To Belong

She was the weird foreign girl, he was the most useless Viking in the history of Berk. Together they were just Leandra and Hiccup. Two best friends who searched for their place in the world. Would their search for it unite or separate them?

Chapter 2
The good thing about having a pregnant stepmother?
The baby makes her tired, so she doesn’t yell at you that much because you nearly lost your life.
The bad thing is that she still wants to forbid you to see your best friend.
Thank the Lord, that her papi understands how important her bond with Hiccup is.
Without him, she would be all alone on the island. The other Viking teens, even if they are a year younger than her, don’t associate with her either.
Oh, they let her heal them, but like with the adults, she was the weird foreigner.
Nothing more.
It had hurt, but one day Leandra decide that if people didn’t like her for her then they weren’t worth her time.
It was wasted energy and with it, she could do more.
Like spending her time with Hiccup who always has liked her.
Anyways, she could still be friends with Hiccup but her parents grounded her. She should stay for the next few days in her room, only getting out for food and when she needed to do her healer job with Gothi.
Nonetheless, to say the second her room door was closed, Leandra strapped her dagger, last year’s Snoggletog/Christmas gift from Hiccup, on her brown belt and made her way over to her window.
With years of practice breaking out, she opened it without a sound and reached for the tree that grow beside it. She gripped the tree branch and hosted herself up to it. Then she put a piece of wood on the window frame so it was closed and wouldn’t make sounds, but she could open it without a problem getting back to her room.
Mindful of her blue dress with her black kirtle she climbed down the tree.
When she was on the ground she made haste to Raven Point.
Knowing Hiccup so good as she did, he was surely already out there searching for the fallen Night Fury.
She wouldn’t leave him alone on his quest. That’s why she took her dagger with her.
If…If they needed to end things.
Leandra hoped not, she didn’t think she had the stomach for it to actually kill something, but if it was Hiccup and her life against the dragon…then she would choose them.
Still, it didn’t make her feel good about herself. Probably because she wasn’t a Viking and doesn’t have killing dragons in her blood.
Her father was actually a merchant before they landed themselves on Berk.
Leandra hears his nasal voice before she sees him: “Ugh, the gods hate me. Some people lose their knife or their mug. No, not me. I manage to lose an entire dragon.”
“Then maybe you could try my god?”, she calls for him.
He turns around and blinks surprised at her.
“Lee, they let you out? No wait for a second, you broke out, right.”, he corrects himself.
“Of course.”, she replies nodding. “I wouldn’t leave you alone with the dragon. Brought my dagger with me too.”
She points at it, while Hiccup grins.
“You are the best friend someone can ask for.”
“Aww shush, best friend till our death even beyond, right partner?”
A crooked smile forms on his lips. “Could be difficult since we have two very different versions of the afterlife.”
“We will find a way, we always do!”
“Yeah if we only could find this dragon.”
Frustrated Hiccup whacks a low-hanging branch. It snaps back at him, hitting him in the face.
“Damn Hic!”, shouts Leandra worried, and checks his eye. “All good?”
“I can still see if you were worried about that.”, he answers her drily.
“Well, you didn’t poke your eye out so I count this as a win.”
That’s when both teenagers see a snapped tree trunk. Their eyes, one pair green, one brown, follow it to a long trench of upturned earth.
“Do you think…”
“…That the Night Fury is this way, yes I do, Lee.”
Together the two teenagers follow it. Hiccup has to help Leandra since in her dress it is difficult to walk on the upturnend earth. This are the moments in life where the young girl thinks it must be nice to be a Viking girl and be allowed to wear Tunics with pants under it or skirts with pants.
She and Hiccup nearly faceplanted a few times.
They see at the same time the downed dragon and formally fall down on the forest ground to hide from it.
“Do you think it is death?”, Leandra whispers to Hiccup.
This would make things easier for them.
The brunette boy checks at the dragon again.
“Lee, I will go near it, you stay here.”, he suggests to her.
“The moment something is happening, I’m coming.”
“Thanks for always having my back.”
The black-haired girl nods and pats his back.
“I got you, bro!”
Careful Hiccup walks over the downed, black dragon, its body and tail tangled in a bola. It really appears dead.
Hiccup approaches, beaming.
“Oh wow. I did it. I did it. This fixes everything. Yes!”, he celebrates. He strikes a victory pose, planting his foot on the fallen Night Fury. “I have brought down this mighty beast!”
Suddenly it shifts!
The boy springs back, terrified.
“Hic!”, hisses Leandra from her hiding place, ready to jump out.
“I-It’s o-okay! Stay!”, he stutters taking out a tiny dagger. The girl deadpans at the thing, the one he made for her is bigger than this little something. “Stay where you are.”
“I hope you know what you do!”
Yeah, Hiccup hopes it too.
He creeps along the length of the weak, wounded dragon, dagger poised to strike. As he reaches the head, Hiccup finds the Night Fury staring coldly at him. He tries to look away, but he's drawn back to its unnerving, unflinching stare.
With the dragon safety tangled in the ropes, Hiccup jabs with his dagger, puffing himself up with false bravado.
“I'm going to kill you, Dragon. I'm gonna cut out your heart and take it to my father. I'm a Viking. I am a VIKING!”, he yells the last part.
Meanwhile, Leandra got her own dagger out and is ready to jump on Hiccup’s side any moment.
This is so nerve-wracking!
The brunette raises the dagger, determined to prove his Viking-ness.
The dragon's labored breathing breaks Hiccup's clenched concentration.
He opens an eye, uncertainty leaking through.
The dragon holds the stare.
Something profound is exchanged.
Finally, the Night Fury closes its eye and lowers its head resigned to its fate.
Leandra swerves she is going to have a heart attack. What is going on? Why won’t Hiccup finish the dragon off?
She answers her own question, at the same time Hiccup lowers the dagger.
Her best friend is a lot of things.
Loyal.
Kind.
Brilliant.
Sarcastic.
But he is not a killer.
Even if it’s a dragon…in the end it’s a living creature and Hiccup hates to hurt other beings.
“Hiccup…”, she whispers quietly.
He stands up, ashamed of himself, and turns away from the dragon.
“I did this…”
His eyes find the eyes of his best friend. He only sees understanding in the warm brown orbs. Leandra will not think less of him, because he couldn’t do it.
Actually, she seems relieved that he didn’t do it. At least he will always have her on his side.
He turns to leave.
Pauses.
And glances back at the dragon, chest heaving.
“Lee.”, he calls out to her. “I’m about to do to something crazy, stay where you are, okay? I don’t want that you get hurt.”
“What are you about to do-HICCUP?!”, the last part she shrieks as she sees how Hiccup starts to cut the robes that hold the dragon.
Oh no, she will not leave him alone.
She leaves her hidey spot and joins him in cutting the robes with her own dagger.
“I told you to stay out of this!”, Hiccup reprimands her.
“Yeah, and I can’t let you do it alone. We both kinda did this to the dragon!”
As the last rope falls free, the Night Fury suddenly pounces!
In a blur, the dragon is upon them, pinning Hiccup and Leandra down, and grazing their necks.
It’s looking like it's about to kill them.
Hiccup is paralyzed. Leandra can’t even think.
The dragon's breath ruffles their hair.
The boy opens his eyes to find the Night Fury's wolf-like stare boring into him.
The exchange is intense and profound.
The dragon draws a deep breath, as though it's about to torch the two teenagers, then lets out an ear-piercing scream instead.
It turns and takes flight, flapping violently through the canopy of trees. It bashes against a nearby mountainside, recovers, and drops out of view some distance away.
“Dios mio!”, huffs Leandra shocked.
They are alive!
Both carefully stand-up and help each other. Holding each other hands tight the two teenagers want to leave, and that’s when Hiccup faints and nearly drags Leandra with him to the ground.
It is also when Leandra can’t hold her tears anymore and she cries beside her fainted friend.
“It’s loco….LOCO!”, the girl cries, still holding the hand of her best friend.
They should be dead, they aren’t dead.
What.
What.
WHAT?!
Leandra doesn’t know for sure how long Hiccup was out, but she checked him carefully after he finally woke up.
Not that he hit his head.
In silence, the two best friends return to their homes.
About what could they talk? How they freed a dragon and it showed mercy on them?
It was unheard of.
It was mindblowing!
Anybody for themselves needed time to work through it.
So they said goodbye to each other with a wave and enter their respective homes.
As she lies in her bed, her parents non then wiser about her little breakout, she can’t help herself putting her hand on her still beating heart.
It is the only proof that she really is alive.
She falls asleep, the green eyes of the Night Furry haunting her.

