Congrats to Tay on the gender!! Special shoutout to all the other contestants' gender, just because it maybe doesn't incite as much envy as another's gender, that doesn't mean it isn't great!!! I'm going to stop myself here before I put my degree at work and start philosophizing about the nature of gender lol.

But as always, thank you to everyone who participated!!! These brackets are only possible because of y'alls involvement and I'm glad that y'all continue to like what I'm doing and I hope that I can continue to improve and make this a more and more enjoyable experience for all!!!

Lomfon thoughts

So I read a bunch of la pluie meta but this post by @fadelikeclouds got me really thinking about Lomfon and his decision making, because it made so much sense to a logical brain. 

He made all the wrong choices, and he shouldn’t have done it, this isn’t a defence post it’s just a follow his logic post.

Prior to this episode we know

He doesn’t believe in soulmates (jut randomly similar wavelengths) - very logical 

(although I thought we’d get an emotional foundation for that - e.g. maybe one of his parents left becuase they found their soulmate, but it doesn’t seem like it anymore??).

Established link to an unknown person through a keychain. 

So here he is trying to figure out what on earth it means that he’s suddenly connected to Tai, a man he latched onto based on one conversation where he felt they really connected and basically nothing else (other than Tai’s continuing to be polite when they meet). This is big logic brain energy to me, he has gone:

ah this is a person I like for logical reasons like mutual interest, he is my crush now.

then we have two things happen (one slowly one quickly)

1. he gets feelings for Tien (slowly, illogically, over time)

2. he becomes Tai’s soulmate (suddenly and illogically). (and it’s only once so did it even happen or will it happen again?)

So he’s left with two hypotheses

1. He likes Tai (and Tai is his soulmate…is Tai his soulmate?)

2. He likes Tien

Asking Patts to solve it

The only defence statement I will say is that Lomfon made 1 SINGLE attempt to not be selfish, this was when he approached Patts and told him the truth, this was him reaching out in his confusion to discuss it. and Patts shut. him. down. (For perfectly good reasons don’t get me wrong) (especially since Lomfon doesn’t say he can hear both of them - confirmation bias for sure I saw a post about this sorry I don’t remember which one)

So this leaves Lomfon in a bit of a bind, WHAT DOES HE FEEL? Because he genuinely doesn’t know friends, he’s so confused is Lomfon. 

Asking Tien to solve it

Next we have him try to abdicate responsibility by asking Tien to solve his problem (without providing ANY CONTEXT). This obviously doesn’t yield his desired answer and he is once again confronted with his feelins for Tien with the little pinky touch. 

So he’s tried Patts, he’s tried Tien and who is left? Tai. 

Asking/Forcing Tai to solve it

and if he’s seeing Tai, he first needs to check if they are soulmates, prove that they are, because that’s the only way things will matter to Tai. 

So he picks a day it will rain and asks to meet. 

and then he waits for it to rain. 

Now I genuinely believe that the confession/kiss bit was pushed by the keychain revelation, that had definitely not been the plan. But he finally found his ‘first love’ and it’s also his soulmate, and he HAS TO KNOW DANG IT, so he kisses Tai, to check his own feelings (another wrong choice). 

And then he apologises

Why?

Because it was the wrong decision? ah der 

Because Tai didn’t want it? also clearly

Or maybe partly because…he didn’t feel anything.

We don’t get to properly see his response beyond this, because everything becomes a big mess and poor Tien is left outside of the conversation (and outside of the camera shots) while the three soulmates yell and fight and then…the connection is gone…and

Tien is there, and Tien is angry and dang it doesn’t Tien understand that Lomfon NEEDS to understand because Tien believes in soulmates and Tai is Lomfons soulmates and dang it Tien, I needed to know and it doesn’t concern you.

Except it does…

And now he’s ruined everything.

I want him to dwell in his consequences for sure, but I also hope that he grows into someone who can make Tien happy, because Tien fricken deserves it. 

Something I noticed in Step By Step

Ep 9 - The shift of the light

Pat starts off with light around him framing his face. When he sees Jeng for the first time, Jeng is blurred in the background with the flames in the front. Jeng has always been in the back of his mind, and Pat has always had other things to worry about. But all that is changing. Jeng likes him, he doesn’t know how he feels, and Jeng is leaving.

