25. Red Boots

Waking up my head was killing me as I look around seeing we were in a crypt. Wednesday was hanging a few feet away from me still knocked out. I look up to see I was chained up too like Wednesday.

As I look back straight ahead Tyler walks up to me tilting his head while his eyes scan my face, "I'm so sorry." He says to himself.

"You're Hyde Tyler... I can tell by the look in your eyes." I raise my head to look at him and he gives me a smirk.

"Look at you catching on quickly. I'm hurt you weren't going to tell me goodbye. I thought we really had something but you were just going to let it go." He holds my chin in his hand.

"We have nothing... Me and the other side of you have something." I glare at him in pain from that stupid shovel.

"If you love that side you have to love this side too. I never thought anything bad about your psycho side, Val. I didn't love certain parts of you, I loved all of you. Why can't you do the same?" He wipes the blood off my forehead.

"The difference is I never successfully killed anyone, you have. Six to be exact."

"I'm not going to hurt you. She can't even make me." He whispers leaning into my ear.

"You don't have control... she tells you and you do it. Even if you don't want to you'll have no choice."

"Watch me prove you wrong." He gives me a kiss and I can't help but kiss him back because I still had feelings for him.

He walks away and I look over at Wednesday waking up so he goes over to her but I can't hear their conversation well.

"Tyler baby, do mama a favor. Go take Valentine outside and get rid of her." Laurel looks over at me, "Then go wait by the boat." She looks at him. "Wednesday, might want to say your goodbyes." She says as Tyler leaves her and come over picking me up to unhook me.

"She can handle herself." Wednesday says as Tyler carries me outside with him.

Tyler walks a good distance out into the woods then puts me down so I stare at him, "Well, get it over with. Or do you want me to start running so you'll have fun catching me to rip me apart?"

He makes me put my hands out and unlocks the cuffs from my wrists, "I told you she can't make me kill you. I don't have control but I can control myself when it comes to you."

"Why did you believe her? I understand everything being kept about your mother being a Hyde was wrong but no one did anything to her. She triggered herself by postpartum. Us Outcast's didn't make you a monster... Laurel made you a monster. She did this to you. You're a victim but no one else but me sees that." I don't move from him when I was free.

"Go to the school and try to get everybody to leave." He turns to walk away but I grab his wrist making him face me.

"You believe me, right? Or do you believe the woman who groomed you? She's not the mother figure you need or deserve. You're mother wouldn't want this!" I shout making him rip his wrists free.

"You don't know anything about my mother!"

"She loved you and your father. I know that much. She was happy before her Hyde was triggered. I could see it in that picture. A vision I got when your father held my hand... she was hoped this wouldn't go to you." I raise my voice at him and he stops to stare at me. "You were just a baby when you father was listening to her talk to you putting you asleep one night. She hope if the Hyde gene did go to you, it would never get triggered. She didn't even want you to have any disorders like her with her bipolar. She didn't want anything bad happening to you. You were her world and she wanted the best for you. And your father truly loved her. He thought it was best and hoped keeping that she was a Hyde a secret would never give your Hyde a chance to come out. He thought if hers didn't exist than yours wouldn't either."

"How do I know you aren't just making up a story." He steps closer to me.

"When have I ever lied to you, Tyler? I tell you everything. I've told you things my family doesn't know." I tear up sad he thought I would lie to him. I wanted to try something so I cup his face leaning up to give him a kiss hoping I could get him to see what I saw. I step back and he just looks at me with his eyes tearing up. "See, I would never lie to you like you did to me."

"Please, go Valentine. She'll kill you or Crackstone will because I won't." He begs me.

"Crackstone..."

"Go to the school and do what I said." He walks off so I rush towards the school.

As I was running I hear Enid howling, "Enid!" I shout running towards it and see her changing. "Oh my god! You finally did!" I shout as she fully changes. "Aww, your hair is still pink." I smile and see Thing, "I heard siren's and I know Xavier was getting moved tonight so go find him and help him. Enid, we need to help Wednesday." I tell them so she runs off and I follow her.

When we get to an open space I see Tyler as the Hyde with Wednesday getting ready to strike her. "TYLER!" I scream his name catching him off guard looking over at me letting Enid out attack him. I run over to make sure she was okay.

"Enid?" She looks over at her.

"Enid! Behind you!" I shout as Tyler gets up knocking her to the side. "Go to the school." I start to shove Wednesday away.

"What about you?" She asks worried.

"I'll be fine. Just go stop Crackstone!" I shout so she takes off running so I run the direction Enid and Tyler rolled off to.

I see he was the more dominant one and he could easily break her neck. I run over grabbing a good size heavy branch off the ground, "No! Let her go!" I scream swinging the branch at Tyler multiple times making him let go of Enid so she drops to the ground.

He turns to face me ripping the branch out of my hands. I was terrified but I stand my ground in front of him, "Come on prove it to me!" I scream at him before a gun shot goes off making us flinch and look over to see his father.

"Tyler. Son, is that really you?" He asks making Tyler rush over at him.

"Tyler, no!" I run but Enid stops Tyler from getting to his father making me fall back to the ground. She kicks him a good distance knocking him out, "Go to your son." I tell Sheriff Galpin and rush over to Enid's side.

I place my hand on hers as she shifts back into herself so I put her jacket on her to cover her up. I wrap my arms around her tearing up as she cries as well. "You aren't hurt too bad are you?" I hold her in my arms.

"Thanks to you." She smiles squeezes me in her arms, "You're crying." She slightly chuckles looking at my face.

"I know, I was worried about you. He could have killed you."

"But he didn't because of you. He can control himself when it comes to you. Thing will walk me to the others. You go check on the Sheriff with Tyler." She hugs me again before we get up.

"I'll catch up with you. I promise." I leave her side rushing over to the Sheriff holding Tyler's knocked out body.

"I didn't want to believe it." I hear him say as I walk up to them.

"I know." I bend down next to them taking off my jacket putting it on Tyler's lower half to cover him up. "It's not his fault. He's a victim too. Thornhill is Laurel Gates. She forced him into this, she manipulated him." I touch Tyler's face trying to wipe the blood away with my sleeves. "He just needs to learn how to control his Hyde." I tear up.

