So because the teen titans fandom is pretty much almost dead I’m going to take this opportunity to shamelessly self-promote the works I’ve published recently on AO3 (don’t worry, the “sentimental ball of sunshine” and the “sentimental ball of partly cloudy weather” dynamic is still there): a version of Gamora and Peter Quill heavily based on the comics: https://archiveofourown.org/series/2253227
The first story has a recap of what happened in the comics it’s based on to help set the stage. I’m currently working on two more additions to the series and I expect to post the first two parts of the one I’ve been working on for a while pretty soon, end of the month I hope.
Happy (or sad) reading!

Watch what you crosstag on AO3, please.

Is it that hard to refrain from putting a ship tag in your fic that doesn’t even show up?
Oh yeah after reading the first issue of FS TT last month I was disappointed (like many fans considering the majority of tweets about it on socials always joking on writers always finding a way to make the titans suffer or worse) and considering that academy is going to be written by the same guy completely overturned my expectations and hopes for it. Is there really no one out there that can offer better? I'm no writer (my passion is drawing) and I know writing is an art in itself but really?
Unfortunately...Yeah.
I had really low hopes going in because the guy came with experience from like. Writing TTG for an episode and on DCAMU (LOL).
I also almost always get nervous when they make Raven a forefront of the story, because 9/10 it’s never good.
It’s yet another story about dead Titans, or sad Titans, or evil Titans, and like...do they ever get bored of this shit? It’s almost always the same formula time after time.
Another “epic” battle with some “epic” boss that wipes out a bunch of them/turns a bunch evil (except never the HUMAN heroes, like batbrats because...lol because of course not). And Raven doing some magic-y shit that requires her to faint/go evil again. A giant cast of characters, most of which have no real relevance to the story other than being a cameo.
Oh, and summoning the ghosts of their dead friends, I guess.
Honestly, the book is ruining Red X for me a bit, too. He’s fun because he’s chaos, this book is trying to make him be a hero and...that’s not really fun. Nor is it really him. He’s not really a hero at all. And I don’t mean to gloat or anything, but the fic I’m writing him in, it’s more about the concept of Red X, what he stands for - a rogue character, a mask to hide a truth everyone is too ashamed to confront.
A persona utilized for nefarious purposes that doesn’t necessarily mean the individual is misguided, but that for the current time, that yes, he/she is lost.
Removing that significance and making him some...misunderstood hero feels...I don’t know, kind of cheap to me. When Robin donned the Red X persona, he was working for Slade, against the Titans. When Red X shows up again, he uses the identity and powers of the suit to steal and gain for personal reasons. I honestly don’t think it works so well with Red X being a “pupil” of the Titans, but I get this might just be me because I’ve created an idea in my story and it’s hard for me to look beyond it right now.
I don’t know why every writer that tries to write Titans is always so cursed, though. Like, sometimes it doesn’t even matter if they DO have good credentials, they come onto write the Titans and just fail miserably. But like, this is why the GNs are outperforming their main continuity. Hello, DC? That’s NOT a good thing!!
I mean, it is, but also, it speaks a lot to how disengaged they are from their fanbase.
I still feel like it’s DC’s lack of care for these characters and this title that is the main contributor to having such weak writing, with so many repeated formulas.
We’re tired of seeing Dick and Kory as “jilted exes” who can’t be together because batfam.
We’re tired of seeing Dick/various batboys always hogging the spotlight in some way.
We’re tired of the evil/dead Titans nonsense.
This Academy idea is honestly so fresh, and yet, somehow and some way, DC has made it...just another rehash of what most Titans fans don’t want.
I guess that does take some level of skill, lol.
Lowkey kinda glad most people are trashing it online. DC is acting like this book is some great thing and really, it’s probably the weakest/worst FS title out there.
Tragic.

(comics) fic preview
Peter isn’t expecting anything.
Well, technically that’s not true. He’s expecting to gamble and get drunk, to spend some time with his friends and forget all the weird, horrible shit of the past few…hell, he can’t even remember how long it’s been since the whole mess started. Or where he’d actually place the beginning.
But hey, that puts him ahead of the game on the forgetting part. He’s doing pretty well on the drunk part too, head pleasantly floaty, the room going extra bright and colorful and just a little bit spinny around him.
What he’s not doing so well with is the gambling part, and also the spending time with his friends part. So far, in the time it’s taken him to get moderately drunk, he’s managed only to spot Groot already deep into one of the games. The rest of the time he’s been wandering somewhat aimlessly around the casino, definitely not looking for Gamora, who’s been conspicuously absent since they docked on the Planet of Sin.
He isn’t worried about her, he tells himself. He isn’t worried that she’s somehow managed to turn traitor after all, or that some crazed holdout of the ridiculously fanatical ‘kill Gamora for things she technically didn’t do’ army has managed to find her. He isn’t worried that she’s snapped, run away again of her own volition, overwhelmed by guilt and paranoia. And he definitely isn’t worried that she’s avoiding him because he’s finally managed to blurt out the dumbass love confession he’s been trying to drown in booze and bitterness for weeks. He’s especially un-worried about that last part because, like he’d told her, he isn’t expecting anything.
So he’s definitely not, in any way, shape, or form, expecting it when he turns away from watching a Krylorian poker game and finds her standing there in a skin tight dress, every inch of which is covered in black sequins. Her hair is loose, for once, and it’s even curled, which is…well, something he doesn’t have words for at the moment because she’s taken away his ability to do anything but stand there gaping like a fish.
Gamora arches an eyebrow and rests a hand on one hip, a familiar sort of friendly challenge in her posture. “What?”
“Uh…” He continues to stand there staring as about a billion possible responses run through his mind before, predictably, the dumbest one decides to fall right out of his mouth. “I didn’t know you owned any dresses.”
She shrugs, smirking. “I didn’t. But it seemed…fitting for my purpose.”
“Which is?” he prompts, downing the last of the drink he’s nearly forgotten he was holding.
“Seducing you,” says Gamora, like it’s obvious.
“Uh…” he says again, blinking at her dumbly.
