That's the truth. Let's be more tolerant of s&m, adrenaline junkies who like aggressive, obsessive, vampire love? And the dark, dangerous, evil side of Astarion that's always been with him. It just kind of intensified when he Ascended, he's always been a Magnificent Bastard.

Since the full game came out and we got all of Astarion’s story, I feel like I’ve seen a lot of people… de-fang him? If that makes sense?Especially with the spawn ending (spawn ending is my preferred ending too which makes me doubly bummed)

Here’s what I mean. Astarion is a little shit. A little shit who has been through a whole lot of terrible things, but he’s still a jackass. Even at the end of the game (only talking about a Good run where he doesn’t Ascend here), even when he softens a bit and doesn’t hate Tav helping people and being nice, even after he falls in love, he is still a jerk.

And I LOVE that Astarion is an asshole. It’s honestly one of my favorite qualities of his. It’s what made me like his character in the first place was that I wanted to figure out what made him “like that.”

It feels like, especially with a lot of recent fan art and fan fic (all lovely! Please don’t get me wrong! I’m not pointing fingers at anyone in particular) he’s been re-interpreted as almost too soft. Especially in regards to sex and romance.

I could go on, but I really don’t want people to light me on fire lol. It’s probably just a me thing, but it bums me out that a lot of people’s reactions (at least from what I’ve seen, I’m no doubt missing things) to his backstory is to have Romanced!Tav handle him as if he were made of porcelain rather than treat him like a normal person.

*Patiently waiting for people to realize this is a fantasy game, not a therapist's office and nothing terrible will happen if the character chooses chaos instead cemetery therapy.*

Kinda pity, love, your charisma wasn't enough for Ascension and a lot of people think it's so non-Astarion (sorta potato I guess) and it corrupted him. Astarion entered into such courage. As Lord, his should have been even trickier, out of flowers and candy? Knees don't work for everyone! It worked for me and 1 act stuff. Faerun will be his.

Ascended is a new thing. "Souls, hearts, love" - vampire creatures in general are doing well in this? There's nothing about vampire souls in DnD. "Dark desires" it's their thing. Well, he just went from neutral-evil vampire spawn to lawful-evil vampire lord, for sure.

If Astarion had succeeded even more. We could all fandom peacefully shall march and the song shall echo, "shine, Auspicious Sun!", "Ho! Triumph, ho! Great Triumph!"

No hate for the "good" playstyle, spawn-path. The point that Astarion's dark side very exists, was previously without trauma and enhanced by it, and vampirism.

ascended astarion isnt unfeeling hes feeling waay too much. "i felt so very little for so long... my edges dulled over numb years rotting in the budiour and kennels" he's able now to experience all that mortal life has to offer, but in this state everything is enhanced. time slows to a halt, every sensation is ovewhelming. love becomes obsession and ambition becomes greed. look him in the eyes when he speaks, and he's manic, but he holds it well because he always has. to say it isnt really him anymore takes away from the true horror of it, its still him, but its warping and twisting his desires, and he revels in it
