scenario: [ james has a ridiculous injury that he doesn't want to explain to ruby. ]

          “ you  know  i  ain’t  gonna  judge  you,  right ? ”  ruby  says  after  a  minute,  placing  her  hands  on  her  hips  as  she  continues  to  observe  the  injury  in  question.  “ not  to  pry  or  nothin’,  but  you  can  tell  me  what  happened.  it  can  stay  just  between  us. ”

"Are  you  finding  it  boring?" --- for alex , from henry !

          alex  loves  henry,  enjoys  hearing  him  talk  about  all  the  things  that  interest  him,  but  sometimes  alex  has  a  hard  time  focusing—particularly  when  he  has  a  lot  on  his  mind.  his  mind  is  always  racing,  so  it’s  certainly  not  unheard  of  that  he’d  zone  out  and  have  to  be  called  to  attention.

          “ huh ? ”  he  snaps  out  of  his  trance  like  stupor,  diaz  brown  eyes  refocusing  on  henry  for  a  moment  before  looking  away,  embarrassed.  “ no,  of  course  not, ”  he  defends,  scratching  the  bridge  of  his  nose.  “ sorry,  i  guess  i’m  just  a  little  distracted… ”

          the  stresses  of  his  parents,  the  campaign,  the  duty  that  comes  with  it  all…  sometimes  alex  forgets  that  he  doesn’t  have  to  deal  with  it  all  on  his  own,  though  that  doesn’t  stop  him  from  trying.  besides,  henry  has  enough  on  his  plate  to  worry  about.

scenario: luke needs a new outfit or haircut, and kate is here to help.

          his  hair  had  seen  better  days  and  he’d  never  been  one  to  be  good  at  the  up  keep  on  it,  anyhow.  as  a  kid,  his  mother  used  to  cut  his  hair  herself,  since  she  claimed  that  it  saved  money,  but  luke  had  always  wished  she’d  just  take  him  to  a  barber  shop,  just  once.  when  he  was  old  enough,  he  paid  to  get  it  done  professionally,  but,  of  course,  with  his  luck,  it  made  all  too  perfect  sense  that  he’d  wind  up  in  the  apocalypse  with  no  one  around  who  could  cut  his  hair  but  himself.

          the  things  people  took  for  granted;  he  could  almost  laugh  at  irony.

          one  would  think  that  after  being  forced  to  cut  his  own  hair  over  the  years,  he’d  get  better  at  it,  but  no.  despite  it  being  more  grown  out  now,  hanging  just  above  his  shoulders,  the  remnants  of  it’s  uneven  choppiness  could  still  be  seen  if  someone  looked  close  enough.

          “ you  don’t  hafta  do  this, ”  he  told  kate  when  she’d  offered  to  cut  his  hair  for  him.  “ i  ain’t  got  anythin’  to  repay  you  with. ”

Clem's called Luke on the phone & leaves a voice message, “Call me back when you can, but Luke, didja see that eclipse? That was CRAZY.”

cue luke calling clem back and the two of them talk about the eclipse, roasting nick ( i.e. saying that surprisingly he didn't try to look at it with his bare eyes ) in the process !

sorry for the silence over here! i spent 7hrs in the ER yesterday (nothing bad to report, no worries!) and my body is sore lol. i’ll try to get some writing done today, but i think my writing time is going to be even more scarce than usual bc my coworker quit the other day and i’m gonna have to pick up his slack until we hire someone new.
