Ooooohh, spooky! I love Lovecraftian Horror type monsters. This isn't the final mockup, but I have a solid sense of composition. Next step: define precise forms and outline shadows.

H.P. Lovecraft quotes out of context which tear my body open and viciously rend my heart or stomach into shattered pieces at the amount of emotional weight charged behind them (also you should seriously read them in context too)

So there was this man, and he might have gone sticking his nose in some places it didn’t belong some time ago. He wasn’t a bad guy at all, just stumbled one day into an encounter with a reality-breaking, immensely powerful artifact he was completely ignorant of. Very shorty after he discovered this magical item, he endures a near death experience followed by the deaths of multiple people in his general vicinity.

Horrible things happen that seem inexpiably tied to the powers he’s suddenly found in his possession. You find out most of this backstory via the notes and contextual breadcrumb trail of clues that slowly hint at the fact that- oh shit. That’s you. You’re the dude. You’re the man and you forgot about it because the consequences of your bumbling actions wracked you with so much guilt and fear that you sought supernatural means of erasing the memories from your head. And it worked.

And what did you have to fear, exactly? Well, hostile eldritch creatures that seemingly have been brought over from another dimension, for one. Inconveniently, you literally begin to lose grip of your sanity and hallucinate even more potential threats if you linger in darkness for too long. Light sources are your respite. Also, no pressure, but apparently something really big is really pissed off that you still haven’t set the balance right and returned the artifact it was watching over, and it’s hunting you and it down for the entire story.

You come to terms with not only this, but also the fact that you are the cause of everything messed up going on in the plot and your selfish past has been the root of a lot of innocent people’s misfortune and suffering. Otherworldly forces, via the persona of an old man, have been pulling at your strings for a very long time to manipulate you into fulfilling a chain of events that would end up literally tearing a rift between two worlds as we know them.

Eventually you learn all you need to in order to confront the person you used to be and the malicious force you are helping, and that final confrontation presents you with a crossroads decision that will determine your fate and the success of the evil.

You can put a stop to the forbidden ritual, right the wrongs of your past, surrender the cursed item and atone before yourself and its guardian.

Or,

You can prove yourself spineless, selfish, and pathetic to the end, and see through the completion of the forbidden ritual. The evil force gets to cross through the created rift, and a happy ending is had by maybe one.

And also nothing is scarier than the thought of being in the water. There’s crazy shit in water sometimes.

Anyone else realize yet how tantalizingly close Dredge and Amnesia: The Dark Descent are to telling the exact same narrative just with a tiny pinch of variables moved around?

Off my chest but I hate that Cthulhu is the flagship lovecraftian figure I hate that all eldritch horror icons get to be compared to Cthulhu in our timeline now that it’s all called the “Cthulhu Mythos” and what for???

I got into HP for the short stories, but I did eventually get around to the bulkier, connected stuff, and honestly? “Call of Cthulhu” is one of the weakest and underwhelming examples of the guy’s work that I’ve gotten through. THIS is the monster that in huge part made Lovecraft a pop culture name? THIS story?

Like sorry not sorry but Cthulhu is a little bitch boy stuck in timeout. Yes yes, I admit he’s pretty cool in a vacuum and I guess the “that is not dead which can eternal lie” quote does go pretty damn hard. But put into context it’s just…. Eh… like, I’m not going to even touch the overflowing can of worms that is the racist overtones since it’s already-taken low hanging fruit at this point. I honestly just found CoC boring and anticlimactic because I made the mistake of chomping through so many of huge other monster stories first. Once you’ve inoculated yourself into the stakes of At the Mountains of Madness or gotten in the know on Innsmouth or Yog-Sothoth, you feel like squidboi doesn’t really throw much punch even for the amount of suspense that he does build up to. He’s the first and only otherworldly deity so far I’ve even read to be defeated and shooed back by mere mortal men- mortal men, ones that didn’t even know wtf they were doing or facing, mind you.

I have less than nothing against people who enjoy the story and Cthulhu, but I just want to know… why? More specifically why this one got so famous and influential for a whole genre of horror. Cthulhu is just not really even scary to me. Ephraim Waite is scary. Shoggoths are fucking terrifying. The lore of Elder Things are everything I never knew I wanted in eldritch horror, and their story was genuinely compelling. The Deep Ones I thought I got their gist and wasn’t so interested in before reading, and they actually pulled me in past expectation. Cthulhu’s like…. A “safe” to “euclid” class scp at worst. The Innsmouth plot is the real setting for the theme of serious danger that is plotting and bubbling just beneath the uncanny surface.

I’m not telling anyone to not read Call of Cthulhu, but if you already have and you didn’t really get the appeal and hype for Lovecraft, Don’t be afraid to try explore down a different branch of the Mythos. You might be surprised. If you did read and enjoy CoC, make sure you check out the other stories because in my opinion it’s pretty uphill from there.

A Cleft-Mouth Shark purportedly caught on rod by a young boy. In some areas, these wide-grinned aberrant sharks are considered a rare trophy as well as a delicacy.

This is fanart of the game Dredge! I really recommend it!

Other kids’ Christmas specials/movies: Santa and magic are 100% real and actually act in the world, but for some reason all of the adults and parents of the main characters insist on him just being the mythological mascot of the holiday. the workshop is real, the gifts and reindeer and elves are all real, for some reason Santa is hiding specifically from the same adults who teach children about him, or sometimes isn’t even really trying to be a secret.

The Chad Invader Zim Most Horrible Xmas Ever: There is never any indication whatsoever that Santa is real. By all appearances it seems like the idea of Santa follows the real world logic except everyone (minus the ONE child whose whole thing is a special interest in the paranormal) believes in him anyway. Mall Santas claim to operate on his behalf or in his name. World-renowned scientists accept him as an empirical part of the universe. Adults and children alike unquestioningly give reverence to someone claiming to be Santa and obey his every command. If anything, the concept of Santa in this setting is treated almost like a lost religious icon, a historical god that has abandoned the world, if he ever even existed. There is no workshop in the North Pole, and no real Santa comes to smite the impersonater god that usurps his image. The thing that thwarts Zim’s plan is losing control of the false idol. Through the power of alien technology, Santa is made alive and real, not as a jolly bundle of peace on earth and goodwill toward man, but as a sort of Christhulu monstrosity, returning every so often to threaten devastation on humanity if not appeased through the traditional offering of cookies and milk.

I'm So Sorry To Whoever's Waiting On "My Wife Is An Elder God" (official Name)

I'm so sorry to whoever's waiting on "My Wife is an Elder God" (official name)

I ran into some complications, like the digital copy of my script getting erased, so it's gonna be a bit longer before I can post the finished product.

Here's a little teaser of its current state, and the length the first episode will be

As you can see, it's a short-form series, so I can avoid losing motivation between videos.

If there's still a small fan base for this thing, I'd really appreciate your support and words of encouragement to know that this isn't for nothing!

My Wife is an Elder God: Episode 1 is out!

I went into hyperfocus trying to get this done with a call and some strong-arm encouragement from my girlfriend, @lilac-the-void-pup , which is why it's finished so soon after my last post -w-"

(If you notice any mistakes I made, no you didn't)

Be sure to make your choice down below for what happens next! You're in control of the story here!

Please check out the official @my-wife-is-an-elder-god sideblog for all MWIAEG-related content from here on out! The first episode was only posted here so that it would be easier to find for its existing fan base. Aside from the episodes themselves, I'll also post WIP teasers or take asks from curious viewers, as well as other things suggested to me!
