I need to tell you about the time I had a “snail patient”. Her name was Poly (I know snails are hermaphrodites, but they are femininum in my language, so I used she/her). I found her on a sidewalk and she was badly injured, someone stepped on her and she was missing half of her face. I don’t know why, but I decided to take her home. To be honest, I didn’t have high hopes, but she actually recovered. I had to assist her with feeding, I offered her calcium, she was in a small very simple enclosure so that she wouldn’t get hurt by accident AND SHE RECOVERED!

Her shell grew back and her face did too. But there was something about her that made me question everything I knew about invertebrates.

She knew who I was.

Even when she recovered, she wouldn't want to eat new foods unless I fed her. I had to rub tomato slices between my fingers, so that they had my smell or else she wouldn't eat them. She would be terrified if anything touched her face and immediately hide in her shell, but I could boop her and she would ask for more.

She didn't live long after that, only 3 years, but it changed my life and the way I saw small animals like snails. Maybe Poly was an outlier, a little genius snail, but still, she was a snail and she knew clearly that I meant her no harm. She realized that I saved her. She was the best pet snail ever and I miss her every day.

So yeah, I don’t think we should just write invertebrates off. There is something going on in those weird tiny brains that we yet have to understand.

Maybe I should stop telling people that I'm a biologist. I had a guy try to explain to me how Black and White people are actually different species because Black people can't donate bone marrow to White people and vice versa.

And I was like ???

Buddy, not every person can donate their bone marrow to you, you need an extremely close match, which usually means someone from your family. Like, of course that an Italian won't be a bone marrow donor to someone from DR Congo like what???

I tried explaining him that and he told me that all biologists are stupid because they just follow what Darwin said and support woke ideology. At that point I gave up.

You are so real for this. I immediately fell in love with Midsommar movie because it was the only modern horror movie that I could SEE the characters. Every other is dark dark grey dark dark. WHY??????

I know its been said over and over again but damn do I miss the way we used to light movies. Watching Inferno and the constant blue and red lighting is gorgeous. Idc if the source of light doesn't make sense. If I cant see whats happening the whole film isn't gonna make sense. I've never been pulled out of a movie due to "unrealistic lighting" but I have been pulled out for shit being too dark.
