I am weak.

It was strange, Etho thought, how well he and Joel just clicked.

And while, yes, they had talked before, Etho would have never pictured himself teaming with Joel of all people.

And yet, here he sat, rowing a boat across grass and laughing, his partner beside jim in a boat of his own.

He was having fun, which was relieving after Last Life.

Etho and Joel were two sides of the same coin, with Etho being the more calculated of the chaotic duo.

The thing was, Etho and Joel were both equally unhinged and annoying. They were like pests to the other players, and it was amazing.

One thing Etho didn't enjoy though, was the pain.

The cryptid had a high pain tolerance, sure, but that was with physical pain.

He didn't expect the phantom feelings from his partner.

Every time Etho felt pain from his partner, he felt Joel's worry.

Joel was scared, even though he seemed to be having a lot of fun.

Joel was scared of dying, and it got worse after the accident with the enderman.

The worst part about it all was that Etho didn't know what to do.

He barely knew what to do with his own emotions, let alone someone else.

He was worried, worried about his soulmate's wellbeing and worried abut this whole situation.

Joel took him aside one day, after they had stolen from Bdubs and Impulse.

"I'm alright mate, stop worrying. You're starting to feel like a mother hen."

And all Etho could muster was a simple "sorry."

He didn't even know why he apologized. Maybe it was because he didn't know what to do.

Then, Joel did something that neither of them expected.

He hugged Etho.

And Etho didn't mind it.

It felt... right. Somehow.

In that moment, nothing else mattered.

It was just two soulmates, standing in the middle of the world, hugging.

Two people who didn't know how to talk about feelings, and didn't normally hug someone, were hugging each other and it felt like the right thing to do.
