I cannot explain how much I find Kaiju No. 8 and its treatment of its female characters refreshing.

Like they just get to exist and be strong and important and they aren’t sexualized for cheap jokes and I didn’t realize how much I expected it till it didn’t happen. I was constantly waiting for it to happen and it just….didn’t

Like Mina is essentially seen as the superhero of their time and age, she inspired every single one of them to be there. It is so rare to see male characters (hell even mention in real life) actually admit that the person they look up to in combat is a woman. I kept waiting for the joke about them finding her sexy and it never came. Like they simply just respect her and are honored to be fighting in her division and damn that’s so refreshing.

They don’t even have boob armor like 😭😭😭

Listening to the theme that plays under most of the big fights in Kaiju No. 8 gives me the same emotional whiplash as when it finally clicked that Kai’s theme in Kung fu panda 3 was a Chinese instrumental of “I’m So Sorry” by the imagine dragons.

Really thinking about how the through-line of my most favorite ships is devotion.
