Yes, all my characters play a role and contribute to the story. However, first and foremost, they are people. I develop them as individuals rather than around their importance to the plot.

For example, Anna is hugely important to both the plot and as a connection to the reader- since the story follows her journey into the world. However, she was developed as an awkward, caring, but slightly detached person separately from that. Her plot moving forward is impacted by her personality, but is not the reason she is the way she is.

This is why I spend so much time establishing characters and relationships between them. Yes, there are some very exciting plot points of battle and danger, but the primary focus is always going to be on who the characters are, why they decided to do that, and how their relationships with the others impact what they do moving forward.

I write people, not characters.

Found this in the comments of Shaun's latest video on Andrew Tate, in which he talks pretty extensively about how important it is for men to find ways to be confident in their genders without trying to adhere to, or enforce, anyone else's ideas of manhood on anyone.

Anyway. I rarely see folks talk about the positive impact transmascs have on manhood as a whole, and I think it's important to acknowledge and celebrate that.