The next day Leandra is collecting herbs for Gothi, when she sees her best friend with an axe on his way to the Kill Ring.
That…is strange.
“Hiccup!”, she calls out to him. “Yo, Hic, you got a minute?”
He looks relieved to see her and stops by her side.
“Hey, Lee, getting herbs for Gothi like every morning.”
“Yeah, that’s normal for me. What isn’t normal on this morning is you with this axe.”, she remarks drily. “And on his way to the Kill Ring.”
Hiccup makes a face, while she crosses her arms.
“My dad put me into Dragon Training.”, he answers her.
Leandra’s chin meets the floor.
“He finally let you in? Didn’t you always say he was against it?”
“Change his mind, only the gods know why.”
Warily she looks around. None of their neighbors seem to give them any attention.
“Hic, you aren’t a dragon killer.”, she whispers to him. “We both actually prove this yesterday, how the heck do you want to survive Dragon Trainer?!”
The poor boy signs loudly.
“I tried to tell my dad that I didn’t want to join, but you know him. He never listens to me-“
“-And when he does, it's always with this disappointed scowl. Like someone skimped on the meat in his sandwich.”, adds Leandra, having heard this often enough from him. She gives him a sympathetic look. “I know better than to ask, sorry. Just…yesterday was crazy.”
“Who are you telling this.”
Both best friends smile wobbly at each other.
“I better go.”
“I better get these herbs to Gothi.”
“See you, Lee, probably.”
“Till later, Hic, surely.”
The rest of the morning is normal for Leandra. She gets these herbs to Gothi and both make ointments. Then the old wise Viking woman teaches her some new healing techniques, till it’s time for the ointment deliveries.
Practically Leandra wastes her time till lunch by running around the village to go from door to door to give her neighbors some new ointment or even tea which are good for the health.
She is like Berk’s own Red Redding Hood, just without the hood, the wolf, and the grandma.
When it’s finally time can go to the Great Hall for lunch, she sees how Hiccup sneaks into the forest.
For a second she really had to battle with herself since food made her happy and she was hungry like a wolf, but she couldn’t leave Hiccup alone.
Only god knows what crazy thing he is doing again, so she better follow him.
Leandra reaches him as he studies the remnants of the discarded bola. You know the one who hold the Night Furry the other day and they both cut through.
“So...why didn't you?”, mutters her best friend to himself.
“Who, so why didn’t you?”, she repeats.
Not expecting another person Hiccup shrieks like a little girl and turns to her.
“Lee! You scared me!”
“I can see that. So what has your pantys all in a twist?”
He motions for her to follow him. They take the path the Night Furry took when it flew off.
While walking he tells her about what happened at Dragon Training and Gobber’s words who didn’t leave him alone.
A dragon always goes for the kill.
But the Night Furry didn’t kill either of them.
So what was up with that?
That’s why Hiccup is searching for it. Maybe if he sees it again, he can understand it.
“That’s crazy.”, deadpans Leandra. “And I’m also crazy because I actually agree with you and follow you.”
“Maybe it’s an outcast thing.”, Hiccup tries to joke.
“That we lost our marbles, sure, Hic, why not?”
They drop into a rocky crevice and follow it to a cove complete with a pristine spring pool. Both scan the high stone walls then Hiccup notices a single black scale on the ground. He crouches and picks it up, studying it.
“Lee, look.”
The girl puts her hands on her knees and leans forward to look at the scale.
“Well, it was definitely here.”
“I don’t see it.”, responds Hiccup shaking his head. “Well, this was stupid.”
They can’t even look that fast as suddenly, the Night Fury blasts past them. Both teenager recoil and grip the arms of the other.
“Woah!”, can’t Leandra helps it to shout.
The Night Furry struggles to climb the walls. It flaps violently, then peels away to a rough landing. The dragon is clearly trapped.
Leandra and Hiccup let go of each other and watch fascinated by how the dragon tries to leave the cove.
It fails miserably each time.
That’s when Hiccup pulls a leather-bound book from his fur vest and flips past drawings of weapons to a blank page. He sketches the dragon quickly, desperate to record the image.
“Why don't you just...fly away?”, wonders Hiccup.
Leandra pinches her eyes. She asks herself the same. It is then that she notes the problem.
“His tailfin, Hiccup.”, she reveals to her best friend, gripping his shoulder and shaking him a bit. “He misses a part of it!”
Hiccup corrects fast his drawing.
“Is…is this our fault?”, the girl asks feeling bad.
Not only feeling bad, she feels guilty. She has seen how much the dragon is struggling and can’t even catch himself some fish to eat.
They freed it, but it seems doomed anyway.
Before Hiccup can answer her he accidentally drops the charcoal stick. It rolls off of the rock outcropping that hides him from view and bounces into the cove.
The Night Fury raises his head, spotting Hiccup and Leandra.
The dragon and the boy such exchange a profound, unflinching stare that Leandra feels like intruder.
Like she wasn’t meant to be part of this.
It a strange feeling.

Leandra sits at her windowsill looking out the storm which is brewing on Berk.
Rather would she be in the Great Hall with Hiccup eating, but this goes against her grounding. She is only allowed to lunch there since after it she still helps Gothi out.
Oh yeah, Gothi.
Whining she rubs the bump on the back of her head courtesy of Gothi’s Stick. She earned this because she came back to the old Viking woman way past lunchtime.
Finding and watching the Night Furry and getting back to the village had taken some time.
The black-haired girl is just glad that Gothi scolded her for being late, gave her the bump, and wouldn’t say anything to her parents.
The village elder wasn’t someone who snitched. She rather resolved problems alone.
Whatever, she was back home and wished rather be on the side of her best friend.
They had talked a bit before they left to do their daily chores.
Sadly it was nothing really enlightenment.
They knew nothing about Night Furries.
So there was not much to discuss.
Only Hiccup promised he would find a way to search for some more information.
What they would do with it?
No idea…maybe just understand the dragon better?
Leandra signed and stand up.
Nervous she walked around her room.
It didn’t leave her mind that the dragon was hurt because of them.
She may only have become a healer to not die of boredom on Berk, but after a good four years with Gothi she had healer instincts.
And that instincts told her to help to heal the clear wound the dragon had on his missing tailfin.
“I hope I won’t regret it.”. she mumbles to herself.
The girl sits down on her desk and grips her first book with healing plants in it.
If she wanted to heal the dragon, then she needed the right ointment, so better check all her healing books to find the right plants.
It was going to be a long night.

You are a young mermaid, not ready for your adult responsibility when you find a secret underwater tunnel that leads to a secret cove. You couldn’t imagine how your life was going to change because of it. HiccupXMermaid!Reader

Happy Valentine’s day my lovely reader!
I hope you enjoy my Valentine’s gift to you all! :D
MINOR’S DON’T INTERACT!

Chapter 6: Only you, no one else
You are cuddled up to Toothless, the dragon nuzzling your cheek, while you scratch him under his snout.
Together you are waiting for Hiccup. It’s high time he comes from Dragon Training.
You wonder what is making him late.
“I will ask him, Toothless.”, you whisper to him like it’s a secret. “I will ask him to be my Mate and start a family.”
Practically, you want to ask in the mermaid way for Hiccup’s hand in marriage. Some land dwellers would say it’s way too earlier, but for your kind, it was only natural to go the whole way when you found your Life Mate.
It was incredible you found what your parents have.
Even with a human!
Who would have thought?
Toothless seems to like the idea because he gives you a big dragon smooch and purrs.
“You will be the best uncle to our children, I just know, Toothless.”, you tell him and give him a kiss on his snout.
The idea of little you’s and little Hiccup’s made Toothless purr even more. Of course, he would love your guys hatchlings like there were his own. He loved both of you so much.
That’s when you hear two voices discussing with each other.
One is Hiccup’s, and the second one is female.
“AAAAUUGGGHHH! Why would you do that?!”
“That's for the lies.”
It seems like the female hit Hiccup with something. You stand up and Toothless is right beside you. You can feel how your canines become sharper, hearing your mate in distress.
“And THAT'S for everything else.”
Hiccup yelps and both you and Toothless start to growl. You feel how your nails get longer and sharper.
Now you see the intruder.
It’s a young blond Viking woman with an axe.
She sees you two now too, but Toothless is the first to pounce toward her, snarling.
“Oh man.”, whines Hiccup who manages to stand up.
He doesn’t stay long up because the intruder dives onto Hiccup.
“Get down! Run! Run!”, she commandes.
The young woman pulls her axe, ready to take on Toothless.
“No!”. yells Hiccup.
That’s when you step in.
The water answers your command.
With a waterwhip, you hit away the axe out of the girl’s hand and hold then her hand in place, while you stop Toothless in his tracks with a stream that wraps around his body.
You hold your bending form and walk up to Toothless’s side.
You give the girl, who looks at you with fear, a cold glare and show your grown canines.
“What do you want from my mate and my friend, human!”, you hiss acid.
Even Hiccup seems to be taken back.
“You never told me you can do that with water.”, he blinks confused.
“It never came up.”
“What is going on?”, shrieks the intruder and tries to get her hand out of your water hold. It not working. “Who is this water witch?!”
“Mermaid!”, you correct angrily.
“Astrid.”, Hiccup turns so that he is between your and Toothless side and this Astrid sides. “You scared them, it’s okay.”
“I scarred them?! Your water I mean your mermaid is holding me hostage with water!”, she yells shocked.
Hiccup turns to you: “[Y/N], pearl, please let her go.”
You want to melt at the pet name, but you stay in your bending form.
“No, I don’t trust her!”
“She is a friend!”
You and Toothless snort at the same time. Yeah right!
“Please.”, begs Hiccp and gives you puppy dog eyes.
Damn you can’t resist them.
With a sign, you stop your bending, and the water splashes on the ground. Hiccup comes towards you two and puts a calming hand on Toothless’s neck, while he wraps his other arm around your waist.
You snuggle up to your mate and show this Astrid again your canines as she stares at you three in disbelief.
“Who are they?!”, she wants to know from Hiccup.
“Astrid, [Y/N] and Toothless. [Y/N] and Toothless, Astrid.”, he introduces you all to each other.
Toothless growls and you hiss at her.
You are so not charmed to meet her.
Astrid backs away, eyeing you, Hiccup, and Toothless together with pure disgust. She turns and runs for the village.
“We're dead.”, deadpans Hiccup.
Satisfied with Astrid's departure, Toothless and you turn away.
“Where do you think you're going?”, Hiccup wants to know.

