who up. Waiting for Tmk
i recently finished the ep where jay has a call with grandma ferin, and i've had thoughts ever since (spoilers ahead):
jay's always been the one with a little more smarts, a little more common sense out of the albatrio. she's usually the one trying to keep chip and gillion out of trouble, and more often than not, she's solo-ing the big evil boss while chip and gillion are stuck doing some bit.
chip and gillion have fondly said "jay's the smartest" and "jay's the smart one here" countless times.
she didn't feel so smart hyperventilating into the conch shell with her grandmother on the other end.
she didn't feel so smart when she froze up the moment she heard her grandma's voice, unable to form a single intelligible sentence to even remotely try to pretend she was still undercover and working for the navy.
after she had retreated to the captain's quarters, chip and gillion had come to the conclusion that they didn't really know how to help her, and that jay had probably already figured it out anyways.
but she didn't.
so much for being the smart one, huh?
and if not for aslana's sudden visit, she would have probably spiralled in her thoughts all night. she would have probably stayed up replaying the conversation over and over, each time ending the same.
because she was the smart one in all things except when it came to the ferins.
some chip thoughts because listening to riptide made me think about him more:
chip "built different" bastard can seamlessly quip at his opponent and cut through them the next moment. he can fancy footwork out of your way while insulting your mother. the whiplash he gives his enemies with his lighthearted remarks and sarcastic oneliners probably stings just as much as his blades.
it's impressive.
and he uses it as a cover, hides behind every joke and quip. because underneathe the confident exterior is a scared little boy looking for arlin, an insecure young man who doesn't know his worth, a newbie pirate co-captain that makes shit up as he goes.
has anything ever gone this badly in a jrwi campaign before. I mean ig there were episodes of pd and riptide that went really badly but even that wasnt "Every npc in the entire campaign who you have met and/or cared for have been transformed into monsters with nothing left of who they were before the city has been taken over and destroyed and also one of the pcs betrayed the others and is now Actively Trying To Kill Them"
