I was 15 when the US opened up marriage for same gender couples. Until 2011 trans people had to get sterilised if they wanted to have their name and gender marker changed in Germany. Had I been born just a few years earlier, I would be sitting here without a uterus because of that. Queerphobic laws exist all over the world, that doesn't mean that there isn't a flourishing queer community there. I've been to Tel Aviv and I saw more queer couples in one place than ever before in my home country.
