The Alternative Model Diagnostic Criteria for Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD)

This is part of the section in the DSM-5 that offers an alternative diagnostic criteria for several personality disorders.

A. Moderate or greater impairment in personality functioning, manifested by characteristic difficulties in two or more of the following four areas:

Identity: Egocentrism; self-esteem derived from personal gain, power, or pleasure

Self-direction: Goal setting based on personal gratification; absence of prosocial internal standards, associated with failure to conform to lawful or culturally normative ethical behavior

Empathy: Lack of concern for feelings, needs, or suffering of others; lack of remorse after hurting or mistreating another

Deceitfulness (an aspect of Antagonism): Dishonesty and fraudulence; misrepresentation of self; embellishment or fabrication when relating events

Hostility (an aspect of Antagonism): Persistent or frequent angry feelings; anger or irritability in response to minor slights and insults; mean, nasty, or vengeful behavior

Risk taking (an aspect of Disinhibition): Engagement in dangerous, risky, and potentially self-damaging activities, unnecessarily and without regard for consequences; boredom proneness and thoughtless initiation of activities to counter boredom; lack of concern for one's limitations and denial of the reality of personal danger

Impulsivity (an aspect of Disinhibition): Acting on the spur of the moment in reponse to immediate stimuli; acting on a momentary basis without a plan or consideration of outcomes; difficulty establishing and following plans

Irresponsibility (an aspect of Disinhibition): Disregard for—and failure to honor—financial and other obligations or commitments; lack of respect for—and lack of follow-through on—agreements and promises

Note: The individual is at least 18 years of age

Marked by lack of anxiety or fear and by a bold interpersonal style that may mask maladaptive anxiousness (Negative Affectivity domain), withdrawal (Detachment domain), and high levels of attention seeking (Antagonism domain). High attention seeking and low withdrawal capture the social potency (assertive/dominant) component of psychopathy, whereas low anxiousness captures the stress immunity (emotional stability/resilience) component.

Okay, so I KNOWWWW I need to finish the Homelander fic!! I know.... I've just been through a hell of a writer's block. I am re-working some of the plot, since the newest chapter doesn't feel quite right (and I do tend to write filler once I'm stuck and I'm trying not to do that).. please bear with me. I will be editing today!! In the meantime... here is something completely unrelated and a lil dark that I wrote!

"Untitled - Mommy Issues"

Mother (noun): a woman in relation to her child or children. (verb): bring up (a child) with care and affection.

Malicious intent (noun): the intent, without just cause or reason, to commit a wrongful act that will result in harm to another. It is the intent to harm or do some evil purpose.

Sometimes, I have these unsettling fantasies about my mother.

In my darker ones, she's old and in the hospital, and I've driven up to see her in the middle of the night. I give her one last chance to admit what she's done - which she never takes. We argue - I accuse, she lies - and I feel myself growing darker and darker inside, until it happens: I reach my breaking point, and I go completely silent. She notices the change, looks afraid, reaches for her nurse alert button - but I’d already snipped the wires ten minutes ago. Nobody is coming. Nobody is coming.

I am smooth when I descend upon her, like oil spreading across the ocean.

It’s too late in the night for a nurse to come calling - and this hospital is shoddy and negligent, just like her; I’d made sure of that before I checked her in. There was nobody to save me then, all those years ago, and now there will be no-one to save her.

And so, with nothing but the yellow hospital light to bear witness, I take the pillow from behind her head, and hold it over her face, feeling the sharp tip of her nose against my palm.

I brace myself against her desperate jerks and press firm. I do not stop until I see she's lost the fight.

When I remove the pillow, her eyes are glassy, and I wipe a lone tear that rolls down her ruined cheek. Then I pull the hospital sheet over her body, and drive home.

you're so sweet! i'm no professional but i'll do my very best to offer something helpful!

the unfortunate reality is there's no one universal trick to writing. you just gatta Do It. and do it frequently! write badly. write out of sequence. write streams of consciousness with no mind for how the sentences read.

the most important thing you can do with your ideas is get them OUT of your head. you can't polish a gem before you've mined it.

don't delete the things you write! if you find a fic or a scene isn't flowing right or just doesn't fit where you've written it, put it aside. there's a good chance it'll come in handy later, or you'll be able to utilize it better at another time with a fresh perspective.

i have a whole doc called "odds and ends" where i hold onto moments or bits of dialogue that i've written but don't have a use for yet.

don't be afraid to seek validation! to paraphrase this tessa barron article, writing is performative. your story isn't finished until someone reads it. you'll never be done with it until it becomes real and complete to someone else. that's just part of the art! we write for ourselves, yes, but we also write to connect with each other.

read!!! in order to write well you must read. learn from authors who have more experience, more mastery over the art of storytelling and structuring their sentences. audiobooks count as reading, btw! it's so important as a creative to imbibe stories. i got back into reading published books around the time i started getting serious about writing again, and the impact it had on my style is SO obvious to me any time i go back and read my older pieces.

writing is fire and reading is fuel. feed your creativity!

PLAGERIZE. now ofc i don't mean this literally. but you absolutely SHOULD be freely taking inspiration from everything and everywhere. the reality is that there's only so many stories and concepts out there. what makes something original is the execution. don't ever be afraid to tell your version of a story you love. ESPECIALLY in fanfic! there's a reason fandoms are rife with stuff like beauty and the beast au's.
