Kate started doing Gymnastics after she went to a studio open house and watched a bunch of girls doing cool tricks and just- baby lesbian panic

Kate gets very clingy when she’s sad, which is often, so it’s not uncommon to see her just hanging off of Chess with a pouty lip and furrowed brow while Chess is just sighing resignedly

Their gymnastics studio offered a summer camp for girls of a specific age and up. The first year Chess was eligible, Kate was still too young, so right before she left, Chess made them matching friendship bracelets as a promise to Kate that she wouldn’t forget about her while she was gone. They never took those bracelets off

They have sleepovers all the time, Chess does their hair, and Kate paints their nails, it’s become routine for them

Kate’s home life isn’t the best, and when things get to be too much she runs over to Chess’s house and climbs through her window, Chess’s parents will often come up to say goodnight and find the two cuddled up watching anime with the subtitles on and the volume off while eating a bag of chips that seemingly appeared from nowhere (Chess keeps a stash of snacks under her bed for these specific types of visits)

They made a pact when they were in 3rd grade that one day, they would move in together and get 5 dogs of all different breeds because “all dogs are amazing Checkers, how can we pick just one?!”

They were each other’s first kiss, when they were around 8 and 9 years old, after they watched a sappy romance movie and got curious, Chess brings it up from time to time and Kate just blushes

Kate goes to Clark for relationship advice because if anyone knows how to treat a girl right, it’s the high school senior that’s been dating the same girl for 6 years without many issues

Clark is one of the first people Kate comes out too and vice versa (trans Clark my baby)

Chess and Annleigh both hate conflict so when Kate and Farrah start fighting Clark is the one who steps in as a moderator to try and calm things down

They both go nuts during pride month. It’s starts with them both just getting each other mini flags on the first day, and slowly escalates to just leaving little rainbows and things everywhere for the other to find; they turn it into a competition and get the other Tigers involved

Back in elementary and middle school, they were pretty close. Chess and Clark became pretty good friends since they’re in the same grade, which meant Kate (and also Annleigh) would be brought into the equation more often then not

They like to gush about pretty girls together (and later their pretty girlfriends)

Mattie is kind of scared of Kate at first, Kate isn’t the most approachable person, she’s very closed off to most people and looks pretty angry a lot of the time

It isn’t until they’re partnered up for tricks during practice (Kate as a base and Mattie as a flyer) that Mattie starts to warm up to her. They get set up for a stunt and Mattie starts shaking like a leaf, so Kate stops for a second and checks in with her, helps her calm down and relax a little so she doesn’t botch her fly and hurt herself.

After that, Kate becomes very protective of Mattie, if anyone at school tries to pick on her, Kate is there to scare them off and cheer Mattie up

They’re a pretty good stunt team during routines, since Kate is too big to be a flyer but really too small to lift most of the other girls, and Mattie is tiny enough that she can boost her up easily

Wow everybody wants Kate headcanons today, well ask and ye shall receive! Kateva headcanons for my beloved lesbians!!

Eva plays the guitar, and she sometimes writes small songs or comes up with wordless tunes just for Kate

They both like to play with each other’s hair, whether it’s simply Eva winding a couple strands around her finger or Kate running her fingers through it while Eva has her head in her lap

Corny jokes that turn into challenges of who can come up with the worst pick up lines imaginable

Constant physical affection (holding hands, hugging, kisses on the cheek, forehead, nose, hand, lips)

Movie marathons (usually horror movies or sci-fi) on weekends that always end with cuddling and falling asleep on the couch

Even though Eva is taller (a fact she loves to hold over Kate’s head (pun intended)) Kate loves giving her piggy back rides and will occasionally surprise attack Eva and just scoop her up into a bridal carry (Eva loves her tiny strong girlfriend)

- it took farrah a long time to warm up to reese

- obvs there's an age difference so they're rarely in classes together and they have significantly different personalities - farrah has angst, reese also has angst but it's different angst

- but then

- no one:

riley pairing up the team for warm ups: reese n farrah aka dream team go warm up together

- "hey." "hey." "uh, so- stretches?" "sure."

