I Have Pretty Severe Submechanophobia When It Comes To Animatronics, But I Also Have A Sick Fascination
I have pretty severe submechanophobia when it comes to animatronics, but I also have a sick fascination with them and like scaring myself. I've seen most of the common animatronics in water, but I'm wondering if you have any rare ones? That or a compilation post. The ones that scare me the most are the dinosaurs on the Jurassic park ride that lurk under the surface of the water.
Oh jeez, yeah, it’s the same with Mod Cat and I, actually. We both have really bad submechanophobia, and despite our love for animatronics, its most severe when it involves them. We both have a weird obsession with freaking ourselves out with content of them. So you’re not alone, at least?
Also, yes, the Parasaurolophus are REALLY freaky, especially the ones that still rise up 6 feet before sinking back down. Eeeuggh. I think its worse when things are closer to the surface rather than too deep to reach. However, at least for me, the exception (and an obscure example for you!) would be this.
This is Nessie, from the 1969 film “The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes”. She’s a massive animatronic head mounted on a submarine. Here’s her head with an artist who created her for scale.
During filming, the prop took on water due to its unstable structure and sank to the bottom of Loch Ness. In recent years, however, something odd showed up on a scan of the lake bottom.
She’s still down there, in-tact, but unreachable.
The “unreachable” part makes it a little better, right?
This reassurance, for me, at least, was quickly worn away by the online game of Poptropica (yes, I still play it), which featured the prop in a level involving cryptids. You have to take a submarine to the bottom of Loch Ness and discover it in the dark, sitting upright, seemingly emerging toward you.
Needless to say, because of this game, I’ve had a few nightmares of swimming in Loch Ness before feeling my foot brush against something, only to look down…
You get the point.
Hope this helped!