You can’t believe Hiccup talked you and Toothless into it. You two are riding and flying with Toothless in search of this stupid Astrid.
You couldn’t care less but your mate insisted that it was important that the blond-haired bimbo didn’t reach his village and blab all about you and Toothless.
You rather would run away with Hiccup and Toothless!
Why did you agree to this again?
Right, because you loved Hiccup and trusted his judgment.
But one stupid move from the bimbo and you would decapitate her with a waterwhip.
No regrets on your side.
Your trio finally found her and Toothless snatched her up by one of her arms.
The blond-haired bimbo screams in fear: “Oh great Odin's ghost, this is it!”
You fly Astrid to the top of a towering pine. It bows and creaks under your combined weight as Astrid dangles a hundred feet in the air.
“Hiccup! Get me down from here!”, demanded Astrid from him.
You growl at her in a warning. She seems to shrink under your piercing glare.
Hiccup pats one of your hands on his side to calm you down. He is pretty damn sure that given the chance you would murder Astrid without regret.
You have told him in the days you passed together how protective mermaids could get for their mates.
He didn’t want you to murder someone for him. It made him just sick thinking about it.
“You have to give me a chance to explain.”, he implores Astrid.
“I'm not listening to ANYTHING you have to say!”
“Watch it, bimbo!”, you warn her hissing, canines poking out from your mouth.
It makes her shrink even more into herself. Someone isn’t used to getting intimidated by someone much more powerful. This gives you a certain glee.
“Pearl, please.”, whisper Hiccup to you, before a turns his words back to Astrid: “Then I won't speak. Just let me show you.”
Hiccup extends a hand.
“Please, Astrid.”
She eyes him, you and the dragon, then the ground far, far below.
After a moment, she swats Hiccup's outstretched hand away and reluctantly climbs over the pedal, lines, and harness. She settles behind Hiccup and you, avoiding as much contact as possible.
Yeah, you don’t really want her hands on you. You can’t guarantee that you wouldn’t bite them off. This woman lets your feral side out.
“Now get me down.”, she says to Hiccup.
“Toothless? Down. Gently.”
You and Toothless share a glance and nod to each other. You would give the bimbo a lesson she wouldn’t forget.
The dragon spreads his wings slowly. With a whop, they fill with the updraft. Toothless releases the tree tucks in his legs, and hovers in place.
“See? Nothing to be afraid of.”
Hiccup spoke to soon, Toothless suddenly launches straight upward. Astrid screams and you grin. The acceleration is tremendous. Every downbeat buck the saddle, heaving you into the sky, doubling your speed like a rocket.
Astrid is thrown backward. She screams more and hugs you for dear life, squeezing the breath out of you.
You fight the instinct to bite her hands off.
“Toothless! What is wrong with you?! Bad dragon!”, scolds Hiccup him. “He's not usually like this. Oh no...!”
Toothless rolls and plummets toward the coastline far below. You laugh happily at Astrid’s screams, Toothless is doing an awesome job. He rockets over the ocean waves, deliberately dipping you all in the froth.
“Toothless, what are you doing?! We need her to like us! [Y/N], say something to him!”, begs you Hiccup for help to get control over the dragon.
“Toothless, do the spin!”, you yell cheerfully.
He does as you tell him.
“Thanks for nothing you two, you are a great help!”, groans Hiccup defeated.
“Okay! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!”, shrieks Astrid regretfully. “Just get me off of this thing.”
Now that’s more you like it.
You give Toothless side a pet and you level off and head up into the clouds.
Astrid opens her eyes again and looks out over a world she'd never dreamed of. She reaches out and touches clouds, pierces columns ablaze in golden hues, and floats over a vast, alien skyscape.
You reach also a hand out, bending the water out of the clouds and letting the waterdrops fly in a beautiful arc over your group.
You hear how Astrid gasps in wonder.
It’s beautiful how the light reflects in rainbow colors in the water drops.
She grins, despite herself.
Toothless rises above a blanket of clouds and levels off under a starry sky. You emerge from a blanket of clouds under the dancing Northern Lights, shimmering in ribbons across the vast sky.
Below you, Berk's torches flicker in the inky darkness. The new perspective is breathtaking.
Toothless climbs past Berk's tallest peaks and heads out over open water, leaving the village lights behind you.
“All right, I admit it.”, breaks Astrid the silence over your group. “This is pretty cool. It's... amazing. He's amazing.”
Carefully she reaches down and pats Toothless' side.
“And you are pretty cool. Never knew mermaids could do such things.”, tells you Astrid fascinated.
Well, maybe she isn’t such a bimbo.
Even just a little bit.
You thank her simply.
“So what now?”, turn Astrid the word to Hiccup.
Yeah, you are wondering this too.
Hiccup groans.
“Hiccup, your final exam is tomorrow.”, she reminds him. “You know you're going to have to kill...a dragon.”
“That’s such a stupid and disgusting rite of age!”, you add angrily.
“Don't remind me, guys.”
A strange, unearthly din approaches. Toothless ear plates suddenly stand on end. Panicked, he abruptly dives, dipping into cloud cover.
“Toothless! What's happening? What is it?”, Hiccup asks him confused.
Meanwhile, you rub one of your ears. Something is making a strange sound and it vibrates in your head. Autsch.
“You all right?”, ask you, Astrid.
You can’t answer her since Toothless actually barks at you all in a way that clearly says to stay quiet.
Suddenly, out of the dense cloud, a Monstrous Nightmare emerges.
“Get down!”, whisper-shouts Hiccup at you girls.
Hiccup, you and Astrid duck.
The Nightmare calls out. A Zippleback appears on the other side of Toothless, boxing him in.
“What's going on?”, wonders Astrid.
“I don't know.”, admins Hiccup.
“You guys don’t hear it? There is a strange sound in the air. I can’t make it out what it is.”, you explain to them.
“Toothless. You've got to get us out of here, bud.”, declares the young man.
Yet the Night Furry just hisses at him.
Other dragons, previously invisible in the thick clouds, appear all around you. Hundreds of them, all carrying fish and game in their talons.
“It looks like they're hauling in their kill.”, whispers Hiccup.
The Zippleback eyes you ravenously.
“What does that make us?”, wants the blond-haired woman to know.
No one has an answer for her.
The dragons bank and dive in formation, plummeting through the thickening fog and weaving between towering, craggy sea stacks. They emerge at the base of a massive volcanic caldera, glowing with rivulets of lava. The flock of dragons fall into rank, funneling through a crack, and zipping through a winding tunnel.
It gives way to a vast, steamy inner chamber, tiered with pocky shelves. Dragons of all breeds lay about, nested in hordes.
The arriving dragons fly in, dropping the fish and game into a central pit, glowing red and shrouded in mist.
“It’s the Dragon Nest!”, you realize shocked.
So here live your dragon friends. There exist nicer places than a volcano. Why would they live here?
“What my dad wouldn't give to find this.”, signs Hiccup.
Toothless peels away from the procession, landing on a small shadowy shelf to keep a low profile. Hiccup, you and Astrid peek around, taking in the busy hive of sorts.
You watch on as the food continues to be dropped into the pit.
“It's satisfying to know that all of our food has been dumped down a hole.”, remarks Hiccup dry.
“They're not eating any of it.”, notes Astrid.
“I have a bad feeling about this. A really, really bad one.”, you share and bite your lips.
Now that you are in the Dragon Nest you can pit-point where the strange sounds come from.
It comes from the pit.
This couldn’t mean anything good.
And you would be right as a Gronkel spits a little fish into the pit and get’s rewarded by getting eaten by the biggest dragon you ever saw!
Your mermaid instincts formally scream to run and never return.
“By the seven seas!”
“What is that?”, adds Astrid terrified.
The monstrous beast sniffs the air, seemingly aware of you. It nears the ledge where Toothless is hiding and roars.
Several dragons take flight in fear.
“Alright buddy, we gotta get out of here. Now!”, commands Hiccup to Toothless.
Toothless listens and takes flight, barely evading the monster's snapping jaws.
The behemoth dragon lunges for you, snatching a Zippleback out of the air instead.
Your group disappears into the winged exodus as thousands of dragons flee the caldera in fear.

