Personally I think it’s mostly about the undoing of big problems in those games. Usually you “strand” somewhere or you go live in a very remote place. Outside stress falls away. Social media is reduces to a small social group (usually less than a 100) and there is no outside media/complex politics/hidden agendas to distract us with desaster/etc. It’s all about your space in the world. Close and very controlable. This simple way of living has dominated humanity for thousands of years. The way we live today is very unnatural compared to those times. I think it’s become something of a romantic fantasy for most. A place to disconnect and reconnect to yourself your close community and nature.

I have this issue where If I get stressed out or feel too much social pressure I don’t respond to messages. My guilt makes me think about them every day but I just cant do it. I can’t write or answer or ask. I’ve often felt very ashamed and I’m relieved to see that I’m not the only one who struggles with this.
