Something that gets me about Ruth's death is the character that dies with her. She spends Just For Once fleshing out this intricate, relatable, tragic woman that she becomes almost another palpable member of the play. Like. Shes a cancer survivor, her husband is cheating on her, she has two dogs that she love and the resigned heartbreak in her eyes as she sings about how she used to dance is so clear that as an audience we forget that she's actually NOT a character in the play. And I think this adds to the tragedy of Ruth's character because for five shining minutes we are able to witness this anxious character take the first step out of her shell before she's killed in an ultimately embarrassing (If funny) way. And with her death, we watch the woman she created get dragged away into obscurity too. And after the song is over and Ruth is lying dead on the floor you realise we didn't even know her characters name

Exactly. For example, dresses don't have gender, yet I get dysphoria when I wear them, even though I use any pronouns, including she/her.
the statements "clothes don't have gender" and "clothes can and do invoke gender dysphoria and euphoria for many people" can and should coexist.
"Are you a girl or a boy"
idk man, my schedules pretty tight :/
