After Shen Qingqiu has been revealed as Shen Yuan to the world at large, people assure him he can let his own self shine through.

Shen Qingqiu hadn't hid as much as they though he did, but there were parts he had discarded. Minor habits, tiny things. The parts that make a person more than a collection of ideas. He's a bit out of practice, having repressed those habits of his for so long, but at the same time it feels like a relief.

Thing is, all those small things? They recognize those. Not because he sucked at hiding them, but because they had been the very things whose absence tipped them off that Shen Qingqiu had changed.

The speech patterns of curses, the way he drapes himself over a chair when he's bored. He unconsciously licks his fingers when he's done eating. He plays with the same strand of hair when he's distracted.

Isn't it strange that he is now more Shen Qingqiu than when he had been actively trying to be him?

Not exactly angsty but you know that scene where WWX takes a drink for LWJ when Jin Zixun tries to force it? Well, it turns out that Jin Zixun slipped some form of Rohypnol (or the xianxia equivalent) in that drink and while it was only supposed to affect cultivators at a slow rate, since WWX didn’t have a core, he faints almost immediately.

Wei Wuxian throws back the wine in one go. He gives the angry Jin Zixun a smug smile and is in the middle of a snappy comeback when his voice turns slow and slurry. His smile drops and Wei Wuxian stumbles back a step before righting himself. Lan Wangji can only watch while Wei Wuxian's eyes roll back before he goes boneless. He catches Wei Wuxian just before his head hits the floor.

The party quickly descends into madness. People are yelling and throwing accusations of attempted murder at the Jin who are trying to deflect. Jiang Cheng summons Zidian and looks ready to kill. Lan Wangji ignores all of it.

His hand is on Wei Wuxian's wrist checking his pulse and searching for even a wisp of spiritual energy. There is none.

What I’d give for one of the Cinderella remakes to go into how when you’re in an isolated and abusive situation, sometimes you need to be saved and you’re not weak if you can’t escape by yourself

I’ve never been a fan of bad faith reinterpretations of fairy tales, especially ones which flatten the originals into “princesses is saved by a prince and nothing else”, to then go #girlboss. The princess can save herself because she’s a strong female character! (Implying if you’re in a bad situation, it’s because you’re not strong enough to get out)
