you were at your bestfriend!mark’s house, like you usually were on friday nights. a movie played on the tv while mark’s head rested on the throw pillow on your lap as you played with his hair. you and mark were super close so it’s not like this was anything new to you.

“it’s getting pretty late, so i should probably head out soon.” you yawned. mark lied on his side toward the tv, but he shifted his position to look up at you, grabbing onto your arm.

“…cant you just stay here tonight?”

you look down at the concerned boy.

“i really shouldn’t… i have to wake up early tomorrow and-”

“pllllleeeeeeeaaaaassseeeee” he tugs your arm.

you reach for your phone to check the time.

“..fine...10 more minutes.”

mark squinted his eyes and scrunched his nose in satisfaction, before turning his head back to the tv. you look down at mark as his focus drifts back to the movie, your hand still playing with his hair. apparently the movie was really funny, because mark broke out into laughter, then looked up to you, seeing you looking down at him. still smiling with his mouth wide open from laughing, he closes it to form a reassuring grin.

“you’re really pretty y/n.” he flutters his eyes.

“what”

“nothin.” he giggled turning his head back to the movie.

you froze at mark’s sudden compliment.

you and mark have been best friends for a long time, and truthfully, you’ve always liked each other. however, neither of you ever really felt the need to confess because most of the time, it honestly already felt like the two of you were dating. and recently things have been happening that keep confirming your feelings for one another.

after a few minutes of admiring the boy, you got his attention.

“mark, look at me.” you said, turning his head to face you with your palm on his cheek. mark looked up at you with a sleepy expression. you tilt your head and squint your eyes to pretend to get a better look at him.

“mmm… you’re really pretty too, mark.”

mark covers his face with his hands in embarrassment, hoping to hide his rosy cheeks. you took his hands off his face and kept them in place over his chest.

“mark..”

“yeah?”

“can i kiss you?”

“yeah.”

you brought your head down to meet your lips with the ones of the boy that layed on the pillow over your lap.

maybe you would stay a little longer.

now you really understand why they call haechan a bear. holding him close to you, heart fluttering at the feeling of his chest against yours. you could stay like this for hours, and you did, but with your legs getting tired of standing. so now on the couch, you stay holding onto him, only subtly changing your position to wrap your arms around his waist and under his arms from the back. resting your chin on top of his shoulder to press your cheek up against his. you sit behind him, a little squished in the limited space there was between haechan and the couch. you pulled haechan back with you as you leaned your back against the arm of the couch, haechan shifting slightly to the side of you to relieve the pressure off your chest. but still, you held haechan in your arms, just like you would a teddy bear.

mark wasn’t more than just a close friend, and you were okay with that. you were okay with it because the two of you were just close friends that also held hands when they walked, that wrapped their arms around each other, and that fell asleep on each other’s shoulders. just a close friend. however it was moments like these right now, sitting on the couch next to your close friend as he holds you very close to him, looking directly into his eyes, both of you teary eyed from feeling so cared for by one another, that made you wonder what exactly you were.

you were a fool for mark lee. as was he, for you.

your head felt heavy, and so did your eyelids. being an extremely light sleeper, you were woken up by the noise of the ac turning on after a long period of the room being still and quiet. you were still half asleep, feeling your head gently rise up and down with haechan’s steady breathing, hearing the cool air rush through the vents, bringing a faint buzzing noise with it as it filled the room with a refreshing sensation. you were so unbothered. there you lied awake on haechan’s chest, taking in every single detail you could absorb of this eerie yet peaceful moment.
