ykw grrm gets shit on a lot by the fandom for his portrayal of lgbtq characters (for a good reason, don’t get me wrong) but i think we should also acknowledge how important it even is that he has these characters in his books in the first place. like all the major fantasy series from the past 30 years, how many of them actually had lgbtq characters? what about ones that are as big and mainstream as asoiaf is?
like yes, this cishet old white guy started writing these books in the nineties and his lgbtq character portrayals have a lot of issues but....this cishet old white guy started writing these books in the nineties and they have lgbtq characters. canon ones. in the first place. props to him at least for that

this is also such a cliche and i think people maybe got tired of it a bit and therefore revert to theon being unpleasant and snarky and not entirely unlike he once was post-ramsay but i also 100000% like that trope where someone who knew and was upset about theon meets theon again and theon is so…. gutted and silent and weird and not biting back at all or only in the most cryptic and barely intelligible ways and any attempt to engage him like ‘before’ (trading insults, trading laughter, etc) fall flat and it seems impossible to discuss real grievances of the past with this theon and it’s so weird and uncomfortable so so so uncomfortable and upsetting and uncomfortable and what will you do with this nasty ball of feelings now, faced with this? love it !!!!!