"But my boy."

"He's still your boy. Just needs help but you know what you have to do. As much as we both hate it... it's the right thing." I look at him then back at Tyler cupping half of his face, "You proved it to me... and I love all of you, both sides." I lean towards his face giving him a kiss getting a vision of him escaping. "Tell him what I said please." I get up leaving the two of them.

As I walk through the woods I finally see all the students gathered together. When I get closer I see Enid and Wednesday hugging, "About time you gave her a damn hug." I speak up making everyone turn to look at me making a clear path for me to walk through them.

Enid rushes to hug me again and Wednesday walks over to hug me as well. I hug the both of them tightly as tears fall from my eyes.

"Are you okay?" Wednesday checks me to see if I was hurt.

"Physical, yes. Tyler can control his Hyde when it comes to me. I put it to the test saving Enid's life." I chuckle as Enid nods her head.

"I guess his feelings for you were true and strong enough."

I nod my head, "Yeah. His father is with him right now. Enid knocked him out cold. He knows what he had to do at least." I sigh.

As the teachers take over now that everything was over Xavier walks up to me and I give him a hug, "You're welcome, I sent Thing to find you." I let go of him.

"I was really glad to see him." He chuckles then stares at me, "Everything is going to be fine." He makes my tear up so he gives me a hug.

With Weems gone the school year was over and we were all headed home for the rest of the year. They said Nevermore would continue next year when they find a new principal to take over.

"So I'm a free man now. All charges were dropped." Xavier comes up behind me.

"Told you everything would be okay. You really should trust my visions."

"I believed in you. I learned to do so." He makes me chuckle some. "Are you going to come back next semester?" He asks leaning against the railing.

"Maybe, because I'd like to see my friends again and this did turn into my second home." I do the same as him.

"You can visit your friends outside of school. I mean I'm free all the time so..."

"I feel like it's gonna be difficult next semester. Weems is gone and,"

Xavier cuts in, "Tyler won't be here anymore."

"Yeah,"

"I understand it was the first time you felt new feelings about someone but don't think it's not possible for it to happen again. People fall in love more than once." He sighs.

"Please tell me you're saying this as a friend and not as wanting to be potential next love interest." I give him a look.

"I'm saying this as a friend. I know I'm missing something." He says as we look down to see Wednesday looking at us so he waves to her.

As she comes up I tell Xavier goodbye then go find Enid with Ajax and Yoko. "I was telling Wednesday you two should come visit me in San Francisco because y'all would love the weather." Enid gives me a smile.

"I would love to visit you."

"So what's your plans now we're out of school? Going back to your old ways?" Ajax laughs making me glare at him.

"No, but that part of me is still in me so watch it." I point my finger at him.

"Hopefully I get my roommate back next semester." Yoko opens her arms so I give her a hug before heading out to the car.

"Valentine! I'm looking forward to kicking you ass next semester in the Poe Cup!" Bianca shouts as I open the car door.

"I look forward to embarrassing you again." I give her a smile getting on waiting on Wednesday. When she gets in the car I see the phone Xavier gave her. "I refuse to be a slave to technology." I mock her, "I'll send you everyone's numbers." I laugh getting a unknown message.

It was two pictures; one of me and Tyler in a booth, then Xavier and me a few minutes ago. I'm watching you. Read the message.

"This isn't you is it?" I show Wednesday the text.

"Nope." She shows me the same thing on her phone but her with the boys with me too and a little gif of her dying.

8 | Making Enemies

7. Returned the Favor | 9. Boys...

For Wednesday's session with Dr. Kinbott I go into town with her and Weems. "Dr. Kinbott's office is in the second floor. Other Nevermore students and your sister swear by her." Weems tells her as we pull up. 

"You'll be here until I'm done?" Wednesday asks. 

"Perhaps afterwards we can visit the Weathervane for hot chocolate." Weems suggests to her. 

"Principle Weems, this feeble attempt at binding is beneath you. And chauffeuring your students around is below your pay grade." Wednesday gets out of the car. 

"Given your history, I'm sure you're intent on running away. I'm here to prevent that from happening." Weems lets her know. 

"I wish you luck." Wednesday shuts the door. 

"Can I go to the Weathervane?" I ask Weems. 

"Yes, you may." She says so I get out.

When I enter the café I see Tyler working on the espresso machine so I walk up to him. "Since it's the espresso machine that means I still can have my hot chocolate right?" I say with a smile then watch him stare at me, "Can I talk to you?" I get serious. 

"The machine is broke. I have to fix it." He waves the manual. 

"Tyler, please." I give him a sad look. He walks over to the side so it can be slightly private. "I'm going to keep being just yours and Xavier's friend until l know things and my own feelings." I explain leaning against the wall as he leans on the wall across from me with his arms crossed. "I'm not good at understanding myself when it comes to feelings. Others it's easier because it's like reading a book but I'm unreadable. I'm not used to them. Especially these kinds so I would appreciate it if we can keep being friends." I mess with my fingers again nervously.

He sighs uncrossing his arms, "I don't wanna lose you as a friend, you're the first person to understand me. So I want you to know I'm completely okay with with us just being friends till you understand your feelings. But I do want you to know if you end up not feeling the same way, I still don't want to lose you as a friend. My shitty life got a little better when you showed up." He steps closer to me. 

"I don't wanna lose you as a friend either because you seem to be the only person who has gotten me to open up to without a court order." I chuckle some getting off the wall, "And you're also the only one who really wants to get to know all of me." I give him a smile.

"I gotta get back to work, now." He gives me a smile. 

"Go try to tame that beast." I play shove him back to the front. 

"I can't read Italian though." He looks back at me. 

"I can."

"Do you want to help a friend out?" He motions for me to follow him. 

"Free drinks for two weeks." I eye him. 

"I already give you free drinks." He laughs going to mess with the machine while I make myself a hot chocolate. "Excuse me, you don't work here." He looks back at me for a second. 

