Nah, Fam. It's Not About "taking" Criticism. It's About The Fact That Unless A Writer Asks For It Specifically,

Nah, fam. It's not about "taking" criticism. It's about the fact that unless a writer asks for it specifically, it's a dick thing to do on a website that is rooted in community.
If a writer wants critique they will ask trusted friends or professional associates (in the relevant field). When a writer shares a fic on AO3 it's not necessarily with the aim of improving their craft (there are better places for that). It's about sharing joy.
Positive comments enhance that feeling of joy and community. Negative comments do not.
Fic isn't a product to be evaluated. If it's not for you, then you can just walk away. 😁

AO3 Etiquette
It would seem a whole new kind of AO3 reader/writer is emerging and it is becoming clear not everyone quite understands how the website community works. Here is some basic guidance on how most people expect you to go about using AO3 to keep this a fun community archive that funtions correctly:
Kudos is for when the story was interesting enough to make you finish reading. If it sucked or was badly written, you probably left. If you finished - you kudos.
If you liked it, you should comment. It can be long and detailed or a literal keysmash. Writers don't care, we just love comments.
No critisism unless the author has specifically asked or agreed to hear it. Even constructive critisism is a no-no unless an author note tells you it's okay. Many people write as a fun hobby or a way to cope with, among other things, insecurity. Don't ruin that for them.
Do not comment to ask the author to write/update something else. It's tacky and off-putting and will probably have the opposite effect than the one you want.
There is no algorithm, it's an archive. Use the search and filter function to add/remove the pairings/characters/tropes etc. you want to read about and it will find you the fics that fit the bill.
For this to work, writers must tag and rate stories. This avoids readers finding the wrong things and missing the stuff they want. I don't care how cringy that trope is in your eyes - it gets tagged.
Character A/Character B means a ROMANTIC or SEXUAL relationship of some kind. Character A&Character B is PLANTONIC, like friendship or family.
Nothing is banned. This is an implicit rule because banning one thing is a slipperly slope to banning another and another, until nothing is allowed anymore. Do not expect anyone to censor for you. Because of the tags system, you are responsible for your own reading experience.
People can create new chapters and sequels/fic series any time after they "complete" a story. So it's considered perfectly normal to subscribe, even to a finished story. You can even subscribe to the author instead just to cover your bases.
Do not repost stories or change the publishing date without an extremely good reason (like a complete top to bottom rewrite). It's an archive, not social media. No one cares what's the most recent, only what fits their tag needs.
Avoid deleting a story you wrote if you hate it - orphan it so others can still enjoy it, without it being connected to you anymore.
This is a creative fanfiction archive. No essays on your insights or theories please. There are other places for that.
I KNOW there's plenty more I missed but I'm trying to cover most of the basics that people seem to be struggling with.
I invite anyone to add to this, but please explain, don't berate.
This is the face of a demon who didn't think ahead XD
OK but Crowley's face when Gabriel was climbing out the window

He's like shit this bitch is really gonna do it
so you're anthony j. crowley, long-time exile from heaven and recent exile from hell, and you've finally figured out that the mess of overwhelming and infuriating and intoxicating feelings you've been harboring for the only being in the universe you've ever been able to rely on might, whoopsies, be something a little bit like love. but not love the way you remember heaven loved you, or the way they told you god loved you (they lied), but love like the humans do it: messy, and awkward, and incongruously infinite, and so, so fragile.
and, well. okay, you think. this'll be horrible. embarrassing for both of us, probably. but i'll tell him. you've never been a coward, no matter what the other demons might say. screw your courage to the sticking place, or whatever. macbeth. aziraphale loved that one.
so you talk yourself into it, you gather every scrap of courage and honesty you've got left, and you say, all right, angel, i've got something to say, only aziraphale's got something to say, too, and--
aziraphale doesn't love you back.
or. he does, but he loves the ghost of the angel you used to be, not the person you've made yourself since. he loves you, but he loves you like god did--loves you good, and quiet, and dull. he loves you without your grief, or your anger, without even that first bite of the apple. he wants you like that again, he says. defanged, like the Antichrist's domesticated hellhound.
(you worked for hell for a long time, and for god for a long time before that. you're intimately familiar with what it is to offer someone everything they've ever wanted, and then to twist it, to mutilate it, into an unrecognizable hell of their own choosing. you're not sure why it surprises you anymore. you're not sure why you keep letting the surprises hurt.)
and so you do the thing you've done since the beginning, because you've never been able to stop yourself: you push. you push hard, and you grab him, and he's so angry and you kiss him and you don't think about it, don't think about it, this is the most important temptation of your life, the only one that's ever mattered--
and he forgives you.
so you leave. at least that way you can do it before he does. you've always been a step ahead and to the left; stupid to think this would ever be different. stupid to think he might choose you, with all of heaven and earth spread out in front of him. nothing lasts forever, not even the stars.
he told you that a long time ago.
No OP, I don't think you're crazy, I've been screaming about this to my only other irl friend that watches the series how much I believe and down right just KNOW that Metatron not only has it out for Crowley for not following instruction like a good little angel and he was the reason that Crowley fell.
I mean, we don't even know why most demons fell (the actual reason, since obviously those that fell, including Crowley, were in the revelion with Lucifer AKA Satan), like Furfur seems half decent, and Eric is just a sweetheart all around.
I dunno, I'm really suspicious of the whole Heaven/Hell industrial complex, starting with the Metatron, because I do believe that there is a bigger reason for God to do what they're doing (with the whole ineffable plan TM) and it has something to do with free will more than anything (maybe if I manage to gather all of my thoughts cohesively I'll write a meta).
But yeah, I'm almost certain that the Metatron has his own agenda going on in the background.
The Metatron is responsible for Crowley falling.
In the first episode Crowley says that there should be a suggestion box so that they can advise God on their plan. The closest thing to a 'suggestion box' is the Metatron as he is the 'Voice of God' and a direct link to them.
So, Crowley makes the nebula and then goes to make a suggestion by praying or whatever and instead of talking to God, the Metatron answers Crowley instead. THATS HOW CROWLEY RECOGNISES HIM.
In the last episode the Metatron asks Aziraphale how Crowley took the news and he responded 'not well'. The Metatron then says 'Ah, well, he did want to go his own way. Always asking damn fool questions, too.' AND HE KNEW THAT BECAUSE CROWLEY IS THE ONE WHO SUGGESTED THE SUGGESTIONS TO THE METATRON WHICH INTERN RESULTS IN CROWLEY FALLING.
METATRON YOU BASTARD!! HOW COULD YOU, THEY WERE ONLY ASKING QUESTIONS!!!
Am I crazy?
