“Watch problem?” Molly frowned. Her brother was fiddling with it again.

"Dented it,” Fabian grunted. “The clasp’s gone—loose—or something.”

"How?" Molly asked lightly. But Fabian cut her a shrewd look.

“You know I can’t say.”

She glared, and he held her gaze, but she couldn’t bring herself to mention the scores of familiar names she kept seeing in the paper. McKinnon, Bones, Fenwick. She couldn’t tell him that she braced herself every time an owl came.

“I’ll fix it,” she sighed instead, reaching for the watch. “I’ll give it back the next time I see you.”

“Have I said lately you’re the best sister?”

“You can thank me by babysitting.”