- it's quiet at first and maybe a little bit awkward but kind of comfortable awkward. it stops being awkward when they coincidentally go down into the splits at exactly the same time

- "dude!!! did you see that??" "that was sick omg wait let's do it again"

- and from there: giggles over in sync splits, casual chatting about farrah's bullshit maths teacher, casual chatting about reese's talent, they're not besties from that moment but they're friends, they now know they have someone on the team to talk to just normally

- farrah likes reese because she, unlike most of the team, doesn't focus in on farrah's alcohol problem. farrah gets the idea that reese is friends with her just because she wants to be and not out of pity or sympathy or worry (and she's right - reese likes farrah cause she's funny and snarky and, even with the addiction, still a valid and worthy companion)

- annleigh, after practice: hey soz guys i gotta rush, clark wants help w his psychology work

riley: oh!! haha!!! that's fine!!!

I shoulda known if anyone was gonna ask for cheerwives it would be you Oll, so here ya go!

Similar to Kate and Ches, they’re always having sleepovers (pillow fights are necessary for the full experience)

Riley’s parents are never home so she likes going over to Cairo’s house for dinner, the Adekoya’s are so used to it that Riley has her own designated spot at the meal table

They drive to Starbucks and get tea after practice, every time, no exceptions

Cairo likes to steal Riley’s bow from time to time, she’ll just walk by and pluck it right off her ponytail, Riley pretends to be annoyed but she secretly loves seeing Cairo clip it into her own hair (to Riley it’s like the equivalent of having your girlfriend wear your clothes)

They’ve been going to the same summer cheer camp since 6th grade, they had their first kiss (and many other kisses) while canoeing

Eva loves stealing Kate’s hats, she’ll just grab it off her head and run away, and Kate both loves and hates it, she hates that it messes up her hair and also because she just likes her hats, but she loves the big smile that Eva gets whenever she does it, and loves hearing her laugh as she runs away (and also loves hearing her shriek when Kate inevitably catches up)

Riley and Reese? That’s one you don’t see often, but I’m up for the challenge!

Reese looks up to Riley a lot, but she’s also kind of jealous of her, Riley is everything Reese wants to be, it’s understandable

She’s grateful that Riley let her be on the team, and I think that kind of sets Riley apart a little for her, she’s one of the first people to look past Reese’s weight and see the talent underneath

I think Riley admires Reese in a way, she sees how talented Reese is and how dedicated to cheer she is

Riley is also a little intimidated but Reese, because she knows how much Reese wants to be captain, and deep down she knows Reese would be so much better at it than her

Yet another Kate ask 😆 I’m glad people love her as much as I do!

It’s already kind of been established that Riley thinks Kate is annoying, and I feel like Kate kind of already knew Riley didn’t like her, so she prides herself in being as obnoxious as possible specifically to get on Riley’s nerves

As much as Riley doesn’t like Kate, she knows she’s a valuable asset to the team, and that makes things even more difficult, because as much as she wants to kick her out and be done with it, they need Kate

The one thing Kate and Riley can agree on is that tricks are the most fun part of cheer, getting to do fun flips and splits and stuff make all the drama and conflict bearable

Riley had to give Kate a ride home from practice one day because Chess was out sick and her parents couldn’t come, nobody else stepped forward so Riley took it upon herself as captain to help

The car ride was pretty awkward until Kate took the aux and started one of her playlists

It is at that moment that Riley realizes they both listen to Girl in Red

That car ride starts a quiet agreement that “yes we hate each other but also wlw solidarity demands that we not commit homicide”

Annleigh braids Farrah’s hair for her

When Farrah and her dad moved in with the O’Daniels, Farrah’s cat took a liking to Annleigh and Annleigh’s dog took a liking to Farrah, they’ve essentially swapped pets

Farrah is better at makeup, since Annleigh wasn’t allowed to use it for a very long time, so Farrah does her makeup for games and competitions and dates with Clark

When Annleigh has a bad day/when Farrah comes home drunk, one of them will drag their bedding into the other’s room and they’ll have a mini sleepover

After the fall, Annleigh was the only person Farrah would trust to lift her (once she finally becomes comfortable doing stunts again)

Just plain Kate headcanons? My favorite!

Kate has really bad spacial awareness, she will on average hit someone with a pompom during practice at least once a week, to the point that nobody on the team feels safe until someone gets hit.