You are still reeling from the revelation of this giant ass dragon when you four arrive at the cove.
Astrid is talking yours and Hiccups ears off: “No, no, it totally makes sense. It's like a giant beehive. They're the workers... and that's their queen. It controls them.”
You touch down at the sandy ground and Astrid doesn’t waste time jumping down from Toothless.
“Let's find your dad.”, say Astrid to Hiccup, ready to return to their village.
Hiccup helps you down from Toothless since you wear a long dress and tucks you close to his side. Shaking you embrace him.
That giant dragon would haunt your dreams you were sure.
“No, no! Not yet. They'll kill Toothless.”, reminds Hiccup Astrid. “Astrid, we have to think this through carefully.”
Saying Astrid is astonished is an understatement. She gaps at you two. “Hiccup, we just discovered the dragons' nest the thing we've been after since Vikings first sailed here. And you want to keep it a secret? To protect your pet dragon? Are you serious?”
“Yes.”, Hiccup and you say as one resolute.
Astrid's taken aback.
“Okay. Then what do we do?”
“Just give me until tomorrow. I'll figure something out.”
“Okay.”
Then Astrid punches you and Hiccup in the arm.
“That's for kidnapping me.”, she tells you two.
You raise an eyebrow at her, while Hiccup looks at Toothless who snorts dismissively.
Next Astrid gives you and Hiccup a short hug.
“That's for, everything else.”
With that, she leaves.
“I don’t get this girl.”, you say to Hiccup. “Is that normal for a Viking?”
He wraps his arm around your shoulder and hugs you to himself. His head is put over yours and you hug him back.
“To be true I don’t get it either, pearl.”
You sign together.
Toothless comes over and joins your hug. You pet the Night Furry.
“Love, stay here tonight. We can think about something together to protect Toothless.”, you plea to him.
You can’t bear right now the thought to be away from your mate.
“You know what, this sounds good. I don’t wanna leave either of you right now.”
Toothless purrs, while you smile.
So a while later you and Hiccup lay under the bear fur he gifted you in the little cave you made your sleeping place.
Strangely Toothless didn’t join you guys and decided to sleep upside down like a bat on a tree.
Well, it would give you privacy to talk with Hiccup about other topics than how to save Toothless from the other Vikings.
Hiccup’s plan right now was to show the village that dragons were friendly while he should kill the Monstrous Nightmare in the Kill Ring.
It wasn’t the best plan, but the only plan were Toothless wouldn’t be exposed to the village.
You snuggled up closer to your mate, while Hiccup played with your hair.
It was a comforting and so domestic feeling.
You wanted to experience this for the rest of your life.
No time like the present, before all this with Astrid and the big bad dragon happened you wanted to ask him something important.
“Hiccup?”
“Mmh?”
“Do you want to be my life mate?”
He formerly turned into a statue and stopped playing with your hair.
You put your chin on his chest to look him in the face. He was blushing red and gaping.
“Hiccup, love?”
“D-Did d-did you just asked me in your mermaid way to marry you?!”, he stutters shocked in disbelief.
You nodded.
“Yes, I did.”
“W-Wait you mean also y-you w-want-“
“Your children? Yes, indeed I want that.”
Your mate turned so red you were worried for a second he would faint.
But he said in a tiny fragile voice: “A-Are y-you s-sure you want me? Like forever? W-What if you meet a nice merman and want him instant? Not that I would blame you, I’m just a hiccup.”
This broke your heart. Who made him believe he wasn’t worthy of love?
You would show him.
So you sat up and swung a leg over his waist. His eyes got big like a pufferfish.
He stutters your name.
“I love you, Hiccup.”, you purred softly. You touched your necklace. “I think, I loved you even when we were kids. That’s why I couldn’t decide which merman from my coven I wanted as a mate. I know this now.”
“Huh, what do you mean by that?”
You smiled and took off your necklace to give it to him.
“This was once a bracelet.”, you explained to him. “When I was a little girl I once visited Berk with my parents. It was a big festival. There I meet a shy, sweet, and intelligent land dweller boy who showed me his home, played games with me, and made me laugh till I couldn’t breathe anymore. As a goodbye gift, he gave me a bracelet he had made for me, while I wasn’t looking. I never asked for his name but…you both have the same green eyes. The same crooked smile. The same big heart. You are my first and last love, Hiccup, I’m sure. So….I’m yours too?”
You waited nervously for his answer. After spending so much time together you were pretty sure that Hiccup and your first land dweller friend were one in the same.
You just hoped he felt the same.
Hiccup played with the bracelet, seeming deep in thoughts, till he said: “I…I always thought that day…that I made it up in my mind. That I just dreamed that I found a friend…who liked me for me…but…you look like the little girl…the one I made this bracelet for…”
He looked up at you, tears were twinkling in his eyes.
“You weren’t a dream…you are real.”
You put your hands on his cheek and whipped away the falling tears.
“I’m real Hiccup. I’m not a fairytale. I love you, only you and no one else, I promise, for infinity. We can even get married in your land dweller way, I just want to be at your side and love you and love the children we will have together.”
The young man made a gasping sound, like he couldn’t believe someone could love him this much.
Still, he leaned up and gave you a quick peck.
“I love you too, maybe it’s crazy after a few weeks with each other, but I don’t want I live without you anymore.”, he told you smiling, even if he still cried. “You were the first person to accept me, you came back to me, you gave me your friendship and your heart…Yes, I want to be your life mate.”
“And I want to be your wife.”
You both meet in a passionate kiss which made you both moan out loud.
It was like fire.
Burning you from the inside and outside.
Only getting better, the more you kissed, the more you touched.
But at the same time, it fawned the flames.
You couldn’t take it anymore and stripped down your dress and undergarments.
You helped Hiccup out of his clothes and pants.
Kissing and touching every new part of him.
Worshipping him in the way he deserved.
This was your mate, your heart and soul, no one would take him away from you.
You throw your head back, enjoying Hiccups strong and deep trusts. One of his hands is on your hip the other goes to your cheek caressing it.
He closes his eyes in pleasure and moans. You shiver and kiss his hand, impaling yourself on his thick hard cock. Over and over again.
Soon Hiccup reaches his limit and comes.
He yells your name into the heavens and you feel his seed entering you, warming your womb.
You purr at the feeling.
You are still not ready to orgasm but Hiccup rubs frantically your clit to help you to get over the edge.
He swerves it’s the most beautiful thing in all the world to see you coming apart.
With a loud keen, you come and feel your own liquid splashing down on your joined parts.
It’s messy and sticky, but so damn hot.
Tired you collapse on top of Hiccup and you two share loving kisses in the afterglow.
For merpeople, you are married now and you couldn’t be happier.
Whatever would bring tomorrow…you would face it together.

I can’t believe I finally wrote smut.
Somehow.
Kinda.
I hope you all enjoyed it.
If not I’m sorry, I’m new at this.
Happy Valentinesday again my loves!

To Belong

She was the weird foreign girl, he was the most useless Viking in the history of Berk. Together they were just Leandra and Hiccup. Two best friends who searched for their place in the world. Would their search for it unite or separate them?

Chapter 1
Transfixed a young maiden with long wavy black hair stared out the window. She was in her room and could hear with clarity the battle cries of her neighbors and the screams of the dragons.
Just a normal night on Berk.
Was it absurd that she envies the dragons? Most people saw them as nuisances, but she wanted to fly like them.
Just away from Berk.
Away from a life she didn’t choose but had to live it. She sighed and put a bit of hair behind her ear.
Wallow in her misery wouldn’t help anyone, she needed to get out and do her job.
Gothi was counting on her.
It just was one of these nights where anything seemed too much.
She wonders sometimes if her best friend felt this hole in his chest too. He may be a born Viking, yet it was clear that in the eyes of the people of Berk and his own father, he was no Viking material.
They put him in the same spot as her the “weird foreign girl”.
A knock is heard on her room door and her stepmother, Sigrùn Jonnson, enters her sanctuary from the world.
Under her big belly with her future half-sibling in it, even the proud Viking woman has to gasp for air.
“You should rest.”, she says to her stepmother, before she can talk.
“And you should be out helping Gothi with the wounded, Leandra.”, reminds her Sigrùn.
“I was on my way.”
Not believing it the red-haired woman raises one eyebrow.
“Really? It looks more like you are daydreaming. I swerve to Odin Stoick’s boy has you infected with it.”
Angry Leandra stands up from her windowsill and grips her pouch, with her ointments and healing herbs in it, slinging it over her shoulder.
“We don’t talk about Hiccup! We only seem always to fight when he comes up and frankly it’s my free right to be friends with whom I want to be, comprender.”, she hisses.
Sigrùr raises her hands in a way to pacify her stepdaughter.
“All right, all right. I won’t say a thing. I will go back to bed, your brother is confusing my stomach for a ball. Don’t forget to greet your father.”
With that Sigrùr waddles away.
“It could be a girl.”, Leandra grumbles after her.
She doesn’t know if she was heard, but it was important to her to say this. Leandra knows how much her parents want a perfect Viking boy and not another little Spanish senorita like her from her father’s first marriage.
It all just sucks.
The black-haired girl goes down the stairs and sees her father stirring the fire in their fireplace.
“Papi.”, she calls over to him, already reaching for the door. “I’m off to help Gothi.”
“Hasta luego mi amor! And be careful out there.”
“Si!”
With that, she steps out and has to dodge already a Gronkel.
Ah yes, nothing better to start her work day!

