What a View

Summary: Y/N goes to visit Maverick in San Diego after finishing her PhD. She joins the team on the beach. Y/N has the best views. Based on this request. I did change it a little bit to be that Y/N has met Rooster previously.

Pairings: Rooster x Fem!Reader

Y/F/N Y/L/N was excited to be spending the summer with her Uncle Maverick after a long grueling year of school. Y/N had just recently earned her PhD, so as a celebration for finishing, Maverick invited her to go with him to San Diego while he was there to train for a new mission.

Maverick was good friends with her mom, and she had known him most of her life. After her dad had left her and her mom, Maverick became the only father figure she had. It had been about a year and half since she had last seen him, and she had really missed him.

Upon arriving at Maverick’s place, she didn’t realize just how tired she was from all her hard work. She spent the first few days sleeping, reading, and binging her favorite shows. She was thoroughly enjoying doing nothing.

Maverick was the complete opposite. He’s the type of person who couldn’t sit still and always had to be doing something. So after three days of letting Y/N relax and unwind, he decided that she should get out of the house.

“Alright Y/N, I think it’s time you get out and see San Diego. You’re coming with me to the beach. I’m taking the aviators to play some team building games, and I think it would be good for you to be there.”

Y/N groaned, “Just one more day of doing nothing, please.”

“Nope, you’re coming with me. If you want, you can do nothing at the beach. Bradley Bradshaw will be there.”

Y/N’s face grew hot at the mention of Bradley. She had met him a few times through Maverick growing up. The times that they had spent together, she had developed a crush on him. He had a playful teasing nature about him and would always make her flustered, it was one of his favorite games.

Maverick had seen the chemistry between the two of them and figured this was a good way to get her to the beach.

“Mav, I haven’t seen him in like six years, he probably doesn’t even remember me. Not that it matters, that’s not going to sway me.”

“Trust me, he’ll remember you. But if that won’t sway you, Penny owns the bar right there on the beach and I’m sure you could get some drinks.”

Y/N hadn’t seen Penny or Brad in a while, so she was actually considering it. The girl sighed dramatically, “Fine, I’ll go. But I’m not playing your games, I’m tanning and reading a book. That’s it.”

Mav chuckled and nodded in agreement. “That’s fine. Go get ready, we leave in an hour.”

When Y/N and Maverick arrived at the beach, Penny was sitting outside and a few other people sat waiting for the rest to show up. Maverick introduced them as Phoenix and Bob. She chatted with them a bit as the others slowly showed up.

She was introduced to a few of the others when Bradley Bradshaw made his way over to the group. Y/N’s heart stopped when she glanced over at him. He was quick to greet everyone except Mav and the tall blonde who had introduced himself as Hangman.

He was more muscular and tan than the last time she remembered. His hair was lighter and the mustache he had grown looked really good on him. He felt someone’s eyes on him and turned to Y/N, eyes widening in surprise before a grin broke out on his face.

“Y/F/N Y/LN? Is that you? Haven’t seen you in quite a long time darling!”

He came up and wrapped her in a hug which she shyly reciprocated. Being cloaked in his strong arms was making her flustered. Bradley could tell and he chuckled internally.

“Hey Bradley. Long time no see.” She pulled away and bit her lip as he looked her up and down.

“You joining us for the game?”

She shook her head “Nope, absolutely not. I’m going to enjoy my book and get a tan.”

“Shame, I was looking forward to seeing your moves.” He winked at her and walked away, pulling his shirt off in the process.

Y/N swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat and quickly looked away, but that didn’t help. Nearly all the aviators were now shirtless, and they all looked really good.

Now she wasn’t sure if she’d be able to focus on the book she brought. She decided to go get her chair set up and shift her attention. She set up an additional chair for Maverick as well. Y/N then slipped off her swim cover to apply some sunscreen. She paused when she heard someone whistle.

She turned to look at where the sound had come from to see Bradley looking at her, licking his bottom lip. Phoenix slapped her hand on his shoulder before teasing him. “Bradshaw, focus on the game and let the girl read in peace.”

Bradley rolled his eyes and shrugged Phoenix’s hand off his shoulder as he continued to look at Y/N, a smirk forming on his face. She quickly sat down and hid her face behind her book, to hide her embarrassment.

She sat there with the book in front of her face, glancing up at the game happening in front of her every now and again. If she was being honest, she wasn’t paying any attention to the book. She’d turn a page now and again, but the girl was not comprehending the words in front of her. Instead she was busy watching Rooster do his victory dances after a touchdown. Something he was only doing because of the girl watching him.

About forty minutes later she was trying to focus on her book when she heard laughter. Glancing up she saw Hangman talking to Bradley, pointing her way. Bradley glanced over giving her a smug smile (something he seemed to do a lot around her) and headed her way. She quickly averted her eyes and looked at the book once more.

Bradley ditched the game which had really just turned into a water fight at that point. She was too busy not reading to notice that he was headed her way. Suddenly she felt someone sit in the chair next to her. She knew exactly who it was without looking and tried to act unbothered as he did so.

“How’s the book?”

She shrugged, “It's good. Great actually.”

Bradley chuckled and leaned closer to her, “Really? Do you normally read your books upside down?”

Y/N scrunched her eyebrows in confusion then looked at the book in her hands. Sure enough the book was upside down.

She groaned and dropped the book, covering her face with her hands. “Go away, Bradley. Let me die of embarrassment alone.”

He laughed and leaned back in the chair. “I really hope I’m the one you were drooling over, darling. If not, I’m jealous of whoever captured your attention.”

“I wasn’t drooling over anyone.”

“Sure, sweets. Whatever you say.”

Y/N could still feel Bradley’s eyes on her as she avoided looking at him.

“Want to go for a swim?”

“Uhhhh, no. I’m good.”

He stood up and held his hand out to her, “Come on darling, afraid to get wet for me?”

Y/N’s eyes widened in surprise. “Bradley!”

He placed his hand on his chest as he leaned back and let out a deep laugh. “I see you still get flustered around me. It was always my favorite thing to see, still is if I’m being honest.”

She shook her head and stood up, gathering her book, “You’re the worst.”

Before she could fold up the chair to move away, she felt a pair of arms around her waist and she suddenly found herself thrown over the tall man’s shoulder. She dropped the book in surprise and started pounding on his back.

“Bradley Bradshaw! Put. Me. Down. NOW!”

He ignored her plea and continued towards the water.

“I swear, if you drop me in the water, you will live to regret it.”

“And miss out on you screaming my name once you hit the water? Not a chance.”

Y/N felt her cheeks heat up. Not only had Bradley grown to be more attractive, he was also more bold than he used to be. She couldn’t deny that she loved it.

Before she knew it, she was thrown into the cold water. She yelled out his name as soon as she resurfaced. The boy had a smug look on his face at his victory.

“Yep, hearing you scream my name was as beautiful as I thought it’d be.”

Y/N shook her head and splashed him with water in retaliation. He laughed and started to splash her back, both of them engaging in a small water war. She giggled and tried to move away from him, but she wasn’t quick enough and he wrapped his arms around her waist to keep her close.

“Gotcha!”

She looked up at him and her breath hitched. He was so close, not that she minded. He ran his hand back and forth over her lower back, which didn’t go unnoticed by her.

“I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to ask because I should have done it years ago, but there’s no time like the present. Will you go to dinner with me?”

She nodded, smiling softly. “I’d really like that.”

A genuine smile graced his face, “Great. But just so you know, Darling, I definitely kiss on the first date.”

She laughed and shook her head as she draped her arms over his shoulders. “I’m looking forward to it, Bradshaw.”