ADHD Kate my beloved

Kate has an entire collection of fidgets and she takes a different one to school every day

When Kate has a bad day, Chess will get her a small fidget to add to her collection, which always cheers her up

Kate loves cuddles, and loves it when Eva just comes up behind her and hugs her for no particular reason, it makes her brain go brrrr

Visual stimulation is very important for Kate, if she doesn’t have something interesting she can look at her mind will just drift away and it can take literal hours to get her back

No matter the body of water (pool, ocean, lake), if Kate goes swimming, she is always wearing a waist wrap, usually a green one, she calls them her water flannels

Kate’s heart did a momentary reset the first time she saw Eva and she cried about it later because she hadn’t had feelings for anyone since Chess, and she felt really guilty about it

Some headcanons for my favorite lesbian nerd, Eva Sanchez!

Eva has three younger siblings, two sisters and a brother

Eva’s s basically another mom to her siblings since their real mom is always working to support them

Her brother called her “mama” and Eva didn’t talk for a whole week

She forced their mom to actually be a mom after that day

Eva loves science, we know that, but she also got into English literature after meeting Kate

She started reading a bunch of classic books so she and Kate could talk about it

Awkward Lesbian (trademark pending)

Eva’s dad was in the military

He suffered from PTSD and ended up turning to drugs because of it

He died of an accidental drug overdose

Eva is very active in helping people who struggle with addiction because she doesn’t want to see others end up like her dad

Kate’s dyslexic, which is why she doesn’t do so well in school

She’s smart, she just can’t read

Cairo acts like she doesn’t care, but she will literally fight anyone who messes with the other Tigers, especially Riley

Cairo’s parents are very homophobic so she is super in the closet, it’s part of the reason she picks on Kate so much, she’s jealous that Kate gets to be out and proud of who she is

Cairo has an older brother who’s gay, their parents kicked him out, which drove poor Cai even further into the closet

She starts to get really bitchy after Kate and Eva start dating, and when Kate finally confronts her about it, Cairo kind of blows up at everyone and outs herself in the process, then doesn’t talk to anybody for weeks after

Riley ends up having to explain the situation to the rest of the team for Cairo’s own safety and everyone immediately is ready to throw down with her parents

When Cairo does come out, her parents react much the same way they did with her brother, and she ends up moving in with Riley (her parents are never home anyways, they wouldn’t notice)

Fashion ✨i c o n✨

Basically dresses everyone for prom (by that I mean she gives critiques on everyone’s outfits when they go shopping, and helps everyone find something that they look best in)

Cairo’s the one who convinces Kate it’s okay for her to wear a suit (and Eva too), and helps them both look their most dapper (she tried to put Kate in a bow tie and almost lost an arm in the process)

(Kate did not wear the bow tie)

Riley asks to be her date, and Cairo almost has a heart attack as she tries to process the situation

When they first show up, people think they’re both just going stag because they couldn’t get dates, and it’s not until Cairo kisses Riley in the middle of a slow dance that anyone who isn’t a Tiger realizes they are actually there together

Riley’s parents are away so often, she has often claimed she would forget what they look like if not for the few pictures of them in her house

Riley had to learn how to answer the door and properly accept deliveries from a very young age, and many postal people were very surprised (and a little concerned) to be greeted by an incredibly polite nine year old

Riley and Cairo do the classic climbing through each other’s windows instead of using doors like normal people

Riley never really put a definite label on her sexuality, she knows she’s had crushes on guys but she also knows that she really likes Cairo

Most definitely had a crush on Eva, something Kate is very aware of, and absolutely hates

Riley has a hard time interacting with other people besides Cairo because she never learned the basics of socializing from being stuck in a house by herself for so long

Sorry most of these are kinda sad, it’s what I think of when I think about her

WATT character headcanons: nail polish

Mattie: matching nails and toenails

Annleigh: all the shimmer shades

Riley: glitter polish and glitter polish only

Cairo: acrylic nails, always and forever

Kate: owns one(1) bottle of black nail polish and uses only that bottle

Chess: paints her nails in alternating colors

Reese: uses a combination of matte polished with either glitter or shimmer top coats

Farrah: buys pre-colored acrylics and then paints over them with her own colors, Annleigh hates it

Eva: puts on a random nail polish and then picks it off within a few hours

Clark: prefers pastel shades, but will wear literally whatever Annleigh decides to put on him