“I’m sorry, really!”, Leandra whines at the old Viking woman and can barely dodge her walking stick.
Gothi shakes her head, scribbling down on the ground.
“That’s a bit mean, I know I should be here earlier, I was just distracted.”
More scribbles.
“No, Hiccup, hasn’t anything to do with it. It’s just one of these days.”
The old woman gives her a pitiful look and writes down.
“Yeah, you are right. It’s tough for me to find my place here.”, the black-haired girl signs. “But I like helping you, Gothi.”
She gets just a nod as answers and Gothi points out at the fighting Vikings.
“Yes, I will see if someone needs healing.”
With that Leandra runs into the fry, careful not to crash into a dragon, looking for Vikings who need healing and ones she needs to send to Gothi.
She may be "the weird foreigner", but her dear neighbors respect and trust in the healing wisdom she learned from Gothi.
The black-haired girl is handing out burn ointment to a few of the men when she sees Mister Svenson holding his right arm tight to his chest.
A quick check on it’s clear that it is broken.
“Mister Svenson, please wait here for me. I will stabilize the arm before you can go to Gothi.”, she asks him.
“All right, lass.”
With that, she runs to the blacksmith stall and calls out: “Gobber, Hiccup, I need some iron poles!”
It’s Gobber who greets her, hammering away on an anvil.
“Evening lass, full out on helping the men I see.”
She grins and waves at him. Leandra always liked Gobber. Since she can remember he had treated her just like a normal child, never making her feel like an outcast on Berk.
Speaking of outcasted, there was the second one of Berk and her dearest and best friend.
Hiccup has the poles she asked for in his hands, handing them to her.
“Here you are, Lee.”
“Thanks, Hic!”
The girl with black wavy hair and tan is my only and best friend Leandra. She is a year older than me and comes originally from a place called Spain. But since her father and she stranded on Berk 10 years ago and her dad fell in love with one of the village women they live here. She is like me on outcast since she isn’t a Viking, but she manages to become our village elder apprentice. Once I asked her if she wanted to be a healer in the future and she just told me she is doing this job so she doesn’t die of boredom. Yeah, Lee, isn’t the biggest fan of Berk. I hear her often mumbling about how she wants to go back to Spain to her grandmother.
“All good with you?”, Leandra asks her best friend.
She knows how much he wants to be out there like the other teenagers and help out the grown-ups, but since he is so accident-prone he was basically banished into the blacksmith stall.
“Yeah, all good.”, he answers her.
“And about your little, you know.”, she pointedly looks in the direction of his new invention.
He gives her a small grin.
“Seems to be ready.”
Leandra nods.
“All right, if I get the chance I will join you in your plan, but to be on the save side, good luck, Hic.”
“Thanks, Lee!”
With a last wave, Leandra makes her way to Mister Svenson.

It’s really dumb luck that Leandra is near the blacksmith stall when she sees Hiccup racing out of it with his invention.
She was currently handing out again burnt ointment and nearly throws it in the face of Mrs. Ingerson.
“Here you go. Gotta go to Gothi, I’m all out!”, she lies and ignores the calls for her.
Her best friend needs her moral support!
She finds him on a cliff overlooking the smoking catapult, thanks to the dragon Hiccup so much wants to kill.
“Hiccup, I’m here!”
He turns happily smiling at her.
“Perfect, timing, Lee. Help me set it up?”
“You need to ask?”
Together the two teenagers crank several levers, unfolding and then cocking the bowed arms of his contraption. He drops a bola onto a chamber and then pivots the weapon on a gimbal head toward the dark sky.
Leandra steps back and listens, just like Hiccup for the familiar screech of the Night Furry, while she has her hands in a prayer position.
She hopes the Lord has mercy on Hiccp and gives him this change.
Hiccup’s eye is pressed to the scope, hand poised on the trigger.
They hear the Night Fury approaching and Hiccup turns his aim to the defense tower.
It closes in for the final strike, completely camouflaged in the night.
“Come on. Give me something to shoot at, give me something to shoot at.”, mutters Hiccup to himself.
Leandra, still praying, mutters too: “Please my Lord, he needs it, please let him shoot it down!”
Boom! The tower topples. The blast of fire illuminates the dragon for a split second.
Hiccup pulls the trigger.
The flexed arms snap forward, springing the weapon off the ground. The bola disappears into the sky, followed by a whack and a screech.
Even if she prayed for it, Leandra can’t help it and her chin meets the floor.
Hiccup did it!
“Hic! You did it!”, she yells happily and hugs him from behind.
He is like a statue, till he realizes what he did.
“Oh I hit it! Yes, I hit it!”, he celebrates.
The boy turns around to hug his best friend better and the two jump around like two crazy kangaroos.
“Wuhu!”, shouts Leandra, so happy for Hiccup.
At least one of them would finally fit in!
“Did anybody see that?”, ask Hiccup exited.
It’s short-lived since when they turn around again the teenagers see a huge Monstrous Nightmare slithering up over the lip of the cliff.
“Except for you.”, Hiccup can’t help himself and deadpans at the dragon.
The black-haired girl grips his hands and drags him with her.
“Less talking, more running!”
“I know, I was just-“
“Hic, shut it and move these legs of yours!”
Both teens scream like children running through the Plaza, with the Nightmare fast on their heels.
Vikings scatter as Hiccup and Leandra dodge a near-fatal blast. The Nightmare's sticky, Napalm-like fire splashes up onto buildings, setting them alight.
“I swerve to Holy Mary, Hiccup, if we survive this, I’m going to kick your ass!”, shrieks Leandra.
“What did I do?! I didn’t tell the dragon to follow us!”
The boy makes them duck behind the last standing brazier, the only shelter available.
The Nightmare blasts it, spraying fire all around him.
The two best friends hug each other tight and Hiccup can hear how Leandra is praying to her god, eyes closed and shaking. He never wanted to risk his best friend’s life only to get the respect of his father and clan.
This so was not the plan!
But now it seemed that they both are toast.
With a gulp, Hiccup peers around the smoldering post. No sign of the Nightmare.
He turns back to find it leering at him, blocking their escape.
It takes a deep breath.
The boy turns himself and Leandra so around that his back is to the Nightmare and her to the brazier.
It was highly unlikely that they would survive the blast of the dragon, but if his maneuver could protect Lee even just a little bit, he would die happier.
Suddenly, Stoick leaps between them, tackling the Nightmare to the ground. They tumble and wrestle, resuming their earlier fight. The Nightmare tries to toast him, but only coughs up smoke.
“You're all out.”, informs Stoick the dragon.
He smashes the Nightmare repeatedly in the face, driving it away. It takes to the air and disappears.
Winded, Stoick turns to Hiccup and Leandra.
The girl has tear streaks going down her tan face, gripping the tunic of his son tight, while Hiccup hugs her too and pets her head to calm her down.
“Gracias a Dios!”, mumbles the girl relieved.
Stoick saved them from an early death!
That’s when the burnt brazier pole collapses, sending the massive iron basket crashing. It bounces down the hill, destroying as it goes and scattering the Vikings who were holding down the netted Nadders. The freed dragons escape with several sheep in tow.
Both Leandra and Hiccup made faces during the whole scene. It was kind of their fault.
“Sorry, dad.”
“I’m sorry, Mister Stoick.”
The escaped Nadders fly past with sheep in their clutches.
The raid is over.
The dragons have clearly won.
The murmuring crowd eyes Stoick, awaiting his response.
“Okay, but I hit a Night Fury.”, says Hiccup sheepish.
For a moment Stoick ignores his son to look at the young maiden beside him. The girl is still shaking and didn’t stop crying.
He gives her a little head pat and calls out to her father: “Gustavo, get your daughter.”
Leandra can’t even look that fast, as her papi takes her in his arms and Stoick grips Hiccup by the back scruff of his collar and hauls him away, fuming with embarrassment.
The girl knows what is going to happen and wants to step out of the embrace of her father, but he hugs her tighter.
“No mi amor you stay put, I nearly lost you, let your papi hold you.”
“B-But-“
“No, but!”
Meanwhile, Hiccup tries to talk to his father: “It's not like the last few times, Dad. I mean I really actually hit it. You guys were busy and I had a very clear shot. It went down, just off Raven Point. Let's get a search party out there, before it—“
“STOP! Just....stop.”, say’s Stoick.
He releases Hiccup. Everyone goes silent, staring expectantly. Leandra bites her lips. This will not end well for her best friend.
“Every time you step outside, disaster follows.”, Stoick nearly growls to his son. “Can you not see that I have bigger problems? Winter's almost here and I have an entire village to feed!”
Hiccup looks around. All eyes are upon him. Only Leandra’s eyes are friendly and worried for him. She is still crying.
Damn, he hates to make her cry.
Maybe that’s why he jokingly says: “Between you and me, the village could do with a little less feeding, don't ya think?”
A few rotund Vikings stir self-consciously. The black-haired girl can’t help to crack a smile.
“This isn't a joke, Hiccup! Why can't you follow the simplest orders?”
“Mister Stoick.”, calls Leandra out and sniffs her last tears away. “Please, Hiccup didn’t lie. I was with him when he shout down the Night Furry.”
“You are a good lass, Leandra, but this is between me and my son.”, reprimand her the chief.
Before she can say more her father commands practically: “Suficiente Leandra!”
So she shuts up and looks at the ground frowning.
“I can't stop myself.”, speaks Hiccup up and hopes so to get the nasty looks away from Leandra. She didn’t deserve them. She just helped him and was now probably scarred for life. “I see a dragon and I have to just... kill it, you know? It's who I am, Dad.”
“You are many things, Hiccup. But a dragon killer is not one of them.”
Autsch, this hurts!
Leandra looks at her best friend sad, while the other Vikings agree with Stoick.
“Get back to the house.”, wants Stoick from his son.
Gobber comes up and gives Hiccup a little slap on the back of his head.
“Make sure he gets there.”, Stoick tells Gobber. “I have his mess to clean up.”
Leandra wants to follow them, but her papi takes hold of her hand and leads them to their house.
“That was enough excitement for a night, young lady. We are going home!”
The black-haired maiden signs.
Oh, she will hear on earful when Sigrùr hears about all this.
Yeah!

