The Funniest Thing That No One Talks About When Discussing The Nakamori X Kogoro Ship Is How Conan Lives

The funniest thing that no one talks about when discussing the Nakamori x Kogoro ship is how Conan lives with Kogoro, and Kaito is basically Ginzo's adopted son and the two would have to interact if their respective paternal figures suddenly got together. Imagine them moving in together or just getting serious with dating... Ran and Aoko are best friends already. Conan is squinting in suspicious incredulity at Kaito (if he knows KID looks so much like him, if not he'd figure it out pretty quick) and Kaito is trying to subtly inch away from the murder magnet child in case he kicks a soccer ball at him.

Meanwhile, with Kogoro and Ginzo:

Ginzo: And this is Kaito-kun. He's our neighbor and a very talented aspiring magician. His mother is basically never around, so I hope you don't mind him being around a lot. The kid needs some parental presence in his life... And he's my little Aoko's best friend... I couldn't not

Kogoro: Fucking absentee parents. The brat is Conan, his parents are using us as a babysitting service. I swear, he didn't even get one call from them in two months. By this point he's mine too...

More Posts from Midnight-weird-thoughts

Feel free to tell me how this wouldn’t work in canon but I think it’d be cool if the flame you got depended on what you needed when you were about to die.

hello there, thank you for the ask! <3

you know, i actually once theorized myself the flames you get could depend on your needs/wants as a person instead of your personality the way it's common and popular in the fandom, so i'm all for your take too. and i do think it could work in canon actually!

i mean, strictly canonically speaking your dying regret simply triggers your flames if it's strong enough independently of what the regret is about or the easiest way to deal with it, but it's a very little reach to do from there to your idea. it fits right in with the dying will flames lore we got as a whole in the manga too. and i agree it'd be super cool and fun to play with in fanon, because it'd put more weight and meaning into your dying regret and the type of flames you get as a result, and also would make for an instant “backstory” for anyone who's active, and would give instant insight into the type of person they are.

because like, two people faced to the same regret might not go about resolving it the same way. or two people faced to the same regret do end up with the same type of flames, but it could still mean something different from each other, and in this case it would give you instant insight into their dynamic on top of that (i'm thinking tsuna and xanxus having both sky flames, which in this au would be even less obvious than tsuna and dino being both sky for example). OR someone being faced to a regret but not ending up with the type of flames you thought they were more likely to get as a result of it, and in this case it'd give you instant, surprise, deeper insight into their character, and also in a way instant character development.

okay you know what, i actually LOVE this idea! there's a lot you can do with it character-wise, and it's right up my alley, so you’re welcome to tell me more if you want/there's more to it!

Dick: *cooking*

*window lock clicks*

Dick: …..

Dick: *turns the flame up to full heat, throws in a full fish skeleton, pours in whole can of tomato purée and condensed milk*

Jason: Dick-

*fire alarm ringing from the smoke*

Jason: What the fuck are you making? Move! Don’t you know how to cook?!

Dick: Nope. But my baby brother is now here to help me!

Jason: …disgusting. Outta the kitchen

Dick: ❤️

Based on this:

Dick: *cooking*

I headcanon that Nightwing can cook but he chooses not to because it’s easier. He doesn’t let people know because that’s another thing that will be expected of him and he already has too much on his plate so he just lets them assume he lives off cereal and takeouts. The batfam has never bothered to check because they’re too busy but Alfred knows he can cook because he taught Dick himself in the comics. Overall it’s just another aspect of his somewhat manipulative personality.

Toichi died (yes he DIED GOSHSO) when Kaito was 8 correct? So while Kaito had learned a lot of his magic from his father at that point, the rest he must have learned by himself. Imagine a young Kaito, determined to be the greatest magician in the world meticulously studying the videos taken of his father, with each watch he takes the tricks apart piece by piece and he realises something as he does... he feels no joy learning his father's tricks, in fact he almost feels like he's killing the magic that he loved. It wasn't the same as learning the secrets from his father's mouth or impressing him by showing how he figured out the latest magic trick he showed and challenged him to learn, no learning it this way hurt, it hurt too much, and yet he needed to know, needed to master them just as his father had before so he could one day become as great as him.

When he encounters people after his magic show wanting to uncover how its done, or even unravel the mystery for everyone who had previously wanted to be fooled, it takes him back to those days where he would slowly destroy his father's magic so he can recreate it. Critics, he calls them in his head. The murderers of magic.

So when Kaito encounters a little boy, a boy who should be too young to be this jaded and take pride in pulling his tricks apart in that smart and arrogant way, he labels him the same as he did the others, another critic.

And then the boy comes back. He deciphers another trick with a smug smirk directed at him yet there is a joy in his eyes, one Kaito doesn't see often in these types of people. Kaito realises, the boy isn't proud of figuring out his tricks because he enjoys killing the magic, no he loved the challenge and the mystery behind Kaito's magic. He enjoyed it just as much as he enjoyed figuring out how he did it.

Kaito is reminded of those times when his father challenged him to figure out his magic trick, how proud he felt when he finally managed to do so and how eager he was to tell his father that he had. This wasn't a critic who wanted to impress himself, no, he wanted to impress Kaito.

And Kaito found he wanted to impress him back.

you know tsuna’s seal might have been blown out of proportions in fanon, but the fact the vindice were apparently left flameless after the pacifiers were removed from them, and they literally can’t move unless bermuda give them some of his flames, i mean.

also the fact that normally the arco just straight up die when the pacifiers are removed from them after they can’t feed them any more of their flames, kind of establishes you can’t survive without flames.

even though of course the curse isn’t just anything to go through and would leave sequels for sure no matter what, but like, why couldn’t the arco just get back their adult forms and live their remaining lives in whatever state they might end up in?

also in the future arc lal says she draws the rain flames from her pacifier in exchange of her life force, and even though it might just be in her case/because of the curse, it also establishes flames are somehow linked to your life force/life span.

so like, it’s pretty much canon cutting someone out from their flames has bad to life threatening effects.

there’s this fanon trope about flames = personality, but what if it was less about personality, and more about wants and/or needs? as in:

tsuna, the boy bullied by his peers, the boy everyone gave up on (including himself), isolated and ostracized and alone and lonely simply for being himself, something he has no control over, has sky flames and their harmony characteristic, the ones that bring everything (everyone) together despite how different and opposite (and far away) they might be to each other, the ones that accept all (the way he never was), and are accepted in turn (the way he never was)

gokudera, who ran away from a home that never really felt like his, but who was then stopped from finding a home that’d could feel like his, deemed unworthy of it, has storm flames and their disintegration characteristic, to never yield to the world telling him to give up, to disintegrate a path through the walls in front of him to what he has only ever wanted (to disintegrate through his own self-destructive insecurities)

yamamoto, who lived one last straw away to end it all, and then did try to end it all when he broke his arm, because if he doesn’t have baseball he has nothing (he is nothing), because baseball is the only worthy thing about him (is all he’s worth), because baseball is—(approval, acceptance, friendship), is—(suffocating expectations, sickening fear to mess up and lose it all, heavy burden of always needing to do more, be more, weighing down on his shoulders), has rain flames and their tranquility characteristic, to slow the world to his pace for once, to wash away the pressure (including his own) of being the person people see him as and finally finding out who he is (who he wants to be), to keep himself grounded when the world asks more of him than he can give or he is willing to give, so he’ll never feel like before again (so he can protect the people he found simply being yamamoto with wasn’t so hard or scary anymore from ever feeling like that too)