"Well, you're busy and the only other person working is busy as well." I give him a smile.

"Holy crap! Do you make a habit of scaring the hell out of people?" I hear Tyler so I turn around to see Wednesday. 

"It's more of a hobby." She tells him. 

"New to Nevermore, I see." He eyes her. 

"I need a quad over ice. It's an emergency. It's four shots is espresso." She tells him. 

"Somebody snuck out the bathroom window." I walk over to stand by Tyler.

"Of course." She looks over at me so Tyler looks between us. 

"Yeah, I...I know what a quad is, but spoiler alert, the espresso machine's having a seizure, so all we have I drip." He tells her. 

"But drip is for people who hate themselves and know their lives have no real purpose or meaning." She says so we watch the man put it down and walk away. "What's wrong with your machine?" She asks Tyler. 

"It's a temperamental beats with a mind I'd it's own, and it doesn't help that the instructions are in Italian...And you won't help me." Tyler tells her then turns to face me annoyed. 

"You never agreed to my request so that's your fault." I tell him as Wednesday comes around to fix it. 

"I need a Tri-wing screwdriver and a four millimeter Allen wrench." She reads the manual shocking him. "Here's the deal. I'm going to fix your coffee machine, then you are going to make my coffee and call a taxi." She tells him. 

"Uh, no taxis in Jericho. Try Uber?" He suggests to her. 

"I don't have a phone. I refuse to be a salve to technology." She tells him as he works in the machine.

"Then you're out of luck. Where are you going anyways?" He watches her. 

"That's on a need to know basis. What about trains?" She asks. "Nearest station is Burlington. It's half an hour away." He tells her. 

"You have a valve issue. I've seen it before." She tells him as I get myself a snack. 

"Where? You have one of these monsters at home?"

"Steam powered guillotine. Built it when she was ten. We wanted to decapitate our dolls more efficiently." I speak up covering my mouth as I ate. 

"Wait, this is your sister. I should've known that... it's quite obvious now that I look at you both." Tyler turns to look at me. 

"She's the older twin." Wednesday says as she fixes it. 

"Wow. Thanks. I'm Tyler, by the way. I didn't catch your name, or is that on a need to know basis too?" Tyler asks her so she eyes him. 

"Wednesday."

"I tell you what, Wednesday. To show my appreciation, and help a friends family out, how about I drive you to Burlington?" He suggests to her. 

"Perfect. Put that quad in a to go cup." She tells him so he says he can't until another hour. She ends up trying to bribe him with $40 dollars but he says he can't be bought so she just had to wait. She huffs walking to a booth while he makes her drink and I go around to wait to give it to her. 

"You two are similar yet very different." He chuckles. 

"Yep, especially with me being here. She knew I've changed. She hates it. Called me weak for falling into the trap. I promised to keep an eye on her but I know my sister so I'm not going to stop her from leaving." I lean on the counter.

I take her drink and my stuff over to the booth she was sitting in. "You really have changed. You have friends and not just one." She eyes me as I sit down. 

"Yeah, six to be exact then four acquaintances." I eye her as well. 

"What are you going to tell Principal Weems for when I leave?" She changes the topic. 

"Well of she doesn't see me with you; say I don't know anything. If she sees me; I tried to stopped you but failed. If you don't get away today and get caught; say you told me the session ended early to day." I tell her so she nods her head.

After some time Tyler's ex friends show up talking about how we're in their booth. "Why as you three dressed like religious fanatics?" Wednesday asks them. 

"We're pilgrims." The taller one says. 

"Potato, po-tah-to but they work at Pilgrim World." I show her the flyer. 

"It takes a special kind of stupid to devote an entire theme park to zealots responsible for mass genocide." She tells them. 

"My dad owns Pilgrim World. Who you calling stupid?" Lucas gets pissed. 

"If the buckled shoe fits." She tells him. 

"Guys, back off." Tyler comes over to us. 

"Stay out of this, Galpin." Lucas tells him. 

"Yes, stay out of this." Wednesday stand up to stand in front of Lucas. 

"So tell me, freak... you ever been with a normie?" He asks her. 

"I've never found one that could handle me. Boo!" She scares him making the other two jump in. While Wednesday handles the bigger one I jump in to handle the taller one.

We look at the three laying on the floor in pain, "You still got it." She smiles at me. 

"So where'd you learn those kung fu moves?" Tyler asks us. 

"Our uncle taught us. He spent five years in Tibetan Monastery." I look at Tyler, who stood next to me. 

"Was he a monk?" He asks confused. 

"Prisoner." Wednesday adds. 

"Dad." Tyler sees him come in so we all turn to look at him. 

"Tyler, what the hell's going on in here?" He asks him. 

"They were harassing customers, and they put them in their place." Tyler explains so his dad eyes Wednesday and I, 

"These little things took down tree boys? Did you help them?" He asks making us eye him. 

"Dad, I swear, I wasn't involved." Tyler tells him. 

"We told him to stay out of it." I add with a smile.

"Apologizes, sheriff. This one slipped away from me but I see her sister found her. Come on, Miss Addams, both of you, time to go." Weems comes in so we go over to her. 

"Wait a minute, hang on." The sheriff stops us, "You're both a Addams? Don't tell me Gomez Addams is your father?" He asks so we nod our head, "That man belongs behind bars for murder. Guessing the apples don't fall far from the tree. I'm gonna keep my eye on you both." He points his finger at us and stares me down. 

"Okay." Weems grabs Wednesday as she smiles and I follow out waving bye to Tyler.

23 | It's Him

22. You Sound Ridiculous | 24. My Theory

After everything I gave up on what Wednesday was up to and just stayed with Enid hoping to get the image of Dr. Kinbott out of my head. I helped her move everything back into her room with Wednesday since she wanted to go back.

"Why are you with me instead of your boyfriend? I'm sure he would distract you so much better?" Enid says looking at her nails laying in her stomach.

"He's not my boyfriend." I look over at her.

"You want him to be." She looks back at me with a smile.