You are a young mermaid, not ready for your adult responsibility when you find a secret underwater tunnel that leads to a secret cove. You couldn’t imagine how your life was going to change because of it. HiccupXMermaid!Reader

This is my first reader insert where I also will write probably smut. I’m excited and also scared. That’s why I made the age of the characters like in Race to the Edge also 18 so no trouble. This story starts with the first movie, but like I said Hiccup and the gang are 18. I think it’s actually more logical that young adults fight against freacking dragons than 16-year-olds!
Also, the Mermaid-Reader will be my own interpretation of mermaids, I took some aspects from different sources and put them in one. ^^
I hope you will like it and leave some comments .3.
They make me so happy!

Chapter 1: The cove
It was so… tranquil.
Yes, that was the right word.
It was so tranquil.
Cozy.
Protected from prying eyes.
You looked around the cove. The trees, the stone formations.
It was like a little sanctuary.
Who would have thought that the underwater tunnel you have found today would lead you to this? You were deep in the forest which belonged to the land-dwellers.
Your [F/C] fishtail hit the water surface playfully.
This…was great.
A place just for you.
Away from your coven, who demand that you finally found someone to have children with.
You were 18 and it was high time you born a new generation. Like some of your friends already did. Just…non of the mermen in your coven had caught your eye.
You didn’t know yourself why you just couldn’t settle with someone. For what where you searching?
Signing you swam around the pool of the coven and then decide to sit on land, with half your fishtail in the water.
You hugged yourself, listing to the sounds of the birds chirping.
Yes, maybe you could live here alone for a while. Till you felt ready to try again with your suitors.
It was decided.
You would do this.
You needed a break and you would get it.
Smiling, you concreted, till your fishtail turned into human legs.
Careful you stood up.
It was always a weird feeling having legs.
You looked at yourself in the reflection of the water.
If a human would see you they surely would get a heart attack, since you were nude, but for your kind clothes were useless.
The only time you recalled wearing clothes was when your parents once brought you to a festival of the land-dwellers when you were young.
The land-dwellers didn’t know how often mermaids were under them since no one knew that the merfolk had this kind of power to switch between legs and fishtails.
This festival was one of your most precious memories.
It was held on this island and a lot of land-dwellers from different parts of the region came here to celebrate with the inhabitants.
The light, the food, the singing, and the dancing.
How amazing it had been!
But the most amazing thing was the little boy you had met.
He was tiny, with eyes so green like the grass and a mop of brown hair on his head. He was so sweet and shy, yet he had the courage to ask why you looked so different than him
You first didn’t get what he meant. Since when you took your two-legged form you looked perfectly human. The laughter of your parents and the whispered words of your mother still made you blush.
In land-dweller’s eyes the merfolk, even in their own human form, were beautiful and enchanting.
So the little boy had just found you beautiful and couldn’t better say it.
You were charmed, still.
You took his tiny hand in yours and he showed you his home.
You both enjoyed the festival together. Played games, eat food, and told stories about your families, till it was time for you to return to your parents.
Even with so many people around, you couldn’t stay long with the land dwellers. They would sooner or later notice that your family didn’t belong to either of their clans.
That’s when the little boy gave you shy a little bracelet he had made for you. You thanked him with a little kiss on the cheek, which left him paralyzed and you blushing and giggling run to your parents.
To return with them to the water.
Later when you fell asleep in the embrace of your mother, you remember you never even asked his name.
What a shame.
You stared at your reflection in the water and touched the necklace which hung between your full breasts.
It was made from the bracelet your little land dweller friend had made you. As you had grown the bracelet had become too tight for your pulse so you had turned it into a necklace.
You wonder if he still lived here?
How was he doing?
Was he married?
Had children?
Or had a dragon got to him?
You bit your lip and walked around the cove thinking.
Dragons and the merfolk were friends. The water dragons even loved to play with your people, but they did steal food from the land dwellers.
No one knew why.
It was not like you talked the tongue of the dragons.
You just know that since forever, that dragons and the merfolk were friends.
Again no one knew why.
It was just like this.
The dragons loved the merfolk and they stole food from the land dwellers.
While you were walking you found a little cave.
Oh, this would be a perfect sleeping place.
You could sleep underwater, but you wanted to stay a bit more above.
By the seven seas, once you made your decisions and had children you couldn’t anymore have little adventures like this.
Best to make of the time you still had.
So you got into the cave and prepared with leafs a comfy sleeping place.
After you catched yourself some fish from the pool, and eat them, you decide to go to sleep.
The night was approaching, it was high time.
Smiling satisfied with this little sanctuary you had found for yourself, you fall asleep like a babe.
Forgetting all the worries in the world. Just enjoying the tranquility.
It didn’t last long since a black dragon crashed into the cove.
So much for a relaxing sleep!

Chapter 4: Growing closer
Tight your little hand was held by your mother. She was making sure you didn’t get lost.
With your free hand, you scratched the collar of your dress. You weren’t used to clothes.
It was so itchy!
Your father laughs and pats your head.
You grin up at him.
Your little family is one of many in this ocean of land-dwellers. No one would suspect anything.
With big eyes you let your parents lead you through the festive land dweller home.
There was food, music, and games!
Things you have never seen. It was so different than when your people celebrate important dates.
Children run around laughing. Men cheery drunk many cups of ale. Women talked, and gossiped with each other.
Young men asked young women to dance with them at the plaza in an enchanting circle, where they switched partners, twirling around and finding each other again.
Laughing you pointed at it and your father got the hit.
He took you in his arms, twirling you around.
You giggled happily and heard how your mother was clapping in tune with the music for you both.
You could see that some land dweller, mostly older women, watched you and your father dancing away, cooing at you two.
You did blush a bit, but you wouldn’t stop.
Your father picked you up and throw you high up. You heard the worried gasp of the land dwellers, but you were used to and had faith in your father.
He caught you, putting you down on the floor.
The music got more energetic.
You gripped one of each hand of your parents so that you three could dance together.
It was so much fun to get twirled around by your mother and your father.
It was heartwarming seeing how they danced with each other, emotions you didn’t understand in their eyes, yet you wanted that someone looked one day at you this way.
This look was so amazing.
With a last big twirl the song ended, you laughed gleefully and your parents took you in their embrace.
That’s when you saw him.
He was all alone in a corner of the plaza, like a lost little lamb.
He looked at you with big green eyes, as if you were something otherwordly. You didn’t know why you blushed.
You saw how he seemed to give himself a pep talk and walked slowly up to you…

