Like A Comet
Like a Comet

Summary: Kakashi gets roped into getting a palm reading from a visiting fortune teller who claims his future bride will come crashing into his life with a spirit of fire. Even though he attempts to brush it off, Kakashi faces his fate as a familiar villager who needs rescuing.
Snippet:
“Love is not something that comes easy to a seasoned ninja such as you,” Koujiko explained. “You hold everyone at arm’s length. Not to protect them, but to protect yourself.”
“A shinobi must not have earthly attachments, Fortune Teller. Any ninja worth their salt would know that.” Kakashi replied casually.
Koujiko frowned and pulled his palm closer once again. Her finger pressed to a spot in the middle of his palm with a gasp.
“See, right there? There is hope for you, Copy Ninja. Your marriage line is very prominent here. The chaos of your love line and marriage line come together strong here. Your future bride has a fiery spirit and will enter your life with the ferocity of a comet. You are lucky, sir, she’s quite lovely.”
Koujiko leaned back into her piles of pillows with reverent breath. Her eyes stared off into the distance as though she were looking into the eyes of this fake woman.
Kakashi retrieved his hand with a blatantly exasperated crease in his brow. Marriage had been out of the question since he was a teenager. Witnessing the many deaths of loved ones and seeing his comrade’s partners fall to shambles after their demise cemented his decision long ago. Anger swelled into his belly at the audacity of the fortune teller for implying he would have to suffer that fate. To love was to lose and to lose was to suffer. And he was sick of losing. Kakashi opened his mouth to argue with her, but the fortune teller raised her hand to demand silence.
“You are powerless to avoid such divine intervention, Hatake. Take things one step at a time. The strings of Fate will arrange themselves eventually.”

Campfire Story
Summary: Kagome and Sesshomaru have differing opinions on a particular campfire story.
Snippet:
Glancing back to her newfound critic, she found Sesshomaru deep in thought as he digested her words. The firelight danced in the reflection of his scrutinizing tawny gaze. Suddenly, he met her gaze catching Kagome off guard. Surprised by the sudden eye contact, the miko squeaked and snapped her eyes to the fire.
She sensed Sesshomaru leave as she attended to the fire. Stoking the burning embers with a stick, Kagome pondered her own tale of romantic sacrifice. Despite the tale’s tragic ending the miko smiled softly to herself. A love that was so strong that the lovers were together even in death. It was morbidly beautiful and touching.