"Maybe." I say making her sit up and turn to face me,

"You two would be so cute as an official couple. His Golden Retriever energy with you're a Black Cat energy." She says making me laugh agreeing with that. "Where's Wednesday?"

"Probably going to accuse Xavier now." I say as her phone goes off so she reads it.

"Val... Xavier was arrested for the murders. They found Rowan's and Kinbott's belongings in his possession." Enid looks at me sadly.

"What?" I get off her bed rushing to find Wednesday and see the police lights so I run over. "What the hell?" I ask her.

"He had Rowan's glasses and Kinbott's necklace. Not to me the painted her with claw marks across her face just the same as you saw. I'm sorry but he's the Hyde." She explains to me.

"He could've been set up." I don't believe it. He couldn't be the monster.

"Then explain the painting and don't say he saw it in his dreams. He had nothing to say when I revealed it. He's guilty."

I didn't know what to do, I didn't know what to believe, and my head was killing me with all theses emotions. I slowly back away and go where my feet take me ending up in town to see Tyler.

I walk through the door with tears running down my face because I swore it couldn't have been Xavier. Some one had to set him up since Wednesday was so set on believing it was him.

"We're closed." Tyler says cleaning with his back facing me.

"Tyler..." My voice cracks making him tune to face me quickly.

"Don't cry, please." He walks over pulling me into his chest making more tears come out. "I'm sorry. My dad told me what happened with Xavier. He always seemed so normal. You know, for an outcast." He rubs my back.

"I-I just can't believe it still. I swore he was innocent. I saw him get attacked by his own painting... He wouldn't have done that on purpose would he? I thought... he was someone I could believe in and trust." I rest my head against his chest.

"What can I do to help you?"

"I don't know... This just had to get dumped on top of me dealing with what happened to Kinbott. I thought hanging out with Enid would help distract me and it sorta did because she brought up my calling you my boyfriend." I let out a tiny chuckle.

"How did you respond to that?" He rests he chin on top of my head.

"You're not my boyfriend and she said I want you to be."

"And your response to that?" He asks so I look up at him,

"Maybe." I give him a tiny smile, "Just for the record my maybe means an embarrassed called out yes." I make him smile.

"So does that mean we're official now?" He tilts his head with a grin so I lean up to kiss him and he kisses me back.

"Does that answer your question?" I bite my bottom lip smiling causing him to bring his hand to my face pulling me into a passionate kiss.

Kissing him made me forget about everything going on outside this stupid cafe but it was ruined by a vision I wish I never got. It was Kinbott attacked then the Hyde turn back into himself and it being Tyler. Now you and him made so much since since I talked about Tyler more than anyone.

"Valentine are you okay? He looks at me worried as I lay on the floor.

I just stare at him feeling so many things. This was the main person I trusted with my life and he's the freakin Hyde. But then again being the Hyde... I felt the split personality. I know he has no control since Hyde's are unpredictable. I also knew part of him felt bad about what he does. My heart started to hurt as I just stare into his eyes. I felt betrayed and normally I would get back at him by trying to kill him but I couldn't even think to do that because I fell in love with him. Did he really have feeling for me? Was it a distraction? Was it the master's plan?

"Val." He waves his hand in front of my face making me tear up again. "Hey, what's wrong?" He pulls me to sit up so I scan his face.

"I have to go. I'll text you later. I just have to go." I get up from the floor.

"Val..." I hear the pain in his voice. "What did I do? Please tell me. I love you." I hear him say to himself making me cry more.

"Would you ever hurt me?" My voice cracks before I head to the door to leave.

"Why would I ever hurt you? I could never. I fell in love with you, Valentine Addams." He walks towards me and I don't back away from him.

"I fell in love with you too." I give him a kiss before leaving and once outside I run back to the school.

I didn't really want to tell anyone Tyler was the Hyde because I loved him but he killed innocent people and Xavier was falsely accused. I guess I was still the same messed up me since I didn't hate Tyler. I was hurt but I didn't hate him. After all he had a master against his will that forced him to become this killing monster.

"Tyler's the Hyde. I got a vision of him killing Kinbott while kissing him." I spit out to Wednesday out of breath from running rushing into her room.

The next day Wednesday gets a group of us to gather together to question Tyler. To get him to show up Wednesday took my phone pretending to be me saying I needed him to meet me about why I had to leave in a rush the other night.

"This is the right thing, Val. I understand you fell for him but he's murdered people and framed your friend." Yoko says as we wait for Tyler to show up. 

"I know but..."

"You feel slightly guilty because you love him and trusted him. You still wish deep down he's the boy you opened up to." Bianca walks over to me.

"Kinda, it's because I'm hoping that part of him hates what he does since he has no control. I want that feeling I got once from him to be real. I want him to have split personality. And if all that is real that's why I feel bad."

When Tyler shows up I had the guilty feeling as Wednesday walked out confusing him since he was expecting me.

"Where's Valentine? She texted me to meet her about the other night." Tyler looks around for me as the rest of us watch hidden out of sight.

"Xavier warned me and Valentine about you, but we didn't listen." Wednesday crosses her arms staring him down.

"Ironic now, huh? Where's your sister or did you steal her phone lying again to get me here?" Tyler crosses his arms now.

"Ironic would've been framing Xavier for murder while the real Hyde helped me put him away." She tells him ignoring the second half of his question.

"Wait... you don't think-,"

Wednesday cuts him off, "I don't think. I know. Kinbott probably discovered your secret during one of your sessions. So she unlocked you. Why'd you kill her? I thought Hyde's were typically loyal to their masters."

"Wednesday, this is nuts."

"On Outreach Day, I told you I was visiting the old meeting house. Did Kinbott send you to spy on me? The night at the Rave'N you knew I was originally was going to go to your cave in the woods with Eugene. You warned Kinbott and Eugene probably saw her torching it. Then she sent you to clean up her mess. I have to hand it to you, Tyler. Wounding yourself that night at the Gates mansion, that was a masterstroke of misdirection." She tells him everything. "Kinbott told you to get Valentine to fall for you so she would never suspect it was you. You've just been using her."

