Older than your average tumblrina; usually too busy working; used to fanart, fanfic and rp. Currently lurking in these fandoms: Supernatural (Destiel & Cockles), Avengers (Stony), Gotham Knights (CW), The Sandman, The Boys, Our Flag Means Death. Likely to pick up more with time. ;P

Some of you may have heard this already, but rural carriers in the USPS just got fucked over. (note: i myself am not a usps employee, but my partner is)

USPS and the National Rural Letter Carriers' Association (NRLCA) have disagreed on how to price the volume of work for the rural routes. City (walking) routes get paid hourly, but rural routes get paid salaried. After disagreeing, the matter went to arbitration and the arbitor chose a complicated algorithm for determining the pay by volume, and it goes into effect this week. People are losing thousands of $ a year. Most between 5%-30% of their wage just.. gone. My partner only lost $4000 off their wage, but someone he works with lost $10,000 off their yearly income. A person on reddit is saying they lost $18,000.

The USPS always gets the short end of the stick, but this is going to throw things into chaos. USPS workers are unable to strike, so they don't have much ability to fight back. (though some have been talking about illegal strikes...) They can file a grievance within their union, but it's a gamble on if it will work.

How you can help: please make a fuss about this. Contact your local reps. Share this on social media. Tell your friends.

Thank you. ❤️❤️

Row of tampons on a blue background

There is a new subreddit called r/PeriodPantry that allows people who need period products to post wishlists. Many people are forced by poverty to chose between menstrual hygiene products and other necessities, and may end up skipping meals or suffering health problems or social isolation as a result of lacking hygiene products. Please feel welcome to post a period product wishlist, fulfill a wishlist, and/or reblog this post to help it reach others.

I obviously can’t speak for all libraries, especially academic libraries, but I can speak for the university library I work at:  most of these sources, and many more, are available freely.  You don’t have to be part of the University community either-- we offer user memberships that allow non-university patrons to use resources on campus and, I believe, off campus via our proxies.  So take advantages of these resources. That’s what they’re there for.  They’ll enrich your research experience so much better than the Google short-cut.  :P

Skip Google for Research

As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse.  It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search terms

As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable.  As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.

Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.

Google is so powerful that it “hides” other search systems from us. We just don’t know the existence of most of them. Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information. Keep a list of sites you never heard of.

www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.

www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.

https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.

www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.

http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.

www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.

www.pdfdrive.com is the largest website for free download of books in PDF format. Claiming over 225 million names.

www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents, 70% of them are free

I've wondered about this too.  When we first meet The Empty, It's main goal is to sleep.  It's Pissed that It can't sink back into Oblivion.  Perhaps it's my limited, non-multitasking-on-a-metaphysical-level, mortal perspective but torturing seems counterproductive to getting a solid, eons-long coma nap.

i actually completely reject the idea that the empty tortures you when you're dead. it's a realm of nothingness. it's the end of everything. LITERALLY THE PERFECT VACCUM. to sustain a torture machinery would mean that you're NOT nothing you are something and you are constantly doing something. that's work. that's not the empty.

in my opinion, it's like you're at the bottom of the ocean. your essence — demonic, monstrous, angelic, whatever — is like a dead body at the bottom of the ocean. time will eat away at your skin and then your flesh. eventually even bones break down. millennia go by, and there will probably only be the impression of the ghost of a body there. that's the empty to me. a place where your existence is erased, but it's a natural process and not predatory or. like. with malicious intent.

also..how arrogant to assume this eldritch entity has time to create a personal torture chamber for you. that it could even CARE to do something like that. who even came up with that plot. it's stupid!!!
