TW- Talking about self harm and self harm scars

I keep seeing fanart of Dazai with self harm scars and I have thoughts. Listen- I don’t have an issue with that. I actually believe Dazai is the kind of character to self harm however, not in the typical sense.

One thing people often forget about self harm is that it come in many forms. Most things can fall under that if done with the intention to inflict harm upon yourself. Drinking, pulling hair, not eating, holding your breath, scratching, taking scolding hot showers, isolation, and so much more can all be considered self harm.

Dazai in particular would have self destructive like those I just listed instead of cutting. Dazai hates pain, that is one thing made extremely clear throughout the show. He will go out of his way to avoid pain unless he sees no other way to. Tearing open your arm with a razor hurts and that’s the effect most people who self harm like that want. Dazai on the other hand would no want that. Like I said he hates pain.

I could go more into detail with my specific headcanons but I won’t because this is meant to be focusing solely on canon.

To sum up, Dazai is the type of character to self harm however, it would be in the none-typical sense.

Headcannons, go!

Every Link experiences different symptoms going through portals.

Sky: beset by visions. They do accurately predict the future or show other times and places, but are often so jumbled and confusing he just gets a killer headache

Four: (this one is borrowed) splits into the colors but not completely. They have to figure out how to drive the body until they can merge back

Time: overwhelmed by the inevitability of time. Feels every second slip by with the subtlety of a gunshot wound. Also gains the ability to rewind time a few seconds and sometimes accidentally loops a few times before getting his bearings. As a result the others think he handles portals the best but he probably has it worst

Twilight: needs constant force of will to keep himself from transferring to the dark world for the first few seconds. Somehow, Time always knows to help him through it when the pull is the strongest…

Wind: filled with overwhelming power. Could obliterate a tree by flicking it if he isn’t careful. Time often helps him through this also

Legend: all of his items activate. All of them. Fortunately the others are usually too busy to notice him literally peeling himself off the ground (painting form)

Hyrule: same as Legend but with abilities. He’s able to suppress them on the better ones, but things do occasionally just get struck with lightning

Warriors: gets a RTS game style HUD for a quick second, but x100. So distracting it gives him headaches and impairs his vision

Wild: remembers things from the past, but not necessarily from his lifetime. He has quite a few memories of being the other Links. Also sees ghosts.

also, the farther they are displaced in time the worse the effects are. Once they went from Sky’s to Wild’s Hyrule in one portal and Time spent a week in a time loop trying to keep everyone from dying.
