"If you wanted me to stop I could stop any time."
Frist, the Fanatic β played by Caleb Obediah
In your benevolence, the Fanatic wishes for A grey day tomorrow.
@merelymatt says, Caleb is a sweetheart, and I need you to know that now, because we made him play a real rotter. An unrepentant wrong'un. And it seems like he had fun with it! There's a thing he does as the character where he elongates and relishes the names of those he despises β if I ever hear my name in that cadence from Caleb, I'm running. I'll be halfway down the road before he hits the final consonant. Real life? Sweetheart. In character? Terrifying.
I am deep in my feelings about Follow the Leader today. It's almost six years old (will be turning six on 7/23) and it's been such a major part of my life that whole time. Technically longer since our first test recording (episode 0 if you will) was recorded on 5/25/2018.
It's something that's brought me closer to several of my friends, something that has really changed my life, and something that I'm deeply proud of. We're always improving, always striving to tell good stories in an engaging manner. I feel like we hit that goal almost all of the time.
I'm just a little sad because we've had some absolute banger recordings for season eight (which started Monday) and I worked really hard to make them cinematic and impactful, but we don't have much of an audience so not a lot of folks will hear them. Seriously, I feel like we've gotten some really great roleplaying out of all our players this season, and it just sucks that we don't have a wide reach. Like, I can't stop thinking about the recording we just did (for ep 88), or the one before that.
Idk, it's just a little discouraging. I'm not going to let it stop me from having fun with my friends, which is why I started the podcast in the first place. I still want to continue telling stories. It's just... no one out there is doing it like we do, and it makes me sad that because we're not playing D&D, people who might find our stories interesting won't give us the time of day.
Bleh. Oh well. The only thing to do is keep doing what we do and being who and what we are. Which we're not going to stop doing any time soon. Here's to six years and as many more as we can manage.
I'm listening through what may well be the final round of fine edits on season 1 β send me the fortitude to not get too used to the words and the performances and the sounds (or worse, get tired of them) after listening carefully to each one 3 or 4 times! Ward me against that thing where you hear the word Benevolence so many times it loses all meaning!
Can any world survive a benevolent god?
Coming Summer 2024 from @foggyoutline and @wirelesstheatre:
(not final artwork)
In this upcoming audio drama podcast, each episode is a prayer, some prayers are granted, and a granted prayer can upend the world.
For fans of
Each episode of I Need A Miracle is a short monologue. A new character every episode. Never the same character twice. Always addressing a plea to a listening deity β which never makes a sound.
Play god
You, the listener, stand in for a silently listening god. Hear brazen demands for divine intervention and vulnerable, secret pleas for deliverance. Whose requests would you grant and why? Does anyone deserve a miracle?
Play detective
Which pleas are granted? How does the listening being decide? What are the Upheavals that regularly wrack this world? What threatens to rise from the Depths? And can any being with ultimate power truly be benevolent?
Play the heartstrings
I Need A Miracle is all about the many kinds of wanting, and the many ways of asking for help. How would you make your case to an omnipotent being who grants some miracles but not others, based on ineffable criteria?

So ummm...
We got Annette Badland. I got her to say silly fantasy things like "the Lectors of the Divine Benevolence"
"Theyβre saying all this is your will."
Meridian, the Philosopher β played by Annette Badland
In your benevolence, the Philosopher appeals for A sign of your loving indulgence.
@merelymatt says, what can I say about Annette Badland? A legend; a pro; we're so lucky to have her. Her first take was prepared and flawless, then director Rob gave her a different direction to try, and her second take was as flawless as if she'd known what he'd suggest and rehearsed that too. She just flipped a switch and immediately became this alternative version of the character, without a stumble. It's all the team could talk about for the rest of the day.
