A Very Sad Headcannon

Warning: spoilers, major angst

*please complete the Twilight Book 1 as well as Yura and Gaku's book 2 before reading this post, mainly Gaku's*

Somewhere, there's an alternate world where everything is reversed. Koga's lazy and camps out at Kuya's place while he's out at work, Toichiro serves his master, Shizuki, but most importantly, Yura and Gaku aren't very close.

One day, Gaku came home looking pale. Yura didn't really care, he never really cared about his brother. With each passing day, Gaku got sicker and sicker.

Yura was walking through town when he could've sworn he heard Gaku's drum. But it didn't sound right. He went in the direction of the sound and soon stopped dead in his tracks. He saw Gaku, clutching his drum, the ground was littered with dead bodies. People's bodies. That was the day Yura found out about the curse. But, since he didn't care much for his brother, he didn't bother, until one fateful day.

Gaku's body couldn't handle the curse anymore and he ended up "disappearing" or dying. Yura came home that day to see a hand drum on the floor. When he picked it up, he could feel no warmth in it. It was just a regular instrument. That was the day he realized that he failed at being an older brother. He hugged the drum close to him before breathing in the smell of something burning. Drum in hand, he ran outside to see fires breaking out in Kyoto. He ran towards it to see the battle between Ayakashi, Onmyoji and Wraiths. He saw some of his comrades lying dead on the ground. Not knowing what to do, he ran. He was trembling out of fear and accidentally dropped Gaku's drum. He hadn't realized he'd dropped it until he turned around to see a burning hand drum behind him. Panicking, he held the drum as it turned to ash. He burned his hands severely and the scars make sure he doesn't forget.

Years later, Yura found his away into the cursed plane in hopes of finding Gaku. He ended up being tortured by his guilt. He fought it until he couldn't anymore. He gave in. Drowning in grief, he started becoming one with the cursed plane. His hair turned black and he found his place in this new realm. He wandered it for years and years before someone new entered.

No matter how many alternate worlds there are, they all share the same cursed plane.

When Yura saw the familiar face of his brother, he went running towards him before he was stopped by himself. It was another Yura, one that looked like the Yura that belonged to the world where this Gaku came from. Blind from jealousy and desperation, he pushed past the other Yura and went to see the other Gaku himself. But this Gaku wasn't alone, he was with an unidentifiable woman which we know as Futaba. He tried convincing the other Gaku to stay with him because of how much he missed his actual brother. But, he didn't stay. The woman had convinced him that Yura wasn't the "real Yura", which wasn't wrong. Yura gave up and let the other Yura return back to his world with his Gaku and the unidentifiable woman. And so, he continued to wander the cursed plane.

Maybe I should call this an au instead of a headcannon. But I do believe that this exists so- I'm sorry if I hurt you, Gaku's route is hurting me T_T 👍

They're the same person

At first glance, Yura seems like a total softie and Gaku seems like some cold-hearted jerk. However, that's not the case. Yura is fearless and cares about nothing other than his brother and the people he loves. He's brave and strong and knows where he's headed. Gaku on the other hand is fragile, he cares about so many things even if he doesn't show it. He treats objects with love and understanding because he knew that he used to be one. The whole development of a Tsukumo-Gami is a long process. They start off as objects, never responding to anything. But after being taken care of well, they soon take on the soul of a living being, being able to love just like how they were loved. I wonder if this could also apply to Gaku, not just as a Tsukumo-Gami but as a person, as a soul.

*SPOILERS ALERT*

So recently, I was able to play the main story again and after dealing with Asmo being affected by the Golden Hellfire Newt Syrup (because yes, I'm currently stuck on Chapter 22) I realized something sad. And so I present to you, my theory.

My Theory on Asmodeus's Physical Health

Has everyone heard of Broken Heart Syndrome? If not, read about it here and here, otherwise, I'll continue. During the lessons where we experience the effects of the Golden Hellfire Newt Syrup with Asmodeus, when we first see him in the hallway, he starts wheezing randomly.

We then go into his room where the wheezing worsens. He describes it as "his chest feeling so tight it's like he's suffocating". He goes onto say that he can't breathe and feels like he's going to die. He asks for his death wish to be that he dies in our arms after hearing us confess our feelings towards him. After doing this, he comes out to say that it was nothing but an act. He was faking it to be able to get us to do what he says. But I don't believe that he was faking it.

During this same lesson, he explains how lonely he was without us.

Asmodeus may be suffering from Broken Heart Syndrome. The sudden stress of us having to leave the Devildom and him being separated from us for so long might have been the cause to it. There are also two risk factors that he matches with.

Sexual intercourse. Asmodeus is the Avatar of Lust, he engages in this often. However, it affects women more than men.

A psychiatric disorder. I think by now that it's quite obvious that all of the brothers are depressed, including Asmodeus. People that have/had anxiety and/or depression have a higher risk of being affected by Broken Heart Syndrome.

Common ways of preventing or treating this condition is yoga and meditation to keep yourself calm. Asmodeus often practises yoga and his favourite music genre is healing music.

Upon researching Broken Heart Syndrome, I came across a good point; Broken Heart Syndrome causes chest pains which doesn't necessarily affect breathing. Asmodeus had difficulty breathing and tightness in his chest. There is, however, a condition in which the tightness in the chest affects the airways and causes difficulty breathing. This condition is asthma.

There is a fact that can prove my theory wrong. Asmodeus was quite talkative during those lessons. If you were really lacking air, you would focus on breathing as much as you can rather than talking. This could prove that he was acting the whole time. Still, he was talking with ellipsis which could represent the difficulty he had speaking.

Whether or not he has Broken Heart Syndrome or asthma will remain a mystery. Everything I just said could've been me putting random facts together or it could be pure coincidence. I would like to say one thing though:

Coming from an ex-actress, I've had to act as if I couldn't breathe before and I couldn't do it. Fellow actors of mine couldn't do it either. So, from experience, I'm lead to believe that you can't fake something like that.