Abruptly you awoke from your dream or more from the memory and looked confused around.
Last night you decide to sleep underwater, even if Toothless was an amazing cuddle partner, you had missed the lull of the water, so you slept on the ground of the pool in the hidden cove.
You were enjoying your dream, remembering your old land dweller friend, as two big splashes woke you up.
Finally, you saw that Hiccup and Toothless seemed to have taken a dive.
But why was Hiccup cheering like a maniac?
Determined to get the answer you swim up and break the surface beside Hiccup.
“Good morning, Hiccup. You seem really enthusiastic, what’s up?”
Grinning he turns to you and shakes his wet brown locks from his forehead.
“Hey [Y/N]! Good morning to you too I was wondering where you were.”, he greets you, his grin really bordering on maniac.
“Mermaid, did you forget? I’m more used to sleeping underwater.”, you raise an eyebrow at him and turn to Toothless.
The dragon is on land and is shaking himself dry like a big dog.
Wait for a second, what was that?!
“Hiccup, what is this on Toothless tail?”, you ask shocked.
It looks like a tailfin, but it’s impossible. It can’t just grow back!
“That my dear friend is my newest invention.”, he tells you proudly. “I understood that without his tailfin intact Toothless can never fly again, so I made him an artificial one.”
Here Toothless snorts really loud and seems to shake his head at Hiccup.
“Yeah I know, Toothless, it wasn’t that good. But I will work on it till I get it right! You will fly again I promise.”
You get all mushy inside.
How sweet of Hiccup to want to help Toothless.
“You are a good man.”, you tell him proudly.
Here he grins sheepishly and rubs his neck.
“Well, it is actually my fault that he is like that…”
…What?!
With an ice-cold voice you demand to know what he means by that and he tells you that he was the one who shoot down Toothless with one of his inventions!
You know what do to!
With your fishtail, you send a huge wave in his face, which nearly drowns him and makes Toothless laugh a dragon laugh.
“Come on [Y/N], I said sorry a 100 times, even Toothless isn’t angry at me anymore.”. Hiccup whines at you.
You just scoff and cuddle closer to Toothless, who has one of his wings wrapped around your form.
Maybe you are been petty, Hiccup is doing anything to right his wrong, just your anger is still bigger. You still remember with clarity how Toothless has suffered under his wound till you healed him up.
“All right.”, signs Hiccup. “I brought something for you too, I will just leave it here.”
This perks you up.
“You have something for me?”, you repeated and even Toothless grumbled interested.
Hiccup grins a little and hands you a big parcel.
You look at it confused.
“The big fur is a blanket, so you don’t freeze if you sleep above ground.”, he tells you, while you unpack it.
A pretty dress in your favorite color, undergarments, and shoes come out.
You blink a few times.
Then you give him a grin.
“It bothers you so much that I’m naked that you got me clothes, I’m right?”
He splutters an excuse, but his red cheeks are a dead giveaway.
“All right, all right. I will wear it. There is just a problem.”, you tell him gleefully, excited to see how he reacts.
“W-What?”
“I don’t know how to dress in it. You need to help me.”
Hiccup turns formally into a statue. Just his gapping mouth and his red cheeks are any indications that he is still in the realm of the living.
You and Toothless break out in laughter. For that Hiccup gives you both a death stare.
But it seems his discomfort with seeing you all the time naked is higher than helping you dress because he tells you to stand up.
Grinning cheekily you do it.
“And now?”, you ask with a wink.
The young man huffs at you and picks up the undergarments.
“First this!”
Oho, seems like someone wants to be all tough. You just can’t and giggle even more. He looks at you annoyed.
Putting the undergarments on is an experience.
Feeling his callous hands on your skin gives you goosebumps and lets your mind thrift to places where you probably shouldn’t go.
Like how they would feel in your most sensitive place.
You fight off your lust, while Hiccup helps you put on the dress.
Okay, now you feel like a toddler.
After the shoes are in their place, you playfully pick up the skirt of your dress and twirl around.
You admit you feel beautiful wearing it.
Nonetheless, you ask: “So how do I look?”
The way Hiccup stares at you and gulps, make the butterflies in your stomach fly wild. This look…you have seen it before, you can’t just put your finger on it.
“You look amazing.”, Hiccup coughs shyly. His eyes look at the ground and a cute blush is on his cheeks. “The color suits you well.”
“You have seen me butt naked, but me dressed get’s you all bothered. You are a cutie pie, you know?”, you can’t help but tease him a bit.
For that, you get again an annoyed look.
You just giggle.

The next day you watch amused at how Hiccup chases Toothless around the coven.
He had made a saddle and harness so he could help Toothless fly. To say the dragon wasn’t impressed with his idea was an understatement.
“[Y/N], please help me!”, Hiccup formally whines at you.
With a laugh, you help him to catch the running dragon.
“That a good boy.”, you coo at Toothless, giving him pats, while Hiccup puts the saddle on him. “Who is the most handsome boy? Yes, it’s you!”
Toothless gives you for this a big dragon smooch.
You give his snout a kiss back.
You miss how heartful Hiccup looks at you.

Toothless and Hiccup are trying out to fly together. You are in your mermaid form in the water watching them.
The tail breaks free sending Hiccup flying.
“Hiccup!”, you shout worried. “Toothless!”
Thank god for the two land in the water.
You swim up to them to check if they are okay.
“Okay, I need something that doesn’t make me fly off this easily.”, Hiccup mumbles to himself, while you look for injuries.

“I have something for you.”
You are petting Toothless and grin up to him.
“Another gift? You spoil me, Hiccup!”
He turns red, handing you a book.
You look at it fascinated.
“If you are ever bored, you can read the book. It’s one of my favorites.”, he explains to you.
“That’s very sweet of you.”, you tell him touched. “There is just one problem.”
“Huh?”
“I can’t read your language.”
Hiccup is still for a second, blinking with wide eyes, till he announces: “Well then I have to teach you how to read and write.”
Thus your first lesson starts.

You laugh out loud seeing how blissful Toothless is rolling around in the tall grass. The dragon writhes on his back, tongue wagging, in complete bliss.
Hiccup picks up a bit of the dragon nip and gets a mischief idea.
Later, before he has to go to Dragon Training, you both sit together leaning on Toothless in the cove, reading together.
Well, Hiccup reads and tries to teach you.
You follow his finger moving over the writing word, reading out loud with him.
Slowly you get a grasp on the language of the Vikings.

Like Hiccup has taught you, you write your own name on the ground of the cove.
Meanwhile, Hiccup rubs Toothless behind the ear, causing him to relax and fall over.
You both stare at each other and then at the purring dragon.
You laugh together.
You feel your heart hammering in your chest.
These days with Hiccup and Toothless have been so far the best days of your life.
You didn’t know, but Hiccup thought the same about you and Toothless.

“You are so mean.”, you tell Hiccup giggling.
With his hammer, he has created a little light spot which Toothless chases around the coven like a big kitty cat.
He just winks at you, which makes you turn shy and he blushes red after he realized what he has done.
You both look down at the ground, small smiles on your faces.

Hiccup straps a newly designed harness onto Toothless. With Toothless tied to a nearby post with a rope. Hiccup rides him in the air while stationary. Toothless looks like a giant kite tied to a tree stump.
This harness seems to work.
You look up from your book and smile at them.
They are slowly getting there.
The rope breaks and the pair crashes into a tree.
Worried you call out to them and look for injuries.
That’s when Hiccup sees that the harness has become jacked.
“Oh, great.”, he groans.
“Oh dear, what now?”, you ask him.
Hiccup looks from you to Toothless.
“Well, you both ever visited a Viking village?”
Toothless and you stare at him.

“This is crazy!”, you mumbled as you search in the Blacksmith's stall for the tool Hiccup asked you.
Toothless is with you in there, while Hiccup is out, playing guard.
Suddenly you hear a feminine voice calling out to Hiccup.
Both talk really awkward to each other or better this Astrid is accusing Hiccup of being weirder than usual.
You turn angry hearing that.
Who is this girl and who the hell does she think she is?
You find the tool the same moment Toothless sees the sheep.
“Toothless, no!”, you hiss at him.
Too late then Hiccup gets pulled through the shutters.
You sit behind Hiccup holding on tight as you three make it like a tree and escape from this Astrid.
At least you got the tool and can separate Hiccup and Toothless in the safety of the cove.
What crazy days you have lived with them!

