All The Hugs

I wanted to take a second to thank some of the lovely folks I’ve met in the past few months as I’ve delved into various fandoms. I say “some of the lovely folks” because it would be impossible to name each and every person who has in some way helped brighten my days. 

The last few months have been particularly hard, I’m burned out and most days I feel like I struggle to stay afloat. My anxiety is frequently in full swing, I have concerns about my health in general and to top it all off, my grandmother, who raised me from the age of 10 (and who I was completely attached to before that), has been suffering from some memory problems. They could be biological, they could be side effects from her medications or her health conditions - we’re not sure. We live together and so I’ve found myself either trying to focus at work or I’m home dealing with strange questions all the while feeling like an asshat for not being a better person. 

tumblr and AO3 have both become little sanctuaries for me. Sometimes I don’t get to follow along in series I adore, or read the newest fic by one of my favorite authors. I try and find time to binge read and catch up but it isn’t always easy. All that said, I just wanted to thank each and every person - tagged or not - for helping to create a place I can escape in for at least a little while. For sharing your amazing talents with the world. For being sweet and funny and so smart.

Recharging My Batteries

Clearly I’ve been slipping on keeping up with tumblr - which sucks because I love the people, the fics and the artwork!! “Real life” has been really taking its toll and I’ve mentally just been super frazzled. 

Thankfully, I work at an amazing place that treats us beyond spectacularly. A few years ago they instituted a “perk” that every five years employees are granted 30 days straight of fully paid leave, on top of the vacation days we earn every year. They call it “Recharge”. I switched teams right after my 5th anniversary and was so jazzed by my new work and new team that I postponed my Recharge. And postponed it. And postponed it...

Well I am excited to say that the time has come and I’ve decided to take my 30 days!! Well actually last Monday was my first day but my body has protested my treatment of it and I’ve been mostly sleeping and nursing headaches :P 

What this all means is I hope to have plenty of time to catch up on the amazing fics and artwork, to “harass” the wonderful folks with fic ideas or fangirl-ing! If anyone wants to recommend any authors/artists/fics/anything please ping me or comment so that I can be sure to check them out! 

I look forward to bugging everyone until ya’ll are sick of me!! And who knows, maybe my muse will play nice and I’ll even start writing again!!

Shout Out Sunday - Week 2:

I had a hard time deciding which imaginary boyfriend to indulge myself in this weekend. Poe? Bucky? Steve Rogers? In the end I figured screw it and dove into the GIGANTIC library that is @propertyofpoeandbucky‘s masterlists!

First, let me say I’m bias here (though I am for everyone that has been/will be featured here cuz they’re all amazing). @propertyofpoeandbucky never fails to perk up a bad day for me. First of all, the freaking tagline on her account: you cannot escape de poe always leaves me in stitches and with Oscar Issac’s voice in my head - what a freaking way to start! Second she is basically the queen of AUs, as such she manages to cover most of my favorite tropes with my favorite boys. 

I can’t even begin to name a favorite because I’ll feel as though I’ll be betraying her other work, but for those curious I’m going to have say for Poe:

I finally get a quiet moment to check out my tumblr and find THIS? How lucky am I!! Seriously though @i-said-goddameron I owe you a total debt of gratitude, you’re so lovely and you keep my Poe addiction well fed and I love the hell out of you for it. I also think you should copy write Hoes for Poe or there needs to be a collection on AO3 or something because that’s bloody brilliant

Shout Out Sunday:

My life has recently taken some turns that seem to have left me wandering around blindfolded in a room full of legos and dog toys (ever stepped on a lego or tripped on a honking duck dog toy at 2am while stumbling to the bathroom?). I am fully determined to find time to appreciate the amazing writers I’ve been lucky enough to find/befriend, offer recommendations to some of my favorite fandom hits and who knows, maybe folks will suggest fics/authors! 

The very first Shout Out Sunday goes to @disnerdmermaid! I spent my Sunday evening reading every Poe fic @disnerdmermaid has posted -- again. What can I say, I’m a sucker for whump/hurt/comfort and I feel like I can always count on a nice re-read of her “Fever” series!
