i love the word crazy and i love the word mad. like yeah i’m mad, mad as in entirely fucking insane but also mad as in angry, angry at psychiatric violence and angry at the oppression we face. madness can hold my joy + my rage, and I love madness, love the way mad people love. madness means that i am NOT going to sit quietly and observe the violence of psychiatry without saying anything, madness meant that I destroyed my room in the psych ward and made five other patients origami cranes to decorate their rooms. i am mad and i am fucking proud of it

mad pride is my right to be unmedicated and not have to fear being institutionalized if I talk about my experiences as an insane person

You can't call yourself anti-psychiatry or mad pride and then turn around and abuse your community the same way psychiatry does.

I.e you can't fakeclaim people, tell people they're not allowed to reframe their own relationships with a marginalized existence in a way that psychiatry disagrees with, harass people for their cultural or spiritual beliefs, or tell them that their coping methods (so long as they don't hurt anyone, and "your existence might make the rest of us look cringy" doesn't count) are wrong, force labels on them they don't want, speculate on their history and trauma without their consent, or in any way mock them for their mental health or lack thereof.

You cannot call out psychiatry for its abuse of mentally ill people only to lash out at others because you don't understand their complicated relationship with their marginalized identities and complicated experiences. That is hypocrisy, you are hurting marginalized people, and it's objectively against the values and justice behind the mad pride and anti-psyche movements.
