So imagine you’ve been forced to live in some weird alternate universe where people communicate in these odd ways that don’t make sense to you. Now imagine that no one is willing to teach you how to communicate in this way so you’re constantly being mistaken for trying to be rude or mean. Now imagine that you’ve been forced to live in this weird universe since birth and everyone makes fun of you for never being able to communicate correctly and for thinking differently which in turn leaves you with such a heavy negative self view that you get scared to communicate with anyone because you’re too worried you’ll be misunderstood again. Doesn’t that sound purely awful? That’s what it’s like to be autistic.

Now obviously I can’t speak for the whole community but this is a VERY common thing for autistic kids to go through. Eventually you may learn how to do social things “correctly” but that just burns out our energy and makes it hard to do mundane tasks because you’re just so fucking tired all the time.

TL;DR: be nice to autistic kids, we’re trying our best <3
