The Final Part.
the Final Part.
The entirtey of Chapter 61 is fantastic.
62 is so good too, them just rolling around making up for years of kisses in one night...
Baz finding food for Simon again...
I wish Baz had taken Simon up on the offer to see a psychiatrist (it's a throwaway line in the epilogue). He could probably benefit from some therapy.
When Baz shows Simon his fangs- undisputed proof he is a vampire- the only thing Simon thinks to say is "Wicked,"
Vera is a real one for ignoring the fact that she saw the two making out...
Simon running to Baz's house because he just learned that he is madly l love...
Okay on to the final part....
"I'm sorry all the good stuff happened after I left you,"
That line tore me up a little bit.
The Mage would have destroyed the Humdrum with Simon's power, probably in the exact same way Simon did (IF the Mage could have given up any kind of power). He just wanted it for himself.
There is no way that the Mage ever saw Simon as a child, to Davy, Simon was only power. As soon as he saw Simon as a child, he was disappointed.
Simon picked up on some of the Mage's ideas about him, highlighted in his conversation with Baz. But he is not his magick, the magick was one component of who he is. He survived before and he will survive after.
The Mage is such a complicated and nuanced character. He has some good ideas with his reforms and he opened Watford up to hundreds of students. But he went about it in the wrong way and traumatized Simon, made Baz a vampire, and killed Natasha and l
I’ll finish this post out with a good old
FUCK THE MAGE.
I’m rereading Carry On for the 4th time in less than 18 months and here are some things that stuck out to me. I was reading around a friend and they were so suprised about how into the story I was. But it’s Simon and Baz and Penelope and Agatha. How could you read it and not be fully engrossed? Anyways:
Simon and Agatha didn’t believe for a second Simon would live past this year. That’s why she broke up with him, because she thought she was dating a future funeral.
Penelope is in denial about Simon’s fragility. She believes that Simon would manage to live through the Humdrum if she also fights hard enough.
Simon- Baz’s-eyes-are-the-shade-of-gray-that-happens-when-you-mix-dark-blue-and-dark-green-together Snow.
Simon is obsessed with Baz because Baz represents what the Mage is fighting against. Dark creatures, the Old Families, power. He notices all that as a rebellion.
Also, head over heels in love. But we’ll get to that.
The Mage did everything to fix Simon. Instead of, I don’t know, being a good dad, he became headmaster, did away with the oral exams, reformed the entry so anyone (Simon) could enter, made Simon his heir, gave Simon his sword and wand, started raiding homes for artifacts to fix a child HE broke and made numpties kidnap Baz, and tried to get Simon away from Watford so Simon wouldn’t hear any visitings. Just keep the kid around, man.
Fuck the Mage.
Rainbow putting 3 straight chapters of Baz’s POV is such a good move. She was obsessed with him, Simon was too, and the world deserved as much Baz as we could get.
I will forever love how the millisecond we get Baz reflecting on himself, we get the line “And I’m hopelessly in love with him”.

WIP Wednesday
This is from my current WIP and it's double anything I've written before. It was supposed to be short and sweet but adding two more POV's and a habit of using drawn out metaphors made it longer.
Basically, it's looking at Simon and Baz's relationships from the perspective of places and things in Watford (think the Crucible, Shepard's truck etc.) with Simon and Baz chiming in with their thoughts and feelings on the events through the series and after.
Anyways, this is an excerpt from the POV of the Catacombs from about 5th year:
Baz would always come down and escape. He’d hunt the ever present rats, wander around for hours, and spend time at his mother’s grave. From what I picked of his conversations with Natasha, it was hard for him. His father pointedly ignored who he was. Baz felt that he had to be the absolute best to meet his mother’s standards. He was a vampire, not even a human, and he had no support when he was at Watford. Hence waking in the small hours of the morning to hunt rats in the dark to stay alive.
My dream artists to be on a Simon Snow trilogy show would be Troye Sivan (Blue Neighborhood), Ricky Montgomery (Montgomery Ricky), Will Wood (The Normal Album) and a little bit of Sufjan Stevens. The show will probably never happen but imagine these artists soundtracking these characters’ lives.
School essays are difficult because they want me to write something boring about apologetics but all I want to do is write a 14 paragraph well worded essay about the Hero’s Journey and how Simon Snow follows it and takes divergences off it. The second would be taking a look at what happens after that journey ends for other heroes and those around them, focused on picking up the pieces of when the hero’s story ends, using Wayward Son as a main source. Finally, the third would be about allegory and it’s affect on the story of the Simon Snow Trilogy. Instead, I am fated to write a 3 page essay on if gods are all the same.
When someone you love offers a bid for connection, you say yes every time. When someone sends you an article, a video, a funny post, it’s a bid for connection. They are trying to connect with you. When someone shares details about their day, their life, their thoughts, or their feelings with you, that is a bid for connection. They want to connect with you on a deeper level. They are trying to pull you into their world. If you love them, you say yes every time. Yes, even if the article they send is not particularly interesting to you. Yes, even if it means listening to them ramble about a game you don’t care about and think is stupid. Yes yes yes. And let’s hope they always say yes to your bids, too.
Salim would like watching Bake By Mimo.
