In time travel movies, when the time traveler asks 'What year is this?!?' they're always treated like they're being weird for asking.

When in reality, if you go 'What year is this?!?' people will just say '2024. Crazy huh.' and you go 'Wtf where has my youth gone.'

And if you ask 'And what month??' people won't judge you, they'll just go like 'SEPTEMBER!!! Can you believe it?!?!' and you go 'WHAT?!? Last time I checked we were in May?!?'

Gunsmith Cats (1995)

I recently got into the "Humans Are Space Orcs" genre of storytelling from PM Seymour's videos. This is my first attempt at writing something, so please enjoy!

A: Human, may I bother you about something?

H: Sure, go right ahead.

A: I recently discovered a game your people created. One of those...roleplays, I think you called it? The one with magic, monsters, and adventure?

H: Oh! You mean Dungeons & Dragons! Or as some people call it, D&D! What about it?

A: Do you think you could perhaps...teach me?

H: Oh, of course! I'll be the DM, or Dungeon Master. I'll guide you through the game and narrate things as you explore!

A: This game is one where you tell stories? Interesting...I would have thought that the game had deciding factors like a plot and pre-made characters and such

H: Well, there are some! But that's the fun part about it! You can use pre-determined stories and characters and NPCs, but you can also create literally anything you like in the game of D&D! The DM can use their imagination to create a world and story so that the players can make their own characters and explore to their hearts content!

A: Fascinating. How does one go about creating their character then?

H: Here, let me help you.

*Some time later*

H: There! You're all set! You have your character and their stats and everything else you'd need to play! *rummages around, pulling out a small pouch of die* Here, you can borrow this set of die.

A: *looks into the bag, seeing the numerous amount of die* What is the purpose of so many die?

H: Oh, that's for your actions. In D&D, you have to roll a certain die in order to do anything. And depending on the number rolled, you either succeed or fail the action, or I can come up with a different scenario if I decide to. So you'd say you were going to do something, and based on your roll, I would tell you what happens next

A: I see. This game continues to be more and more fascinating.

H: Yup! Pretty neat right? Would you be interested in playing a game?

A: Yes, I am very interested in seeing what you can come up with, human

H: Great! I'll come up with the story and I will let you know when everything is ready!