"Okay, stop. Do you know how insane you sound right now? For one; I would never use your sister. I truly fell in love with her. Two; I'm not a monster. A.. And if you really thought that I was, why would you risk bringing me out to the woods to confront me alone?" Tyler has enough of her.

5 | Conflicted

"Why did I agree to that damn bet?" I groan as Enid goes through her clothes looking for an outfit to put me in for the whole day. 

"Because you got cocky with Bianca and lost which meant I won our little deal." She stops for a minute to give me a smile before diving back in. "Perfect!" She shouts then hands me some of her clothes. "I can't wait till everyone see you." She claps her hands. 

"Everyone in town is really going to think I'm crazy." I huff going to change and hated it. 

"Let me see!" Enid says excited so I show her and she explodes with happiness.

"I'm picturing how I would kill you slowly and painfully." I glare at her. 

"As long as you don't actually act on it, picture it all you want." She smiles as I head out while she gets ready now.

"I think you stick out wearing Enid clothes more than your own." Xavier walks up to me in the quad. 

"If you say anymore I will cut your hair while you're sleep in the night." I don't look at him. 

"Got it." He nods his head. 

"My family would have a heart attack if they saw me right now." I look down at myself. 

"I'm surprised you haven't broke out into hives." He chuckles so I look at him, 

"That's my sister if it's not black, white, or gray." I tell him. 

"If it helps any, you don't look terrible in pink. But I do prefer your normal style." He nudges me so I stare at him. "Why are you looking at me like that?" He chuckles eyeing me. 

"Picturing you with a shaved head." I lie to him before walking away to join Enid and Yoko. 

"You know he so has a crush on you." Enid giggles looking over a Xavier. 

"You really want me to kill you, don't you?" I glare at her before we get on the shuttle.

Once in town we all go to the Weathervane to get drinks and sit in a booth. As I walk up to Tyler he tries not to laugh at me, "Quad over ice." I tell in not in the mood today. 

"I didn't think you drank anything other than hot chocolate." He eyes me more. 

"I normally don't wear this either but here we are." I say with no emotion. 

"Why are you dressed this anyways?" He asks while he makes my drink. 

"Lost a bet to Enid." I look over at her chatting with Yoko and Divina, "I have to wear this all day." I roll my eyes. 

"I don't like it. It's not you." He hands me my drink. 

"Thank you." I go join the girls.

As we were all talking Bianca comes to join us, "Well look at you. Wish you weren't so cocky now, huh?" She sits next to Divina making me get a idea to piss her off, 

"Xavier said he like it." I give her a smile and the smirk on her face leaves. 

"Let's play a little game. Truth or Dare, Enid?" Yoko asks her. 

"Dare." She smiles. 

"I dare you to go over to Ajax and put your hand out to him and saying nothing. You can't leave until he gives you a high five." She giggles. 

"Really? Ajax?" She huffs so I move for her to get out of the booth. We watch Ajax be confused till Xavier tells him a high five then she walks back embarrassed.

The girls do a few rounds then Enid says my name, "I'm not playing." I tell her. 

"Backing down?" Bianca smirks. 

"Dare."

"I dare you to go kiss Xavier. You can make Bianca more mad." She whispers in my ear. 

"What you don't wanna do it?" Bianca eyes me so I get up from the table going over to Xavier and Ajax's table. 

"Hey, Valentine." Ajax smiles as I come up. 

"You okay?" Xavier asks looking at me. 

"I can't believe I'm doing this." I say before leaning down to kiss him taking him by surprise. Then he took me by surprise kissing me back so that's when I pulled away going back to the table where Bianca wasn't anymore. "Watch out tonight." I let Enid know.

As I sit I notice Tyler glance over at me at times with an annoyed look on his face. While the girls get up to leave I go over to Tyler, "Normally the look on your face is my thing not yours." I eye him. 

"When did you start dating Xavier?" He asks while working. 

"I'm not dating him." I laugh. 

"Why did you kiss him then?" He turns to face me. 

"Because it was a dare to piss off Bianca. I couldn't turn down that opportunity. Especially with her being his ex and me being one reason they broke up." I explain to him before get annoyed with how he was acting, "Why do you care if I kiss him anyways?" I cross my arms. 

"Why do I care? For starters the dude hates me." He walks to the side so I follow him, 

"I can't kiss because he hates you... That makes perfect sense, Tyler. That has nothing to deal with me." I let out a breathy chuckle.

"You give mixed signals, you know. that" He stands in front of me. 

"Mixed signals? I'm being nice to you-," 

He cuts me off, "So for the past months you've only been nice to me as a friend?" He stares me down. 

"Tyler... you know it's not easy for me." I start to feel conflicted. 

"Val, you're gonna miss the bus." Enid rushes in grabbing my hand dragging me out. "You okay? You look worse than your normal self." She sits next to me. 

"I'm confused about things." I look out the window. 

"Well you can talk to Dr. Kinbott in your session tomorrow." She gives me a smile.

Back at school Weems wanted to see me in her office, "I didn't do anything." I sigh walking into her office. 

"You're not in trouble Miss Addams. I have some news to give to you." She smiles as I take a seat in front of her. 

"Good or bad?" I tilt my head some. 

"I believe you you'll fine it as good news. Starting tomorrow, your sister will be starting at Nevermore. So tomorrow your session with Dr. Kinbott is cancelled. She thought it would be nice for you to spend the day with your sister and see your family. Plus she's reading up on her as well since she'll be seeing her on different days." She explains to me and didn't know how to feel. Apparently I don't know anything today...was it Enid's outfit clouding my mind or what?

"Guess my parents had no other opinions. I know she's not thrilled whatsoever."

"I'm putting her in Ophelia Hall as well. She'll be roommates with Enid." She adds. 

"Oh, she's really going to hate it here." I laugh before she lets me go. 

"Hey." Xavier walks up to me. 

"Great." I groan, "Enid dared me." I walk past him to go out to the woods and he was still following. 

"You did it to piss off Bianca." He walks next to me. 

"Precisely, Thorpe." I glance over at him. 

"I know you wanna ask me." He chuckles. 

"Why don't you just tell me? Why make me ask?" I stop walking to turn to face him. 

"I know it was a dare. It was obvious because of Enid earlier." He puts his hands in his pockets. 

"Then why did you kiss me back?" I ask like he wanted me to.

"To piss Tyler off like you did with Bianca. I knew he was watching. His eyes are always glued to you when you're in there." He says keeping eye contact with me. 

"I get it you both hate each other but why kiss me to piss him off?" I ask annoyed I was doing this with him now. 

"Don't play dumb Valentine. You aren't blind. He likes you more than just a friend." He raises his voice some. 

"Yeah, I kinda know that... but why do you..." I start to think why he has a problem with Tyler liking me other than just hating him from what he did to him. "Xavier..." I sigh thinking I get why, "You boys are killing me." I turn walking away going to my dorm to change to give Enid her clothes back.

"Here." I toss the clothes in with her other dirty clothes. 

"Talk to me, Val. You look hurt." She pats the spot on her bed next to her so I sit down, 

"No vlogging." I put my pinky out to her so she promises taking in with hers. "I never thought I would have boy trouble in my life." I lay back. 

"Boy talk!" She gets excited, "Tell me everything. Tyler? Xavier?" She shakes my arm. 

"Both." I groan causing her to gasp,

"Both? More details, girl." She shakes me more. 

"Tyler said I'm giving mixed signals. And Xavier kissed me back during the dare." I sit back up. 

"Who do you like?" She asks me. "Both... I think. Yes, I understand feelings and can read them but when it comes to me and my feelings... I don't know shit. It takes time." I throw myself back. 

"Then just keep being their friend until you know your feelings. You're going through some self changes so take time." She rubs my arm. 

"Thanks for being a good friend, Enid."

"You rang?" Tyler asks her making Xavier look at all of us then scoff.

"Want the usual?" Tyler asks.

"And help. Valentine, go change. You're coming with me." She tells me so I go to do that.

As I come back out Tyler tells me she's outside waiting for me so I rush to follow her. "So what's so important about this old meeting house?" I ask as we make our way through the woods.

"I don't know but I'm hoping to get something." She keeps it short.

"You know, I would love it if you kept conversations going for a bit longer." I sigh as Thing comes out of her bag. A homeless man back talks Wednesday so Thing scares him away. "By the looks of it... there's nothing here." I look around at the walls that were barley standing.

"No, I can't just touch something. My visions seem to happen spontaneously." Wednesday tells Thing so he tells her to ask our mother making them bicker.

I walk off as she touches random things to prove Thing wrong. "You two bicker so much." I say as Wednesday and I each open a door getting a vision.

We both see each other confused and an angry mob pushing a girl around from her other vision. The girl ends up being Goody Addams being accused of Witchcraft. We see a whole barn full of people considered an outcast before they set the building on fire but Goody escapes. I wake up and see Wednesday still out before for gets up.

"So the girl you're seeing is our ancestor, Goody Addams." I stand up then help her up. She hears a noise going to check it out but see no one. "Could it be the man from earlier?" I ask her as she looks again but the monster shows up making her back into me.

"Come on, come on!" She runs after it.

"You're crazy!" I follow her as she follows the footprints.

"The monster's human." She looks up at me.

"What the hell are you doing?" Xavier randomly shows up.

"We were following the monster." She stands up.

"You saw it? It's here? Do you two have a death wish or something?" He looks around.

"Maybe." I think about the positive side of dying.

"What are you doing out here?" Wednesday asks him.

"I overheard you say you were checking out the old meeting house. It's lucky I showed up when I did." He looks around again.

"We did learn one thing. The monster is human. It's tracks turned from monster prints to human ones." I tell him so he asks to show him but the rain got rid of them.

Xavier scoffs making us look at him. "We know what we saw." She tells him.

"I'm trying to keep an open mind." He tells us.

"Oh, so suddenly now it's okay to have an open mind. Why? Because you're still pissed I don't care what you think because Tyler believes us?" I see a certain look in his eyes.

"Grow up." I leave the two walking alone in the rain. Back in town it was sunny so I started to dry off from the rain.

We all gather, Nevermore and the town, to celebrate the monument of Joseph Crackstone to celebrate his memory. I make a face at people celebrating him but remember Wednesday's plan Thing told me about. I smile watching the rope on fire lead to the fountain. Everyone runs as the explosion happened while Wednesday just stayed and played a song. As she finishes, I stand up to applaud her.

Back at school though we both had to sit in Weems office. "That was a disaster. The mayor is furious! I've lost count of the angry phone calls, emails, and people in the town, alumni and parents. They want answers and so do I." Weems points her fingers at us.

"I would lead the inquisition, but I left my thumbscrews and rack at home." Wednesday tells her.

"Miss Addams... you're already on thin ice. Wafer-thin ice." She stares at her.

"I had nothing to do with this. I was with Enid before we all gathered together. I just didn't run away because I don't get scared easily and I stayed to watch my sister play. If you don't believe me, ask Enid." I tell her.

"I believe you, so you may leave now." She says so I leave the office going to my room to lay down.

Ty: My dad is getting on me about you and your sister because of what happened.

Val: I had no part of it... I just stayed because it didn't scare me and I wanted to see my sister play.

Ty: I believe you. I saw you and Enid walking around chatting and taking pictures.

Val: So I have an eyewitness for my alibi.

Ty: Yes, you do. But sadly he still won't care.

Val: I know. Talk to you later because I have to go help Enid pick out an outfit for her date tonight.

We and when I mean we, I mean mostly Enid, spend a few hours going through all her clothes to find the perfect outfit. "Enid, you have been modeling your clothes for hours and I told you the one you have on now is cute." I say laying on her bed with different article of clothes on top of my legs.

"Is this one too much?" She picks up a different shirt.

"Enid!" I throw my head back.

"Okay, this outfit it is. I'm so glad I have my date with Ajax tonight. Get my mind off that trainwreck of an afternoon. I literally think I have PTSD. I didn't even get to do my dance routine." Enid rants on.

