she can't help it that she's clumsy! " keep it up or you'll be sleeping on the couch tonight. " she singsongs, smiling up at him.

"Why are ya so short?"

"Why Are Ya So Short?"

" wha— i-i'm not short! i'm five foot six, that— that's above the average height for a woman! " she does still have trouble reaching the top shelves of her kitchen cabinets and her bookshelves, though, so there's that. agatha pouts, crossing her arms over her chest. " i'm not short. "

" who did this to you? " (high school era marggie :3c)

who did this to you? / accepting!

agatha knows well enough by now how much of a coward she is. running from a situation was better than trying to stick up for herself because when she tried, it always came back to bite her in the ass. it bit into her, chewed her up and spat her out like she was nothing. it was better to run and hide as best as she could. she favors the library; it's quiet, easy to hide among the many shelves of books, and there was almost always someone here. the library, but most of all, the books contained within it, were her escape.

it didn't really change when maren came to this school. she doesn't know why the other let her hang around when her bullies also tried to target her for it. all it usually took for them to back off was that cold, hard stare of maren's, that only seems to soften when she gazes upon the young faerie. was it pity? does she really care? she felt it was the former only for a little while and the latter for much longer. if she didn't truly care, why stick up for her? why get herself into trouble for her? she doesn't seem to do this with anyone else, either. just agatha. regardless, the bullying was often worse when maren wasn't around, but somehow, the other's presence in her life made it all a little more bearable.

maren was the only one that could really brighten her day these days. when they're together, little else matters. she's significantly more relaxed, more open, more... herself. she doesn't feel like an empty shell running on autopilot, pushing through the day until she can go home. maren was the only one that came to her defense and continued to do so, not at all intimidated by agatha's bullies. she often found herself wishing she had that courage, that strength, that level of intimidation. but agatha was soft and weak, her confidence and self-esteem are almost completely lacking. it was often the subject of the bullying, and it's why she finds herself in the library yet again.

maybe, as she was heading to her next class, maren saw her run, saw the tears in her eyes. she was always so observant, of course she would notice the faerie when she was upset, of course she would follow her to the library, regardless of whether or not she was going to be late to her next class. agatha heard footsteps approaching. she always walked softly toward the faerie, like she was afraid she'd bolt, and maybe she would've if she hadn't known who it was. she hears her footsteps and lifts her head up from her arms as they rest atop her knees, her eyes red and puffy, shining with tears. she was frazzled, she was hurting, she was so, so very tired. why couldn't they just leave her alone? why her to begin with? does she really stand out that much? is it all that obvious? is it because of how weak she is?

she sees maren's gaze drift down to the bruise quickly appearing around her upper arm and the faerie looks away, swallowing thickly. she sniffles, trembling hands wiping away the tears from her eyes and off of her cheeks, only for more to spill down them. what a weak, emotional thing she is. from the corner of her eye, agatha sees the other squat down in front of her the way she does when she's trying to get agatha to look at her. gazing into her eyes is like looking at two emeralds that were perfect in every way.

" who did this to you? " maren asks in that calm-before-the-storm kind of way and she looks away once more, tears welling in her eyes and flowing freely down her cheeks. she doesn't even have to answer. maren already knows. of course she knows and she was going to teach him a lesson again, but before she can get up and leave to do just that, agatha reaches out and wraps her hand around maren's wrist, looking up at her again. wordlessly, she pleads for her to stay. she needs her to stay so bad. she doesn't want to be alone right now, not for a while. just please stay, agatha's gaze pleads with the other.

maren removes the faerie's grasp on her wrist, now taking her hand into her own and she nods. " i'll stay as long as you need me to, aggie. " she sits beside her, snaking an arm around her back and holding her close as they sit there on the library floor, among the safety of the shelves and the books. " i'm not going anywhere, okay? i'm right here. "
