Maturity is realizing the best revenge is no revenge. It's healing, moving on with your life, and being happy so you don't become like the people who traumatized you.

Success in your studies isn’t about cramming the night before or relying on last-minute luck; it’s about consistent effort and dedication. Every time you sit down to study, you’re investing in your future self. Remember, the small, daily efforts add up to something great. So, take a deep breath, organize your notes, and tackle each topic one step at a time. Your journey may be challenging, but it’s also incredibly rewarding.

There will be days when motivation is low, and distractions seem endless. On those days, remind yourself why you started. Think about the goals you’re striving toward, the knowledge you’re gaining, and the growth you’re experiencing. You’re capable of more than you realize. Stay disciplined, take breaks when needed, and don’t forget to celebrate your progress, no matter how small. You’ve got this!

about me

Hello, everyone! I'm Hypatia (she/her), a 20 year old university student from Canada. I'm currently studying a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics, which I started in 2021. I started this blog to discipline myself when studying (nothing works better then toxic motivation). I find that I tend to romanticize studying and when it gets hard I give up. Which is no good because, I'm not going to understaind everything the first time I learn it.

about academia

From the start, I was an actuarial science major but, I failed out of the honours program and am now in the applied mathematics non-honours stream. Which I was upset about at first but, then I realized how much I didn't like economics anyway. I still want to be an actuary eventually, and the applied mathematics stream allows me to take more elective if I want to. I really hope this semester onward that I don't have to repeat/fail anymore classes as my self-sesteem is quite literally in shambles because of uni.

Just finished a mini one hour cram session for my linear algebra 2 exam today. Feeling pretty good right now, gonna take a quick walk and crack through some more problems. Though I have been procrastination 50% of the semester, I do want to get at least a B+ in this class. So cheers to the upcoming cramming sessions (old problem sets) that I will be doing for the next couple of weeks.

QoD (question of the day)

What are you favorite ways t get yourself out of a slump and,how do you building positive momentum afterwards?

To Do:

Finish problem sets

Study for my actuarial exam

Start Python Kaggle course

Go to the gym

Daydream about receiving a love letter in a LaTex pdf

we are stem

to the little girl first discovering a love of science on a school trip to the planetarium

to the little boy who dreams of diving into the depths of the ocean and discovering the world at our shores

to the burnt out high schooler wishing their science classes felt more like the theorizing video essays they watch until 1am

to the premed student losing her mind over a lab report

to the grad student standing tall at his first conference

to the programmer fearing she won't be taken seriously in heels

to the biologist afraid to introduce his PI to his husband for fear of being thought of differently

to the doctor whose patients ask to touch her hair and mispronounce her name

to the chemist wheeling up to his lab station

to the artist who is an engineer who is an artist who is an engineer

to the thinkers, dreamers, worriers, gamers, watchers, theorizers, believers

all genders, all races, all religious, all nationalities, all sexualities, all personalities

stem is incomplete without us
