Hi, I'm going to settle in here a little bit. Here is my first post х)

Been thinking about this post, and I changed my mind. Not about the fandom thing or that spawn fans don't need to be made fun of, but how to handle those who think that they have a right to criticize what's healthy when it comes to fantasy. Had a bit of a Cave Johnson's "Lemons rant" at work the more I thought about it.

Someone needs to be reminded that they jumped straight into sleeping with a toxic man elf who is, mind you, a being that doesn't rely on consent and was conditioned to gather victims this way, long before he had any character development past "Nevermind, I can use this idiot," then held on through manipulation, gaslighting, and insults in hopes of a "happily ever after" with him learning the "error of his ways," all while ignoring the simple little detail that he used you using sex to get where he wants and could tear everything down with one small mistake. Astarion wasn't meant to be a healthy relationship from the start, so I don't see how anyone who chased Astarion has a leg to stand on to criticize others for AA. Even in the end, it's a co-dependent one and he still only trusts one person. Love to hear someone try to explain this away or twist it to be "healthy."

I saw a comment the other day that made me laugh hysterically while I was at work, and I meant to bring it up. The comment was about how AA fans want to make AA and their Tav live out a "Beauty and the Beast" story, and I don't think this person really gave it a second thought. That is what is happening in the first two acts to get Astarion to change how he sees the world.

Point is, those in glass houses shouldn't cast stones.

I don't understand this echoed take about how AA was "changed because people complained." It's been going about since the news of the kisses being changed dropped. As far as I can see, AA has remained untouched, it's the player's reactions that were changed to better fit rp styles. It's literally that simple. Larian realized the mistake and fixed it, they didn't change it because their arm was twisted or touched the story itself.

Even if he was changed, it most likely would have been something that was thought about even before Neil voiced him and was finally implemented due to interest in AA but I don't see any evidence of this.

I swear, those passing this around either didn't play that route, parroting it because it's the "right opinion" to impress someone, or just want to continue to make themselves/their characters self-made victims and don't want it changed for the inclusion of other playstyles like an Embraced Durge. Why else would many who would rarely even consider this route be rallying so hard against this change? Screw anyone who plays differently, right? If they actually LISTENED to others instead of making baseless claims, they'd understand this better.

I really like the interpretation that Astarion's so full of shit when he throws the corny, totally fake, "I've been waiting since the moment the moment I laid eyes on you..." Line.

Like "har har, the moment he holds a knife to your throat?"

Yeah. The moment he throws you on the ground and holds a knife to your throat. In an unfamiliar place after a traumatic experience. Where you have a knife to your throat and your body is going through a danger response. With your adrenaline spiked. And your blood pounding in your ear. And your neck. Right where Astarion's holding you. Right near his face. Where he can smell you. Sense it gushing through you.

I'm sure the man that spends the rest of the game telling you how delicious you smell (and taste if you let him) didn't have some small fraction of something awaken in him in that moment. I'm not thinking about this right now. It's probably nothing.

It's an FreakStarion. When Astarion does the cringe, pompous it's pleasurable and sexy because in slavery he wasn't allowed to do it, he had to be an invisible shadow, small worm - now he's free. In both cases and it's sad for those who don't see it in Lord Astarion aka Astarion with power.

Spawn Astarion has always been against Tav\DU being absolute.

The Astarion and Ascended Astarion was in support.

There are several tags in the game that describe Astarion's paths.

Spawn without completing the quest is the only chance to achieve the sun, remove some of the disadvantages of vampirism and take a power for revenge, self protection (and fun).

The Ascended Astarion has everything. He doesn't mind taking the Absolute. Why not? A weapon right in your pocket is a thing.

But he's totally chillin when Absolute gets defeated, because the it has its own complexities, and he's already free of all its vulnerabilities and the downside of vampirism.

Also in the case of relationships, Lord Astarion had already seen an example of the Tav's complete faith and trust when they helped him with the ritual and then became his spawn. So yeah, he trusted them completely and was fine for Tav\DU taking more power for themselves.

So yes the closest person to him betrayed him. His usual ‘trust no-one’ line, he trusted them and that's it.

So the moment people are talking about

There's a very simple reason for that: so you're allowed to take power, but I'm not? What the hell is this?

It's seen as deception, betrayal. First the heroes says ‘I want you to live a life you'll be proud of’ - not to take power in an immoral way. The way of redemption.

Then: well I'll take it for myself, let's go-o.

Considering there's no Lord tag here, it's for all of Astarion except the spawn after the ritual.

Lord Astarion and Astarion before the ritual both trusted Tav and thought they would be together, ruling together too, drinking from golden goblets ans stuff, the two of them and no one advertising the path of ‘redemption’ and then taking power just for themselves.

I won't hide this reference, I laugh because of it every time. Basically any posters from the 50‘s-60’s if you use them as memes are so much fun.

It's been a tough six months for all of us. ‘We’ are fans of the Ascended Astarion. You can say we sexualize the character. You can say we don't understand him. We love Astarion and we want the best for him, just as he would want for us, because our feelings are mutual. You can think however you feel comfortable, but that doesn't negate the fact of our love. We fought for our happiness and we got it. I hope all the tears spilled by spawn fans because of patch 7 will be far more bitter than the tears of AA fans traumatized by the OOC kisses in patch 6 that are now a thing of the past. Why? Because we all deserve justice.  And inadequate spawn fans too. You can pretend to be dedicated AA fans on the forums and on and on, uselessly begging for abusive behavior for others, but nothing can break my love for Astarion. Not even those faces of fear could. He makes me feel like a person. With this video I want to capture the mood of patch 6 and say bye to it.
