I am Ruba from northern Gaza. I had a campaign on GoFundMe, but unfortunately, due to their complex policies, my account was suspended and the funds were blocked. We have been living under genocide for the past 10 months, which has completely exhausted our bodies. Every day, we witness massacres and genocide, and the situation has been catastrophic since the war started on October 7. Since that day, our lives have been in disarray, we have been displaced from place to place, and the war has killed everything beautiful inside me and my family.

My father lost his entire livelihood, and for the past 10 months, he has been out of work, leaving us with no source of income. Life has worn us down, and now life has become very difficult for us.

The price of a tent is $500, and the cost of food, water, my father's medical treatment, and charging our phones to stay informed amounts to $500 per day. Everything is extremely expensive. I hope you can support me and stand by my side to save our lives from this war and famine.

There are writers in Gaza, there are journalists, there are artists, all of whom having their own style, their own field of interest. But right now, their ink only flows onto the reports of their own genocide.  There are very few places in the world where it has been made so; where life has stopped and conversations have been flattened.

I remember getting to know that Motaz liked to document the beauty of little moments- going to shops and clicking pictures of crafts and friends. I remember Bisan posting about attending a lecture in Egypt. The point here being, every journalist, every writer had a life. They had their own thing going on. That blue vest and helmet were forced on them! And even if they didn't don one on– their pen still moves to document the death of their family, friends and fellow colleagues who were cruelly targeted by the zionist occupation during this time.

My friend Siraj Abudayeh ( @siraj2024 ) is a journalist...

He is a writer too and before October 7, he used his gift of writing to help those who were in need. He wrote mostly about charity work back then, and it is somewhat of a cruel irony that today he has been put in the position of having to appeal to the free world for their humanity. Siraj says, "In this war, I became a needy person"

We are a website full of writers- be it writing fics or be it about politics, the point is that we write! Thousands of notes, thousands of reblogs, thousands of opinions on tumblr and I am saying to you now, that none of it matters, if we cannot mobilize ourselves for a fellow writer, who is facing genocide in Gaza

I request you then, to take Siraj's voice far and wide, to please follow his blog and read the updates he painstakingly writes everyday on his blog (@siraj2024). Please, amplify Siraj's voice and tell people about his writings, request them to donate, to organize themselves so that he may rebuild his house in Gaza.

Siraj needs to raise 30k within this week !! Time is running out, as it is becoming more and more difficult for him to continue on with posting for his campaign.

Sometimes, I just want to marvel at the complexity with which Marinette Dupain Cherny was written

Like, it is a known fact from canon that Marinette loves fashion and loves pretty things. When we meet her, we see that she is interested in becoming a designer and has a bedroom displaying her affinity for all things pretty and girly. She’s a girly girl who has an eye for her aesthetic and that part of her personality is something integral to who she is.

You’d expect from this information for Marinette to gravitate towards pretty things or dare I say, to even be materialistic or shallow

And yet, she isn’t

When Marinette comes into contact with things we think she should adore, she hesitates, she treats them with uncertainty, she’s mistrusting and cautious until she can be proven otherwise.

We see this with how she is introduced to her miraculous. How she doesn’t immediately put on a new piece of jewelry and does not give the foreign entity a lavish disguise. She keeps the earrings at a distance, and even after being convinced of their trustworthiness keeps them plain and inconspicuous. Unwilling to sacrifice utility and protection for the sake of something looking a certain way. She however, does not let the plainness of her miraculous get in the way of her “personal brand” and still manages to fit the earrings to her style. In truth sacrificing neither her safety nor her taste.

We also see her act with these conditional aesthetics, when it comes to Adrien. Adrien, the model and the son of her favorite fashion designer, should be someone that Marinette immediately gravitates to, and yet, she doesn’t. Adrien is rebuffed and rebuked immediately by Marinette, and even after learning who he is, Marinette still chooses to treat him with disregard and coldness. It is only when Adrien proves himself, proves that he is not merely a gilded object, but someone golden to the core, someone instilled with kindness and empathy, that Marinette lets her guard down and lets herself fall.

What I am saying is, thank you Marinette Dupain Chen for breaking every stereotype of the “girly girl” and for bringing complexity, compassion, care, and depth to this character and letting us see her for the person she is