Pat closes his eyes, makes his wish, and blows out the candle. The light vanishes around him. The camera then flashes to Jeng, who is now lit up, a spotlight shining down on him. Pat can’t ignore Jeng anymore, he can’t tamp it down. We don’t know what he wished for but if were to take a wild guess it would most likely have something to do with Pat’s lovely situation with his boss Mr. Jeng.

Anyways, This moment was done so beautifully and the way the light was used so clever. I didn’t see anyone else talk about it so I wanted to :)

POV: You binge the first 3 episodes of La Pluie after not hearing much about it, think you're IN LOVE with the show, so you go watch the trailer for the first time because a new episode is 4 whole days away, and after seeing the craziness ahead, you're not sure if you even want to continue watching.

Thinking about how for someone who claimed to not believe in soulmates, Lomfon sure let fate and destiny put in all of the work in his relationships while he personally contributed barely anything.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Lomfon. But boy done fucked up. That’s why he and Tai would never work as a couple. Neither one of them puts in any work for the relationship because they put absolute trust and faith in the universe and destiny and fate and then never bother to actually communicate things. To anyone.

Lomfon held on to a keychain and proclaimed if belonged to his first love. Did he ever ask anyone about it? Did he ever look into who it belonged to? Or did he just use it and wait for fate to bring them back together?

Tai got upset and ran away by himself up a dangerous mountain. Did he think to tell anyone? Not even Patts but literally any of his friends on the mountain? His BROTHER? Did he think to leave a note? Or did he just think if he went up the mountain fate would give him the answers he’s been searching for when all he had to do was communicate with anyone?

Patts and Then have been doing all of the communication for these two. And I’ll be honest, I’m upset at Patts for becoming violent towards Lomfon but I understand why. But I think he has some self reflecting to do there but I digress.

Patts has constantly been the one reaching out to Tai for two years and was met with silence. Patts was the one Lomfon told about being Tai’s soulmate and Patts was the one who told Lomfon to stay away and not cross those boundaries. Patts is the one that wanted so badly to believe that Tai wasn’t lying to him that he went out of his way looking for Tai despite the evidence he had to the contrary. And Patts gave Tai every opportunity to tell the truth. He gave that to Tai and was met with hurt silence instead.

Tien has been the one constant in Tai’s life. Whenever Tai was upset or moody or distant or silent, Tien was there for him. How much of Tien’s noise is to make up for Tai’s silence? How much of himself did Tien give away to his brother, unknowingly? Tien was the one who broke down when Tai went missing on the mountain. Tien was arguably more distraught than Patts. Tien was the one who welcomed Patts with open arms. Tien was the one who was there and communicated with Patts when he was searching for Tai amidst the lie. Tien was the one who took care of Lomfon. Tien is the one who admitted first that he liked Lomfon without needing to prove anything to anyone. Tien was the one constantly reaching out to all three of them when they needed someone the most. And now which one of them has thought of him? Who is there to pick up the pieces of his shattered heart? Who even knew he was in love and is now breaking? Tien gave so much of himself to others who didn’t know to appreciate or even realize that they’ve left him with nothing but a hollowed out heart.

And I love all four of them. That’s what’s so great about this show. Is that even with how upset I am at Tai, Patts, and Lomfon, I still love them. They are just people and they’re learning and loving and growing. They are flawed and they are allowed to be and it doesn’t make them bad people. I would say they are all extremely good people. Destiny has played a cruel joke on all of them and they are all doing the best with what they got. Some of them are better than others at communicating and being there for when people need them. Some of them are shit at communicating and don’t realize when others need them.

Patts is probably the best communicator of the bunch which makes sense because he’s older. Tien still needs to learn to communicate his own needs, wants, desires, and hurts. But Tien is excellent at seeing others. Tai is very in tune with his own emotions and what he needs but doesn’t think of others and what they might need from him. And Lomfon has been so blinded by destiny that he hasn’t seen anyone. Not truly.

La Pluie has been saying 'what matters is what you choose' and then gives us an episode of people just making TERRIBLE choices to reinforce the point and bra-fucking-vo, 12/10. My alley cat Tai wrong and he knows it and he decides to double down the more cornered he feels about it. Patts still not over getting ignored for 2 years, still feeling insecure about it. Lomfon...*sigh* is a messy motherfucker who lives for the drama, cuz this literally could've been an email if he wasn't obsessed with being right about things. The only person I feel sorry for right now is Tien, cuz he was just vibing, having a great time and now he gotta deal with this mess and HE AIN'T EEM DID NOTHIN.