"What a tragedy." Wednesday speaks up as she types her story.

"What kind is twisted psycho would want to sabotage such a life-affirming event?" Enid asks making Wednesday and me look at each other.

"You're going to be late." Wednesday adds.

"Wish me luck." Enid takes her jacket I hand to her.

"If he breaks your heart, I'll nail-gun his." Wednesday tells her.

"I'll hold him down for her." I add as she leaves the room. "Finally." I move the clothes off me to get up and put them away for her. "I'll leave you to your writing my dear sister." I leave the room.

After taking information from the morgue about the past victims Wednesday found a little pattern of the killer was taking parts of their bodies. I felt bad for Enid because she couldn't handle looking at the photos which made her pass out. I told Wednesday to stop showing her the pictures and told Enid to avoid looking across the room. At the moment we were in Thornhill's class and I was dozing off. The starts to giggle making me rub my eyes to wake myself up.

"Okay, okay. I know you're all excited about Saturday, which is why I haven't assigned any homework. But I do still need volunteers for the decorating committee. Anyone interested, come and see me up here." Thornhill tells the class so some students get up.

"What you're not going to volunteer? Aren't you pumped about disco balls and spicked punch? There's even a DJ. MC Blood Suckaz." I hear Xavier ask Wednesday as I get up from my seat to go over to her.

"I'd rather stick needles in my eyes. I'll probably do that anyway." She tells him as I get to her.

"Or you can invite someone. That would be fun." He chuckles and I see scratches on his neck.

"A word." She gets up grabbing my hand dragging me with her.

"You saw the scratches too?" She eyes me.

"Yeah, I was going to ask him about them but you dragged me away." I tell her.

"We need to keep an eye on him." She tells me.

"Do you think he could be the monster? No way." I laugh thinking about it.

"We can't be so sure. We need to dig deeper."

We end up following Xavier to his art shed so she could find something since he was hiding something. Once inside turning the light on we see he's drawn and painted the monster several times.

"How does he know what it looks like if he hasn't seen it?" I look at all of them as she picks up two papers.

"Xavier, you just became that much more interesting." She takes them with her as we leave.

"Addams." We both stop and turn to see Xavier as we walk away.

"Xavier." We both say his name.

"What are you doing?" He walks up to us.

"Nothing." I smile. "I just saw you come out this way and asked Valentine where you were going. She said to you little private art studio so I wanted to see it. Why don't you give me a tour?" Wednesday asks.

"Not right now. It's a total mess." He tells us.

"We shadowed a crime scene photographer last summer. We're not easily fazed." She adds.

"Maybe another time. Why were you looking for me?" He asks her confused.

"Because my sister here wanted to ask you something." Wednesday gives me a look confusing me.

"No I didn't..." I look at her.

"Yeah... About a certain dance that makes me want to poke needle into my eyes." She gives me a look staring into my soul.

I look at Xavier smiling at me and I was screaming on the inside. "Thanks for the spotlight... Would you like to go to the dance with me?" I ask him.

"I would love to go to the dance with you. Thought you'd never ask." He smiles even bigger.

Neither did I... "Great." I laugh then drag Wednesday away with me, "I hate you so much right now." I growl at her.

On the way ride back to a school I could tell Weems wasn't happy just by her facial expressions. "Your first day and you're already on Sheriff's Galpin's radar. Wish I could say I was surprised. Now, Valentine, you have been doing great for months. Why start to act up when your sister arrives?" Weems sighs. 

"I was standing up for my sister. And what did he mean about our father?" I ask because I knew he wasn't capable of that. 

"I have no idea, but I have a word of advice for you Miss Wednesday. Stop making enemies and start making a few friends. You're gonna need them." She tells Wednesday before we pass an accident and Wednesday says the man broke his neck.

"Miss Valentine." Weems stops me as we arrive at school. 

"Yes?" I walk over to her as Wednesday leaves. 

"Did you know your sister was going to make a run for it?" She watches me. 

"I had a feeling because I know how she is but when she came into the café she told me it ended early and you were busy on the phone." I lie to her. 

"And you believed her?" She crosses her arms. 

"Well we normally don't lie to each other. This was the first time." I tell the truth but also lie to her. 

"Valentine, please don't go getting in trouble with your sister. I understand she is your sister but you've been going so good here. I have big hopes for you." She sighs so I nod my head before going to my room to change out of my uniform into something comfortable.

Bored after some hours of reading in my room, I end up going to Wednesday and Enid's dorm room to see Wednesday talking to Thing, "When did you catch him? I caught him outside the nurses." I laugh walking over to her bed. 

"When I was writing I felt him spying on me." She glares at him. 

"There's no way father killed someone. If he did it on purpose he would have told us that as a bedtime story." I change the topic. 

"I know that's why I want to know what the sheriff meant. I want to know whole story." She sighs.

"Val, Xavier wants you in the quad." Enid pops her head into the room. 

"He would've just text or call me? Plus it's dark out." I ask her confused. 

"I don't know. Just go to the boy. I gonna go do some homework with Yoko." She leaves in a rush. 

"These people kill me." I get up groaning. 

"You choose to make friends." Wednesday tells me. 

"I know that." I leave her room going down to the quad. 

On the way there I bump into Rowan as he was in a hurry and end up getting a vision of him looking for a book in a library I haven't seen. I watch him rushing away confusing me why I would get that vision. Letting out a breath of air I continue my way outside to see Xavier working on his art he hasn't finished yet.

"Enid, said you wanted me." I walk up behind him so he turns to look at me, 

"Enid said that?" He ask bringing his brows together. 

"Yeah, I was with Wednesday and she piped her head into the room saying you wanted me in the quad." I tell him exactly what she told me. 

"I haven't spoken to her today." He laughs still confused and I get what she was trying to do. 

"I swear... I'm going to do something when she's sleeping." I huff shaking my head. 

"If I needed you I would have text or called you." He turns back to his work. 

"That's what I said but she said just go to you." I lean against the wall watching him. 

"If you knew that why did you still come?" He glances over smiling at me. 

