I Never Had Any Cute Stories Like This At The Local Donut/coffee Shop I Worked At

I never had any cute stories like this at the local donut/coffee shop I worked at 😩😩

With Saint Patrick’s Day being today, I would like to share my favorite story:

I used to work at a bakery, and we would be especially busy from opening until school started in the mornings. Lots of kids, lots of green icing and shamrock sprinkles, lots of ā€œKiss Me, I’m Irish!ā€ shirts, lots of gold coin chocolates.

This one particular Saint Patrick’s Day, a mother and son came in quite a bit later than the rest of the morning school rush. He had a doctor’s appointment before school, or something like that. And it wasn’t until they walked in and saw all that green and gold and rainbows that they remembered what day it was. This sweet little elementary school boy was so upset because kids are mean and no matter what the teachers say, he knew he was going to get pinched. His mom barely had time to stop in to get him a treat and off to school before she had to be at work, and she was apologizing so much. It broke my heart.

Now, my hair has always been long—very long. That day I had done a cute messy bun and finished it off with what was actually a Christmas hair tie. It had green ribbons tied to the green-covered elastic, and each end of every ribbon had a bell on it. I had used it as more of a fashion piece than to actually hold my hair up, so after they had paid I stopped them from leaving and quickly took it out. I walked around the counter, and told the boy to hold out his wrist. It fit perfectly, not too tight or loose, and he smiled so big as he jingled it a couple times. His mom was beaming, and mouthed ā€œthank youā€ as they hurried out the door, the boy with a skip in his step.

His dad brought him in the next time, a couple weeks later, and he tried to hand it back. He said that he was sorry it was a couple ribbons short, but a couple of girls in his class didn’t have any green either, and he had given them each one to put on their hair ties too. I told him to keep it, that maybe he’d need it again some time, or need to rescue another damsel in distress and in need of green ribboned bells.

The last time he came in, I had taken off, but he left a cute little note with the owner saying he was going to miss me—they were moving—but that he had to give me something to remember him by, because he’d never forget the ā€œnice lady with the cookies and bellsā€. He had rolled up the little note and tied it with a jingley green ribbon.

Yes, I still have both.

Today is the first wash of the purple hairšŸ¤žI may be crying in the club later guys

I dyed my hair purple. Well, multiple shades of purple and an occasional pop of blue, but yeah.

My grandfather was up past midnight last night, crying and praying, because we finally told him I’m most likely going to be diagnosed with schizophrenia this coming week, then told him everything I’ve been going through for the last 2 years. He was asking the Lord to heal me, to show him how he can help me, and to give my mother the strength to take care of me and be my advocate.

We were hoping it would simply relate to my migraines or long-COVID. I’ve had more scans and tests done trying to find something that has developed, but everything has came back negative. My mother still thinks it could be the multitude of neurological medicines I’ve went through since the last few months of 2021. Not that we can rule that out or not. My doctor that’s part of a post-COVID network hasn’t seen these side effects or symptoms in anyone else, so they don’t think it’s COVID. Apparently I’m just reaching the age that these issues show up. They did say that it’s possible COVID sped up the timeline of the symptoms, and that’s why it’s gotten so much worse in such a small time, but can’t say for sure.

So yeah.

Just sos you knows, AO3 is down under a DDOS attack right now. They’ve been coming back in little blips and then disappearing again. It’s been several hours. (For reference, it’s currently 3 p.m. eastern, July 10, 2023.)

https://twitter.com/AO3_Status/status/1678468065070030856

The culprit (as with a few other DDOS attacks recently) is Anonymous Sudan, a group that is likely Russian, not Sudanese. The ā€˜reason’ they gave–that AO3 is ā€œfull of disgusting smuts and other LGBTQ+ and NSFW things,ā€ is thin and probably not completely legit, though still legitimately concerning.

The AS claim: https://twitter.com/FalconFeedsio/status/1678397195039526912

Reporting on AS: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-06-28/anonymous-sudan-does-group-behind-microsoft-cyberattack-have-ties-to-russia (you can use archive.ph to get this one, 12ft doesn’t seem to work)

As noted here, https://twitter.com/honeyskeleton/status/1678449598703050769:

DDOS protection is expensive especially for a high traffic site like ao3. And it’s uniquely vulnerable as an independent site without ads or other corporate support. SPECIFICALLY targeted bc of its queer works and yet ppl will still complain every time they ask for donations lmaoĀ

So, again, when AO3 comes back online, please don’t go hard with refreshing all your tabs. Please do remember to download fics you love early and often asĀ  you continue in your whole ~reading journey~. And please do support AO3 through a dono or becoming a donating member, if it is possible for you to do so.
