I Don't Know If It's Just Me But I Highkey Dislike Annabeth. I Think It Has To Be The Writing. Rick Can't

I don't know if it's just me but I highkey dislike Annabeth. I think it has to be the writing. Rick can't write very compelling characters all together, but his female ones are all "I'm not like other girls. I don't put on makeup". From Annabeth to Thalia to Clarisse, they are all apparently "badasses" because they are not feminine. The only character who is feminine, Silena, is painted as weak and frivolous.

But my problem is with Annabeth especially because she is the lead female character. We are supposed to be rooting for her but it's really difficult because she is acting like a jerk to everyone. I can excuse her behavior in the first couple of books because she was younger but there is zero character development throughout PJO. And childhood trauma can excuse as much. For example, Percy had an even harder childhood but he is not mean to everyone around him. He tries his best to a good guy. Annabeth is just not trying to change herself. She is rewarded for her bad behavior even.

And I know that she is a fan favourite in the Percy Jackson fandom but I believe it has to be that the fanon!Annabeth is nothing like canon!Annabeth. Fans stan the idea they have created of her, not actually her. I say this because I have seen tons of posts that have her be so out of character, that it's basically a whole new person. This isn't something exclusive to the Percy Jackson fandom though (God, fanon Batfam is probably the worst offender) but it's interesting how certain fans refuse to even acknowledge this. But I don't want to be misunderstood so I want to make something clear; I don't think it's bad to have headcanons or even project on characters. That is perfectly fine and eveyone is allowed to do it. The problems start when people are so caught on to their fantasy that they don't want to see problems with the canon material and even go as far as to attack people who give valid critisism.

I do believe that Annabeth had potential as a character but Rick ruined her character. It's even worse when in the following books he made her only interest and character trait be Percy. It's all about Percy and the relationship. There are few moments that are about her and her ambitions, her life, her dreams but in the end everything gets buried under 'Percabeth' because 'Percabeth' is what sells the books and keeps the money coming. I strongly believe it's too late now to even attempt to fix her problematic aspects, especially since the fanon!Annabeth has prevailed and people won't accept a new canon, but it would be interesting to see Rick actually try to give her character development.

Guys every pjo/hoo girl aside from hazel and Rachel get on my NERVES. They seem like the would all bully me for wearing make up and liking girly things. I get those vibes from ESPECIALLY Thalia, Piper and OMIGOD ANNABETH (yes I'm an annabeth anti). I don't really have a problem with those girls (well except for obviously annabeth) but they would not be easy people to be around.....(except for maybe I do have a problem with Thalia (im not a Thalia anti but she is the EPITOME of "I'm not like other girls"). I don't feel like Hazel would hate me and other girls like that because she gives me the feeling of a very sweet girl who is all about self expression, and Rachel seems like an awsome friend and also a very artsy person (cannonically confirmed). The only reason I think that about piper is because she is like 90% "I'm not like other girls". But yea anyways STAN HAZEL AND RACHEL. I'll probobly make a post on pjo/hoo boys later

Yep, I’m always bitter about the fact they used an Avengers comic storyline for a Captain America movie when there are so many Cap comics they could have used instead. It was really shitty to hijack Steve’s third and final movie for more Iron Manpain™️ It’s not like we didn’t have three movies of his same recycled arc already. And to top it all off he was still the centre of attention in every movie he was in. I hope now that he’s dead we can finally get some movies that don’t revolve around him.

I was rewatching some scenes from civil war & the scene where Tony LIES to Steve by telling him that they’ll get Bucky sent to a psych facility in America when we know from the deleted scenes that tchalla had already got extradition to take Bucky to wakanda likely to be EXECUTED fills me with so much rage everyone likes to talk about how Steve lied to poor Tony about his parents but never talk about how Tony was going to let Steve’s best friend be executed or at least imprisoned after lying to Steve by promising to help him

Tony didnt actually care if Bucky died or not (until he tried to murder Bucky himself in Siberia). Sharon was the one who told Steve and Sam about the kill order. So the only ones who had anything even resembling an objection to Bucky being killed by the swat team in Bucharest were Steve, Sam and Sharon.

Tony lied about doing anything to help Bucky and getting the accords amended. He was doing everything he could to manipulate Steve into signing, something that even RDJ has confirmed. And since Tony didnt care what happened to Bucky he had no problem using his safety as a barganing chip, even though he was lying about said safety.

And Tony actually knew and saw what was going on with the people in charge in Berlin. He didnt even bat an eye when Ross said that Bucky should have been ‘eliminated’ (aka killed) in Bucharest. In contrast all we know that Steve knew was one of many taunts by Zola while he was trying to stall Steve and Natasha so that they would be killed by a missile which hit literally 1 minute later (I wrote a post about it Here ). Some people say that Steve actually had evidence in the file Natasha gave him at the end of ca:tws, but there really isnt anything to indicate that. But if he did have proof, then he would have even more reason to not tell Tony. It was either didnt know for sure or protecting Bucky. And I cant really condem Steve too much for either of those reasons. And also Natasha knew just as much as Steve did and she would have had less reason to not tell Tony, but I dont see anyone condeming her for not telling Tony. Why do they only blame Steve for it?

You would think that a team who has experience with mindcontrol, brainwashing, torture and abuse would have some compassion for Bucky, but we dont really see that. I get that they would be a bit cautious, but still.

I just saw an anti coach hedge post saying that annabeth would have never let a satyr with anger issue boss her around tell her that she is grounded.     Me : he was literally just worried for them since he thought they had been kidnapped and he also has the responsibility of protecting these seven teenagers and on that trip he just found out that his wife is pregnant. Why is this person so angry just because coach hedge is taking actions and putting both of them in line ,it’s not like he hates both of them or wants them to die . 

Also me : “reads the person’s username” ohh… that explains why that person is so angry . He ruined a percabeth moment.
