More Posts from Hyperfix-action
people with ADHD are valid and cool and I'm abouta say it, downright radical
An issue I’ve had often, because I don’t know how to be a Functional Friend

Learning that hyperfixation is an ADHD thing was a trip, but I still often find myself wondering if my own obsessive behavior is actually related to my ADHD, or if it's just typical of anyone who finds something they fall in love with; and if so, am I misusing the terms "hyperfocus" and "special interest"?
Then I'll talk with someone else like, "Hey, what do you think of [special interest I got them into a while back]? Do you... not like it?"
Them: "Oh, no, I love it! It's really good!"
Me: "But... you never talk about it?"
Them: "Oh! Did you want to talk about it? I'd love to! What did you want to talk about?"
And I just... have no clue how to answer that question? Like, there are no specific topics just... it's constantly on my mind all the time, just waiting to pour out of my lips and I'm constantly holding it back. But then if I let it all go in an excited rant, and there's no reaction besides, "uh huh", I feel like they're disinterested? I just cannot understand enjoying something and then just... turning it off in your mind and moving on until you come back. I cannot mentally compartmentalize like that, and my interest is constantly on my mind ALL THE TIME and...
...I've realized it almost certainly must be an ADHD thing.
me, every time i come across a post listing the symptoms of adhd:
