To add other 2 cents to it, I personally don't like the situation you exposed especially because it takes away from Jay as his own character.
Hailey is a character that arrives when the show is already established, she's not one of the ogs, and she's clearly Erin's substitute.
But Jay... he was his own character before her... as any other character in the squad, we got a 360° portrait of him as a person, without taking away from the whole story and the unit itself. Even with Erin, he was not dependent from her.
With Hayley... he became the hot guyâ˘ď¸ with the hot girlâ˘ď¸, and I hardly dislike this, cause he had so much more potential (like @andgry4 said, it would have been nice to explore his gray areas and his moral compass more). He has been there ALL THE SEASONS, he could have been developed so much more instead of becoming half of a ship.
As for the actors, happy for them, but people need to learn how to tag shit here. No probs if he's your celebrity crush, just don't flood the Chicago PD tag.
*Long Sigh*
TL;DR - Why do Tracy (Hailey) and Jesse (Jay) from Chicago PD get so much attention for no reason? Whatâs the matter with other characters/actors?
Listen guys, I get it. I understand. Yâall love Tracy and Jesse. But come on - one post on Instagram and I see it several times?
It isnât right that I get more posts about Jesse, Tracy, Jay, Hailey or Upstead (and whatever their ship name is for their actors) in general than for things I actually care about in Chicago PD. I am glad theyâre living life and having fun and being friends or whatever they decide but I just donât understand the hype.
Shipping characters is great. Actors, alright, as long as itâs not pushed onto them or pressuring them in any way. But I mean⌠whereâs the love for everyone else? I rarely see appreciation posts for Elias Koteas (Al), Jon Seda (Antonio), Patrick John Flueger (Adam), Marina Squerciati (Kim), LaRoyce Hawkins (Kevin), Amy Morton (Trudy) or any of the other actors/characters aside from Jason Beghe/Hank Voight. Everything else under the Chicago PD tag is Jay/Hailey stuffâŚ
I guess Iâm just thinking itâs not fair that Jay/Hailey get all of this attention when we havenât even gotten a gif set of the S11 finale with Hank and Al (except when I asked myself and @andgry4 made me a very beautiful one). But I had to ask!!! Everyone just cared about Tracyâs departure from the show and said it wasnât enough when the whole episode was about her. :/
The show is about Hank and always has been. Heâs the main character, period. How does everyone hate him? I love his complex character. Not to mention how much better and complex his character is than anyone in Chicago Fire. (Not bashing the actors, but the characters themselves.)
I personally never cared for Hailey and I understand loving one character a lot, but when Tracy/Jesse post something on Instagram, itâs a big thing? Why? Who cares? And why do I have to see it four times per day with 0 other posts about anything else PD under the Chicago PD tag? (The Instagram post wasnât even about Chicago PD, they werenât on set or anything, so why tag it that??)
I guess Iâm just wondering what makes them so special over anyone else from the show? :/ It is obnoxious that so many people love them so much and âarenât watching anymoreâ or are âfinally freeâ because Tracy and Jesse left. If you didnât like the show, why watch in the first place? I like Jon Seda, but I only watched one season of La Brea because it got kinda boring to me. I wasnât âfinally freeâ of it, I just stopped watching - simple as that. If you donât like the show, quit watching. I donât care whoâs on it. It could be my favorite actor and yet if it wasnât interesting, I wouldnât watch itâŚ
Itâs incomprehensible to me why theyâre so special when theyâre not even on the show anymore anyways⌠I get the fanfics and donât mind them. But things like this? One post on Instagram that theyâre being friends? Crazy how much attention the fandom gives to this instead of anything else Chicago PD related. đ¤ˇââď¸

And then people shit on him just cause he's a man, while women are the ones writing about abusive relationships and romanticising them đŠ
Iâve finished The Nevernight Chronicles trilogy and now I donât know what to do with myself. I want them back. I want this world back. I miss the sass, I miss all of them.
Also, Jay Kristoff asking her wife to help him write the smut and making Mia a well-rounded character and making it all about the female pleasure is a fucking mood.
I love his style. Heâs a cinnamon roll. Canât wait for The Empire of the Vampire.
Mia Corvere is a badass bisexual beast with a heart of gold and I will die on this hill.
I want this on a T-shirt đ
(and also printed and displayed everywhere like old school propaganda)

I don't think you're wrong... in my opinion, caring for a poc character means to also want some development outside of the skin color related tropes... that's when we're equal, when we cherish, protect and respect our origins, but we're all also allowed to be just humans with stories.
As an European who lives in a melting pot country, tho I understand the USA history is different, seeing Americans' fixation for race is deeply saddening.
My analysis of Kevin Atwater.
I think Kevin Decided to become a cop, probably because he witness a lot while grow up with him siblings, the same siblings he basically raised alone.
One point that I can say for sure, but I have a feeling that happens is de collision of his duty as a cop and the fact of being a man of color, you grow with this call bro code.
We first met him as a patrol in Chicago fire and kept into PD as Kim Burgess first partner. He manage a promotion to the intelligence and that's the place where's he show how good he is. Aside that his young brother always put himself in situations that's like or not could be affected Atwater job.
He proves himself as the perfect link between the team and the black community, helping the unit understand how is the reality and that one of the biggest point of this caracther arc.
I think we can say that besides having a history with Burgess, Adam Ruzek is his ultimate partner and how their bond and friendship is strong and grows to the different( a role model that skin color doesn't matter in the end)
Him and Voight have a paternal relationship( like Voight has this father figure aura with him) and how they manage to overcome the racists cops who target him in season 8(I think)
Not to mention that his is definitely Mikayla Godfather, been there to help Kim to understand how raise her daughter in the black Culture that she belongs.
Kevin Atwater is a brilliant well written and presented piece of this amazing universe call one chicago
