruler of the Yukiosans was notified, they assembled an army of warriors, taking care to avoid having any spellcasters join the ranks of the army in order to prevent Orvalak from getting what he wanted.

Two fifths of the army marched towards the edges of the frost-lands to battle the spawn of Orvalak, while the rest, along with the two siblings, Sarkath, and Qilanar, marched towards the west of the continent to face Orvalak himself.

Orvalak's initial reaction was that of shock when he saw the four wyrms and the squadrons of Yukiosans, but he composed himself and quickly flew upwards, opening his large jaws, preparing unleash vast quantities of frost energies, intending to freeze all that was upon the continent into ice.

Seeing this, one of his forgotten siblings flew into the maw of Orvalak while freezing much of her body to be covered in sharp icicles, causing Orvalak to shut his jaws as he attempted to push the frozen wyrm out of his throat, leaving him distracted.

The warriors, Sarkath, and the remaining sibling used Orvalak's moment of distraction as an opportunity to attack, focusing on shredding off as many of Orvalak's scales as possible in order to strike at his vitals, while Qilanar prepared to spray as much of her most potent venom as possible upon Orvalak's exposed flesh.

Orvalak, having finally choked down the frozen wyrm, growled and flew to the edges of the continent to gather his brood, but not before Qilanar was able to strike him with her ebon venom, which slowly ate away at his skin and wings.

Orvalak grew enraged at the sight of the dead and dying wyrms of his brood and turned to face his pursuers and attackers, using his massive body to quickly surround the continent while he could still fly, but eventually he fell, succumbing to the venom, and collapsed with a roar that shook the continent.

The Yukiosans had won, but at the cost of many lives, though they knew that they likely saved many more by killing Orvalak.

The sibling of the wyrm that had sacrificed herself took it upon himself to keep watch for the Yukiosans, and as the corpse of Orvalak rotted into bones, he assembled a gathering of the mages of Yukiosa, freezing the remains of Orvalak and Orvalak's brood into large mountains of ice to ensure that he would never rise ever again.

Thus is the ending of the Tale of the Brood of Orvalak, with all that remains of him and his brood being the great mountains that border the continent of the frost-lands.
