I think a lot of us know that The Axolotl is likely a reference to an Aztec God (Xolotl, god of - among other things - fire, twins, misfortune, and death) but did you know Xolotl had a twin brother himself? Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent. God of knowledge, creativity, and learning.
A scapegoat twin blamed for everything that goes wrong in life, who is connected to fire, and possibly even represents an old practice of sacrificing one twin's life for the other's: And a highly regarded twin who's domain is knowledge and is favored over his brother to the point of sometimes even having the epithet of "Precious Twin"...