"I don't know..." I shrug my shoulders, "I hear a friend needs me so I go."

"Well I don't need you but you're welcome to stay and watch me paint." He smiles and I can't help but smile. I loved his smile with his dimples. Oh my, did I really just say that to myself? "Has Rowen been acting odd lately? I just bumped into him. He seemed in a rush." I ask curious and I notice his body language. 

"Umm, yeah. A little. He won't talk to me about it." He makes sure not to look at me so I focus on him. "Please don't ask me anymore. It's hard not to tell you the whole truth. I hate lying to you." I hear him talk to himself. 

"You wouldn't lie to me right?" I cross my arms watching him. 

"Why would I lie to you?" He awkwardly chuckles. 

"I don't know it just seems like you are with your body language and the way you sound." I say so he turns to face me.

"I'm telling you the truth. He wouldn't talk about it to me when I ask what's up. He starts to get annoyed then raises his voice at me." He sighs and I could tell he was telling some of the truth so I just drop it. He goes back to painting and I sit on the ground leaning against the wall watching. 

Soon I start to zone out going into my own thoughts. What did I feel for theses stupid boys? Both are great friends and I connect with both but which one do I connect with the most? Xavier and I have things in common but so do Tyler and I in a different way. If or when I ever choose one how will my relationship be with the other? How will I know if I don't try see with each? How? How? How? How? I let out a groan making Xavier ask what's wrong. 

"Huh, just thinking."

"About what?" He keeps painting. 

"Me, my thoughts." I close my eyes letting out a sigh. 

"Tyler probably." I hear his thoughts. 

"Will you shut up about Tyler?" I get annoyed. 

"What?" He looks at me confused. "It's been months so get used to it. He's my friend whether you like it or not." I get up off the ground. 

"Why are you suddenly being up his name?" He looks at me like I was crazy. 

"Because you did first. Tyler probably. Yeah you kinda said that out loud." I lie to him. 

"I did? I thought I said that in my head." He looked lost. 

"Well you didn't." I kinda gaslight him so he doesn't know my new power.

"Valentine, what do you even see in him? Even as just a friend." He turns to face me annoyed. 

"I see a lonely person. Someone people don't understand. Being someone who most don't understand as well, I see someone I can talk to. And besides all that, he's a good friend to me. He's only ever been kind to me." I explain to him and he rolls his eyes. "You know, Xavier... You aren't helping yourself in any way acting like this. We butt heads over something stupid so I can't imagine us a serious situation." I eye him walking off done with him.

As I walk into my dorm Enid was getting ready to leave, "I swear I'm going to do something when you're sleeping you liar." I give her a glare. 

"Did you come in angry because of me or did something?" She asks me. 

"Both. He brought up Tyler again when I told him to shut up about him." I lay down on my bed. 

"He's just jelly." She says leaving the room. 

"Boys are complicated. That's why I don't deal with them." Yoko speaks up. 

"You and Divina are complicated at times..." I look over at her. 

"I said boys! Don't bring up me." She turns to face me causing me to laugh.

For my Wednesday session with Dr. Kinbott she makes me talk about how it is with Wednesday being at Nevermore the entire time. "See you on Sunday, Valentine." She opens the door for me to leave. 

"Valentine." I hear the Sheriff's voice as I make it outside the building. 

"Sheriff?" I look up at him. 

"I'm still going to keep an eye on you and your sister but I kinda know how you are from being here for long so just don't act up again. Especially with the Mayor's son." He gives me a look. 

"Again, I jumped in to stand up for my sister but I understand." I give him a head nod. 

"Tyler's on his fifteen. Thought you'd liked to know since you two are.. like... friends." He heads off so I head over to the café.

I see him sitting in a booth with his back facing the door, "Shit... no. No...no! Damn it!" I hear him thinking to himself so I walk over sitting across from him. 

"I ran into you dad." I startle him taking my seat. 

"What did he say?" He groans. 

"Just that he's still keeping an eye on me but since he sorta knows me just stay out of trouble. And that I'd might like to know you're on your break." I sum it up. 

"He let you know about me?" He gives me a funny confused look. 

"Yep, since we're... like... friends." I tell him how his dad said it.

"Like... friends? We are friends." He laughs, "You know, I thought you were mad at me because you haven't answered any of my text since Monday." His eyes scan my face. 

"No, no. I'm not mad at you. I muted everyone because of Xavier. He pissed me off and started to try to apologize." I shake my head then rest my chin on my right arm propped up. 

"Me?" He sighs so I hum a yes. "He needs to get over it. We've been friends for months." He rolls his eyes. 

"Asked what do I see in you? Even as just a friend." I look down at the table. 

"And you said?"

"I see a lonely person. Someone people don't understand. Being someone who most don't understand as well, I see someone I can talk to. And besides all that, he's a good friend to me. He's only ever been kind to me." I look up to make eye contact with him.

"You make this so difficult... You're killing me." Tyler thinks to himself as he stares at me making me smile. "What" He chuckles. 

"That stupid look in your eyes." I roll mine. 

"Why you staring into my eyes?" He starts to smile. 

"Where else am I supposed to look when talking to someone?" I tilt my head. 

"Why are you smiling so much?" He laughs more so I shake my head. "I thought we can talk to each other?" He leans onto the table. 

"You're gonna make fun of me or think something different than what I mean." I whine. 

"Tell me." He playfully kicks me under the table.

"I'm saying this as a friend, I love your smile and your eyes. Sometimes they get this like little twinkle." I explain getting embarrassed. 

"Saying this as a friend and when I first met you, I love your smile too. I could tell how genuine they are compared to the fake ones. The fake ones are nice too though."

"Are you going to the Harvest Festival this weekend? For us Nevermore students it's mandatory." I changed the topic. 

"I wasn't thinking about going but now I might have a reason to go." He says with a smile. 

"Well hopefully you make an appearance. Even if it's just for a second." I get up seeing my ride pull up. 

"Hey, try not to ignore my texts." He says as I start to walk out. 

"Can't make a promise." I send him a wink leaving.
