The Shadow

My eyes scurry along the words on the page, brows knitting in concentration as it all plays along in my head. A shadow dances along the tapestry in the corner of my vision, but when I look up... It's gone...

I think nothing of it as I delve back into my book, ignoring the fuzzy feeling that something is wrong.

An ominous crack sounds through the room, low and echoey. I blame it on the house just being old.

But when the shadow dances along the wood cabinets a sense of dread tumbled through my body.

I fought the shiver that threatened to run down my spine. I knew I should have looked up but you know what they say...
