Amidst Night and Moonlight

It wasn’t unusual that Atsushi was called out to drag his drunken mentor back to the dorms, nor was it he’d bump into Akutagawa along the way, doing the same for his drunken executive. But what was unusual was the fact they were at a bustling club rather than those holes in the wall bars.

“Can you see them?” Atsushi calls from beyond the loud music. But given that the raven was squinting, slowly scanning the areas and specifically the bar, he couldn’t. He sighs in defeat as they fall back to stand at the wall, keeping together amidst the crowded building. “Think they ditched and are off somewhere?” he guessed.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if this entire thing was planned.”

“You think they planned this drunk?”

“Do you want me to answer that?”

“Definitely not.” Atsushi sighs again and looks towards the dance floor.

The music was ear piercing and the lights were blaring, but even then, he could tell that they were enjoying themselves, drunk or not. He glances over at Akutagawa who more or less was looking at his phone, squinting at the screen. They’re here, may as well try…

Atsushi nudged the other and held up a hand, a silent offer. Akutagawa stared at it for a moment before scowling and returned back to looking at his phone, but Atsushi knew he didn’t mean it. It was more softer than his usual scowls or glares, and given the fact that the other pressed closer that he was leaning on the detective, it was a silent apology.

Atsushi just quietly smiled, although it may look more resigned from an outside perspective. He knew that the other would reject, given that it was such a crowded place. He supposed that he wanted to try to break that barrier of vulnerability on Akutagawa’s part. Maybe another night, he sighs to himself, closing his eyes to rest them from the lights.

He felt a nudge and he looked over in time to Akutagawa grabbing his arm and they hugged the wall as they exited the club through the back entrance. “W-Wait a sec, what about-”

“There was no point in being in there for longer if the people we’re finding aren’t in the building.” Akutagawa pointedly scowled. Atsushi just nervously smiled at that and decided to just follow the other’s lead. He seemed to know where to go, or at least had a destination. Wonder where it’ll be. Looking over, Akutagawa continued walking, keeping his gaze straight ahead.

“Akutagawa?”

Silence.

Atsushi looked at him for a moment longer before sighing to himself and looked around, before raising an eyebrow. Where were they?

His ametrine sunset eyes flickered and shone a bright gold color, purple pupils dilating to large orbs as he surveyed the area. Yokohama International Passenger Terminal…? Before Atsushi could ask what was going on, he yelped when his hands were suddenly grabbed and pulled forward.

With a stumble, he catches himself in time to be centimeters away from Akutagawa’s face, just barely seen under the bright moonlight. Atsushi stares at Akutagawa’s face before smiling quietly and shifting his hands to rest on their shoulders, feeling Akutagawa’s rest on his waist. Amidst the moonlight and the gentle crashing of the waters against the harbor, they swayed to a silent rhythm, their foreheads pressed and serene smiles on their faces.

“I’m sorry…” Akutagawa whispers, keeping his eyes closed.

Atsushi chuckles, “It’s okay. I should’ve figured you wouldn’t want to dance in that place.”

“And you’re not mad?”

“Why would I be?”

Silence, but Atsushi smiles at the sight of the other’s quieter one.

“Thank you for understanding me,” he whispers and takes a step forward. Atsushi yelped, his arms frantically wrapping around the other’s shoulders as he was dipped backwards, only one leg was planted on the ground, the other awkwardly up in the air.

Instantly his face rushes red before he lets out a barely concealed laugh, shoulders shaking and Akutagawa just follows suit, although a bit better than Atsushi and they share a kiss before Akutagawa pulls Atsushi back up and they resume, hand in hand. Before they knew it, they walked along the passenger terminal’s grounds, full of ballroom dancing.

Close by, both Chuuya and Dazai watched while recording the entire thing.

“I win the bet, Mackerel~” Chuuya snickers ominously, holding his phone as he records the sweet scene before them.

Dazai just silently parroted in a mocking tone and pouted the rest, bringing up his night vision binoculars to watch the pair as they continued dancing amidst the night and moonlight.

(A/N): why did i post this in the first place? well- this tiny itty-bitty fic was more or less inspired by this post by @k0t3x-n3t! Thank you for letting me write this tiny thing! Thank you for reading! (really bout to out myself with that singular catchphrase that i do on ao3 hm-)

random thought, and please correct me if i'm wrong about this:

If fyodor kills himself with his ability and all that, would it actually become a singularity instead of fyodor just... blipping out and back into existence? (but isn't that also a singularity??? that the whole thing just cancels out on eachother/itself??????) MEANING that if SOMEHOW they managed to outsmart fyodor this time and trick him into actually killing himself, then does that mean that the joke of dazai punching him once and he go poof actually work???