Chapter 5: It is time!
It was now finally there.
After days of days of experimenting, of learning, and working on making better equipment for Hiccup and Toothless.
They were ready.
It was time to see if they really could fly together.
You hold on tight Hiccup waist, no way in the seven seas you were missing this.
And well, Hiccup wanted you to join them.
So here you were with Hiccup, flying with Toothless over the ocean.
It was already so incredible.
All was so small from this high up.
Billowing clouds rise like mountains. The ground seems miles below you.
“Okay there bud, we're gonna take this nice and slow.”, he tells your dragon friend and then turns to you. “You ready for it, milady?”
You blink for a second.
This was the first time Hiccup called you milady. You don’t know how to feel about that.
You nodded and hugged his body tighter.
“Let’s go Hiccup and Toothless!”
Hiccup checks a leather cheat sheet, clipped onto his harness. Inscribed upon it are several tail positions and their pedal position equivalents.
“Here we go. Here we go...position three, no four.”
“I hope you know what you do.”, you mumbled.
“Don’t worry, I have anything under control.”, he reassures you.
He presses the pedal, causing the tail to flare. You guys roll off into an arcing bank, gloriously lit by the late afternoon sun. Hiccup tucks tight against his neck, thrilled that his new harness and vest are holding. The foot controls make the tail appendage quick and responsive. He watches Toothless' every fluctuation, trying to match it with the prosthetic. Hiccup sizes up a target a towering arch of stone, rising from the sea.
“Don’t tell me we are going in?”, you ask a bit scared.
“Hold on tight, [Y/N]!”, he gives you as an answer.
You sign and grip him even tighter. You can feel his muscles under the harness.
No, now was not the time to fantasize about Hiccup muscles.
“All right, it's go time. It's go time.”
“May have the seven seas mercy on us!”, you can’t help but say.
You dive toward it, lining up to pass through the arch.
“Come on. Come on buddy. Come on buddy!”, Hiccup encourages Toothless.
You join him: “You can do it Toothless!”
Careful you guys zip through the arch. A perfect maneuver.
This calms you down massively. Seems like Hiccup got it right!
“Yeah! Yes, it worked!”, he yells happily.
“Wuhu!”, you also yell glad.
The triumph is short-lived. You guys smack into one of several sea stacks as Hiccup tries to keep up with the turns.
“Sorry.”
Again you hurtle into another rock pillar. Toothless grumbles. You give Hiccup’s back of head an annoyed look.
“My fault.”
Toothless swats him with his 'ear' plate and you flick the back of his head.
“Yeah, yeah, I'm on it.”, Hiccup promises and checks again his cheat sheet. “Position four, no three.”
Your trio pierces the clouds. For the first time, Hiccup and you can see the whole of the island below you.
It’s so beautiful that you let out a gasp. Who would have thought that a mermaid would one day reach the skies?
Berk shrinks with every passing second. You hear how Hiccup swallows hard and tightens his grip on the handles. To be safe you check that you hold on to him tight too.
“Yeah! Go baby! Yes! Oh, this is amazing! The wind in my...CHEAT SHEET! STOP!”
It happens so fast.
One moment you are flying, then Toothless stops to beat his wings and Hiccup and you go weightless. The rings of his vest float off of the harness hooks. Hiccup and you suddenly find yourself detached, free-falling!
“Kyaaah!”, you shriek scared, and wrap even your legs around Hiccup.
He isn’t better, he is screaming for his life too: “Oh, gods! Oh no!”
Without Hiccup, the tail loses control.
You, Hiccup, and Toothless spiral downward. Toothless fights to get back under you guys.
“This is it, this is it, that’s how I die!”, you scream scared shitless, meanwhile Hiccup tries to get back to Toothless: “All right, okay. You just gotta kinda angle yourself. No, no...come back down towards me. Come back down--!”
Hiccup extends his arms and legs, giving himself as much surface area as he can. He angles back towards Toothless as the tumbling dragon whacks you two with his wing. After a few more misses, Hiccup finally grabs hold of the harness and manages to lock in just in time to pull Toothless out of his dive barely shy of the tree tops. You guys careen past the wooded cliff and directly into treacherous slalom course of jutting sea stacks. Hiccup pulls the cheat sheet from his teeth and attempts to check positions. It flaps violently in the turbulence, making it impossible.
“FORGET IT!”, you scream at him, still holding on to him tight like a koala. “JUST FLY!”
He listens to you and throws the cheat sheet away and steers Toothless' tail on instinct with perfect intuition.
Together, they manage a tight, hair-raising series of split-second turns, making it to the open water, unscathed.
Hiccup and you take a breath and glance back at the death-defying obstacle course, now safely behind you. He beams, relieved. You let out the breath you were holding, grinning.
He sits back and throws his arms up in victory. You pump one of your fists.
“YEEAHHH!”, you both celebrate together.
Toothless concurs with a happy squeal and a fireball. Hiccup's glee turns to dread as you fly directly into it.
“Ah, come on.”, he groans.
You giggle and hide behind his broad shoulders.

Later your trio is on a deserted little island on its beach. With Toothless’s help, Hiccp made a fire and you caught for your three enough fish to eat.
You and Hiccup are cooking your fish over the fire while leaning comfortably on Toothless, who eats gleefully his share.
You can’t help but tussle Hiccup ash-covered hair and giggle.
“That’s a good look on you.”, you tease.
“You are just lucky you had me as your personal shield.”, he rebukes, but he grins.
“You are an awesome shield.”, you praise him. “And an amazing dragon rider.”
“Aww, shush, you turn me all shy.”, he waves your praise off.
You smile just at him. This boy… this young man, he really did the impossible he made a downed dragon fly again and rides it.
Who would have thought this possible?
Suddenly Toothless regurgitates a fish head. Hiccup smirks with forced politeness.
“Uh..no thanks. I'm good.”
Toothless looks at you with big eyes. You love the dragon, but you would never eat fish like that.
“Thanks, sweetheart, but I’m good too.”
Several Terrible Terrors land like seagulls, hissing and nipping at each other as they approach Toothless' pile of fish. One grabs the regurgitated fish head and drags it away. Another attempts to steal it from him. They face off and last fire balls at each other to settle the fight.
Hiccup, you and Toothless watch, amused.
That is until Toothless spots one of his fish leaving the pile. A stealthy Terrible Terror is exposed as the thief. They tug on the fish, and it snaps back into Toothless' mouth.
He swallows it back tauntingly.
Irate, the little dragon paws at the ground and blast Toothless. He opens his mouth, the gas hiss comes, and Toothless fires a tiny flame straight into its mouth, causing the gas to backfire into the little dragon. It coughs up smoke and staggers away, looking ill.
Hiccup and you laugh.
“Not so fireproof on the inside, are you?”, the brunette say to the little dragon.
“Here you are cutie.”, you throw the Terror some cooked fish.
The appreciative little dragon gulps down the meal and approaches you and Hiccup cautiously. He curls up between you two.
You start to pet the little dragon, while Hiccup is amazed. He joins you in the petting.
“Everything we know about you guys is wrong.”, says Hiccup out loud.
You know he referring to this Viking village.
“The world turned upside down, huh?”, you tell him.
Hiccup nods.
“You can say it loud, milady, you can say it loud.”
You frown hearing him calling you again milady. What’s up with that?
“Please don’t call me that.”, you beg him, wrinkling your nose. “Milady fits someone else, not me.”
The brunette splutters and turns red.
“I…I thought…I didn’t really think…I’m sorry.”
He turns away from you with a crestfallen face. You bite your lip, while Toothless croons at you. You didn’t mean it like that.
Careful you put a hand on Hiccup check so you can face each other. You fight down your own embarrassment.
“Listen, if, if you want to give me a pet name, milady doesn’t do it for me. That’s someone else. Not me.”, you explain.
The young man blinks at you, you feel how warm his cheek gets under your hand.
“Oh…so you are not against pet names?”
“N-No. Not from you.”
“Oh.”
You just stare into each other eyes and can’t seem to look away. Deep down you know if you don’t make it clear now that you like Hiccup more than a friend, you would miss your chance.
So you put your other hand on his cheek and slowly lean in. You give him enough time to turn away, to make it clear if he doesn’t what this.
But just feel how he shakes under your hands and leans in too.
Your lips meet in a soft kiss.
It’s just your lips on his.
His lips are a bit dry against your soft ones.
Yet it is the most amazing kiss of your life. You can’t even describe the emotion that is flowing in your body. Hiccup seems to feel the same thing since he signs, closes his eyes, and puts one of his hands over yours.
This gives you the courage to deepen the kiss.
Your close your eyes and your lips sloat together.
It’s a perfect fit.
Like you are made for each other.
Your lips meet over and over in kisses and you would probably still kiss each other if Toothless didn’t throw his head between you.
The Nigh Furry whines.
“Toothless what the heck?!”, Hiccup growls to him.
“Aww, are you jealousy, Toothless?”, you coo and give his snout a kiss. “You will always be my Sweetheart.”
“So I have a Night Fury as a competitor for your heart, great.”, signs Hiccup and gives you a crooked smile.
You smile shyly back at him. “There is no competition.”
His forest green eyes are wide and he gaps at you with a huge blush. You just giggle.
Toothless rolls his eyes at you two and growls.
“Okay, what’s wrong buddy?”, asks him Hiccup.
The Night Fury points with his snout at the darkening sky.
“Oh no, we have to return to Berk!”, yells Hiccup and stands up. The little dragons scatter because of this. “It’s high time!”
In record time you return to Berk, to the secret cove. Now that Hiccup and Toothless know how to fly together it is an amazing ride back.
Toothless already goes to your sleeping place, while you and Hiccup stand awkwardly at the entrance of the secret cove.
“Well, we see us tomorrow.”, Hiccup says and rubs his neck.
You play with your dress hemline.
“Yeah, sleep well then.”
You stare at each other like two idiots.
You are acting like idiots.
This pisses you off.
“Okay, someone has to say something.”, you tell Hiccup. “So I will do it. I like you Hiccup and that’s why I kissed you.”
For a few seconds, he is just a statue, till he takes you in his arms and plants a big kiss on your lips now. You formally purr and throw your arms over his neck.
You are both so pressed against each other that not even a little piece of paper could fit between you. Like this, you can feel all of Hiccup. This only motivates you to lick along his lips, till your tongues find each other and battle for dominance.
It’s getting so hot and that’s when Hiccup shoves you formally from him.
Surprised you blink up to him.
“Too much?”, you ask wondering.
Hiccup is breathing deeply and waving his hands in front of his cheeks to cool down.
“I like you too [Y/N], but I don’t think we are ready for more.”
You are a bit disappointed, you wouldn’t lie, but if he doesn’t feel ready you would not pressure him.
So you nod.
Thankful Hiccup gives you a sweet peck and with that, he is off to go home.
Meanwhile, you watch him leave like the lovesick fool you are.
You touch your lips and sign dreamy.
Hiccup is such a good kisser!
You can’t wait to share more kisses with him.
