Haha remember back in Season 1 when we joked about how Amity almost always wore her student uniform, even when at home? Like why doesn’t she wear her casual outfit more, it’s cute and the necklace is so nice and-

You can practically see how she freezes up, and this boring demonstration becomes REAL for her-

And then!!! Hexside is kind of a safe space for Amity almost, because she doesn’t have to wear that accursed necklace and worry about Odalia barging in at any moment, either before or after, but never DURING school-

Like can you imagine Odalia just bursting into Amity’s life like that, and then making her wear the necklace? Basically marking Amity’s safe space, and forcing her to wear it for the rest of the day?! I felt genuinely sick at the realization of what that necklace DID, it really stains that cute scene from Adventures in the Elements with a bitter realization...

That necklace is like some sort of twisted leash, for Odalia to yank at and abuse Amity, and she can only wince and brace herself! Or just let it quietly pass and not make a fuss, because that won’t make a difference...

It’s genuinely horrific that Amity wears that uniform because even if it has no individuality, it still keeps her safe from Odalia, and then Odalia barges in and adds the necklace anyway, she invaded and invalidates that sacrifice that Amity made- So Amity, who’s finally getting sick of this, finally opening her eyes and realizing how this system is so fragile and thin and worthless...

DOESN’T EVEN LOOK AT HER I-

She decides, you know what? If you’re going to control me anyway regardless, then I may as well just be myself unapologetically and openly, because it makes no difference trying to appease you! Amity decides to live for herself, to live her own life instead of passively trying to be as quiet as possible! She’s becoming like Emira and Edric in how she doesn’t care and knows it’s all bullshit, so Amity looks out for herself! She’s disillusioned now!

Back in Understanding Willow, I noted that Willow had a more righteous fury and anger over her mistreatment compared to Amity’s quiet and dull resignation... And it was because Willow knew she had worth. She had the self love to be offended on her own behalf and realize she deserves better, but Amity didn’t have that! She just became internally depressed, no anger over being wronged because she deserved this!

But then Amity develops a dignity and sense of self esteem that allows her to be angered and offended when its hurt, she’s truly living up to that fiery motif she has, she’s finally had ENOUGH and it’s so beautiful! Amity can see the injustice and she’s no longer taking it lying down, she DOES have feelings about this and they ARE important!

That moment when Amity broke the necklace? Luz and her friends didn’t know about that- That was all for herself, no excuses or deflecting it as doing it for someone worth more than Amity, no, Amity confronted and admitted that SHE was worth getting angry over and defending as well!

Amity alone is reason enough to care, and she can be ‘selfish’ for once and not have to justify it with others involved, she had no one to impress but herself; Odalia made those messages between her and Amity private and isolated, so it shows that Amity really is only thinking of herself when she does that! Amity could be in a room with Odalia by herself, and she’ll still have the bravery to be angry on her own behalf! Amity recognizes her own worth and is finally now mourning the unfair pain she goes through!

Like look at her she’s finally so content and relieved in her own skin and with herself, Amity is no longer a martyr because she saved herself, and her friends saved her!!! It’s so meaningful that she has the support group of Luz, Willow, and Gus, who she KNOWS will stick up for her and do something- And Luz is someone who will involve other friends too if needed, like Eda and Lilith, even HOOTY! She is in a shot not just with Luz, but as an equal part of a group of FRIENDS!

Amity has not just herself to rely on, but others who can look out for her too, she doesn’t have to do this alone and she realizes this and tells Luz the same, I-

SHE LOOKS SO HAPPY AND RELAXED, her life has genuinely begun to clear up and she can HOPE again, and do things for herself! And no necklace from Odalia, Amity gets a lanyard that’s about her, it’s a photo of herself and her name, it’s Amity’s identity and found role in the library where she truly felt home and chose for herself!

It’s like this HUGE weight and pressure has been lifted from her for the first time in years, she didn’t even fully notice it until it was gone, and at first it’s weird and unusual and she’s scared but now... It feels good and she likes it! THEY make her feel good, Amity likes it- What does SHE think, she wants them and she wants to keep being happy! And that’s okay, she CAN have that! Just...

GOOD FOR HER! I’m so proud of her, after so much giving and self sacrifice, Amity FINALLY gets to receive! SHE’S FINALLY FREE!