welcome to the rambles of a bsd fan but also not because i have not watched the anime because im scared and short attention span and also the manga cause im poor- (that and this thought kept running laps in my head since the chapter had come out and i know enough to understand a bit about things and worldbuilding)

yknow what. Human Abilities AU where people's abilities are just... their own person. similar to a modern au but the abilities are also there but as actual people ^^ starting with sskk and skk! (am i making it into yin-yang w|w and double black m|m? maybe. i dont know myself. i think.)

byakko would be the strict but motherly protective tiger that i headcanon her to be. very protective of atsushi since he still goes through hell in an orphanage, and really, she has no filter but is nice enough to place one on for... five minutes. voice claim... ethereal but monotone. my girl's blunt. ex: tigress from kung fu panda rashomon would likely act similar to aku in a sense, but... more teasing. she likes to rile byakko up, but those happen on, like, a good day. which is one out of... two-three weeks. but similar to byakko, she's protective of the siblings very much, and can and will spoil those two with sweets since the whole slums situation. now her voice claim would likely have an elegant voice compared to byakko, yet both have the same bite. ex: yae miko from genshin impact but toned down. --- how these two interact... hm. probably how atsushi and aku were from day one in canon, they hated each other. but it could go two ways: where they catch fists or egged on by rashomon's teasing... "or is she threatening?" <- byakko. but after some time, from hating each others guts when on site and also not, it more or less evolves to them... liking each other's company. byakko helps rashomon regarding seeing things in other perspectives, however blunt they are. and rashomon helps byakko with the social cues. neither of them are the talkers, but when its just them two, no words would be spoken and yet they just understand what they need.

now for no longer human, whom i shall call "null". null is... silent. the silent eerie character that rarely talks but is just... there. not much cues in his blank and expressionless face, and his posture is solemn and tight. he acts much similar to 15!dazai but more melancholic. he took the brunt of whatever happened in his and dazai's childhood, he's a lot more mature than that. his voice claim would be a deep voice, could be heard as monotone or angry to strangers, but with those who's familiar with him, it's just... calming. ex: the horse from the boy, the mole, the fox, and the horse. for the tainted sorrow, or more or less arahabaki... he's basically a chuuya but more destructive, and he doesn't want to slow down. but when it comes to null, its either that he has to be in pace with the other or he can and will drag them. they don't care. but of course, others wonder why he cares so much for null if its said that he doesnt care at all. now some might say that no one could manage to understand him, others would say that he might speak riddles. a sort of ethereal tone, and it's oddly pitched. possible ex: sphinx from dragons dogma 2. --- this one's different, how they interact. basically: arahabaki would try and egg null on, get them riled up, but for the sake of proving the man wrong in his own point. it's unfortunately that both null and dazai have that sense of not being human. and while chuuya has his own way in showing dazai he has a life worth living, arahabaki's situation is a more difficult one. because null's more observant and quiet, the man likely has several scenarios going through his head on what's to happen, and has definitely figured out what arahabaki's planning on doing and avoided it with some certain word of phrase. so, arahabaki turns those words against null. two can play that game. but while arahabaki helps null with that, null helps with arahabaki's destructive and explosive tendencies, managing to defuse a situation in mere seconds and get them out of trouble. they're looking out for each other, and they have their backs.

doa!atsushi but instead of being appointed to either fyodor or nikolai, he stuck rather close to sigma and stayed with them at the sky casino. [starts derailing] atsushi would at least young adolescence. 14 maybe? look im not accustomed with the timeline, so my hc is that his ability didn't manifest until he was at least 11-12, leading to him getting the scars at 10, that's what im going with. but if we're going by the fact that sigma has been created three years prior, then that would lead to atsushi being 15. so in my head the timeline is that atsushi would have joined the doa just as sigma was materialized and was given the sky casino. and because fyodor might think it was too early for him to exploit atsushi and his ability to find the book, he decides to just- drop this kid on another (supposed?) kid and just walked away. [stops derailing]

just-- two unfortunate souls growing up together with no sense of belonging in the world and just doing what they could to keep the closest thing that was home, the sky casino, safe. look i like their friendship a lot and i'm just imagining scenarios regarding them doing research of the city below them called Yokohama, learning its people and its quirks, going against the hunting dogs, them reuniting with nikolai after sigma fell with maybe atsushi jumping down with him, and just whatever is going on with ( ̄▽ ̄*)ゞ

this is definitely not an excuse to think of atsushi working in the sky casino as a supposed employee. DEFINITELY sigma's right-hand man/secretary at least, but atsushi's too young to gamble. (no shiz, if we're going off from the earlier derailing, he would be 15 years old to 18 dazeit). so maybe he looks after the customers and residence(?) of the casino? I DONT KNOW IM ABOUT TO RAMBLE WA-
