Impromptu Bestiary Page, “Cockatrice”. It’s basically a chicken dragon. Literally the dumbest creature ever invented. I love it.

I can’t go to Hobby Lobby without spending at least $25. This is me playing with my new art toys.

Practice sketches. Thank God for Andrew Loomis! :O

Demon hunters. Happy 2019!! :D

Abduction. I loved working on this.

Casablanca!! I think I’m finally getting the hang of this pen and ink stuff. I really like it so far!

I’ve never used ink like this before. Nibs are hard... First piece isn’t finished, but it’s as done as it’s gonna get for now. I think it does what I wanted it to do. I like how the ink looks. Solid black is cool. The outlines feel too “outliney”, but whatevs. The other two chunks are ink blotches and a random ink blotchy face. Dig it?

Smudgy sneak preview of piece #2! We’re going places folks.

Sneak previews! :O I got it ready for inking. I’m glad I went the extra step to get it prepped, because it probably would’ve wrecked my schedule if I hadn’t.

Ooooohh, spooky! I love Lovecraftian Horror type monsters. This isn't the final mockup, but I have a solid sense of composition. Next step: define precise forms and outline shadows.

Taking time this month [a.k.a. doing a challenge with a friend] to learn how to use solid black effectively. My goals: 1) Produce 2 "finished" pieces a week, and 2) post progress updates daily. So every day I'll post a bit of progress, and hopefully by the end of October I'll have 8 finished pieces and a better understanding of black and white! Happy Inking!!

Another one of Brother Baston’s weekly drawing challenges! Woop woop! Concept for a “Cinderjaw”: A large, six-legged Abyssal Salamander, also known as a "Cinderjaw". The lower jaw of this particular type of salamander has two tubes which shoot a chemical dust, flame-suppressant, that can extinguish Phoenix fire and cool the ashes. The sticky tongue of the beast, which also secretes a chemical extinguisher, laps up the ashes and stores them in a billowing purple pouch hanging from it's neck, where the ashes cool and the regenerative cells of the phoenix are absorbed. Salamanders already posses some regenerative capacity (like the ability to regrow it's tail if severed), but phoenix ashes basically fuel and super-charge that whole system. Abyssal Salamanders are stupid, but useful for hunting phoenixes. More on that below. Phoenix Hunters are more like mages than warriors. They use runes to control the Cinderjaw salamander (which I forgot to illustrate) and to track and capture phoenixes. When a phoenix is pierced with glass one of two things will happen: the heat of the Phoenix will melt the glass and it will clog up it's organs, causing it to explode and die, OR it will cool down so much that it becomes sluggish and easy to capture. The second result is usually preferred by hunters, but what can you do? Anyway that's why the hunters use glass arrows. The thin pieces of glass armor and the ornamental glass mask of the Phoenix hunter, which they wear over short travel-robes, are enchanted to be lightweight. The armor is primarily designed to protect the hunter from a phoenix frantically clawing their face or heart, should they attack. Phoenixes are more likely to flee than to fight. Thankfully, Abyssal Salamanders are fast (because they have six legs) and are easily provoked to attack (because they're stupid), so they're useful in both instances, although occasionally, they're known to lash out at their rider for no apparent reason. They can travel long distances and don't have to eat very frequently, but they're easy to pacify because they like to chew on wood. TL;DR Giant, stupid salamanders with fire extinguishers on their face can eat phoenix ashes, and glass is the most effective weapon against phoenixes used by magical phoenix hunters. Boom baby. This is more in depth than I thought it would be...geez.

I may need therapy to deal with all these lips.

Can’t stop with these noses. I think I’ve cracked the code.

Noses day 2!! WOOP WOOP

More faces. I left the anger lines in this one.

Red Carpet looks. Who wore it better? >_>’

Design Concept challenge! This time it’s a group activity. Concept: The being they unearthed is a primordial deity. It "beckoned" the nearest civilization to delve into the planet's crust, offering the light of knowledge and advancement. Once they freed the deity, it flooded the world and transformed all of it's followers into pseudo-plantoid beings, who need light to live. The being feeds on the psyche; those waves which brains and living things emit while they're thinking and feeling, as if it were a type of light. The more creatures it can transform and control, the more eminent it becomes. It expands and expands until it controls the entire planet, and possibly beyond... It has a cloaked "Sage", who holds the "light of knowledge". This part of the creature is usually the one people interact with in dreams, visions, and even in person. The bulk if it's horrifying body stays hidden in the abyss, below the light.

WHAT is all that hair even doing!?

freehand faces, no warmups. =/ We’re getting there!!
