Decided, Ok, Maybe I Will Take Care Of My Mental Health And Try To Deal With This Before I Actively Tried

Decided, ok, maybe I will take care of my mental health and try to deal with this before I actively tried to kill myself. Went to a psych ward. The one I tried to get into was full so I got sent to one which fucking thankfully had the county pay for me but this meant they had no resources whatsoever, there was absolutely nothing to do but watch tv and I didn’t get to talk to anyone one on one until I had been there for over sixty hours. Despite calling my store and telling my boss separately that I was literally in the fucking psych ward I got a call every single day I was there asking why I wasn’t at work because she did not communicate this to anyone. And then as soon as I came home I discovered my roommate had packed literally everything in my room into a suitcase and she’s kicking me out tonight while I have nowhere to go. Remember to take care of your mental health guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Why can't I transition to be intersex?"

This is a sentiment I see a lot in the trans community, and I believe it is because of the fundamental misunderstanding of how the term intersex is seen. Most people, even those in the queer community, see intersex as a rare third sex where you are born with both genitalia. This is inaccurate, and perpetuates a harmful stereotype!

If you want to transition to be 'a rare third sex with both genitalia', by all means, go ahead! But do not call this transitioning to intersex, do not say you want an intersex body, do not involve intersex people in it!

There are plenty of words for this, bigenital, transneutral, altersex, salmacian, etc! These words actually portray YOUR EXPERIENCE transitioning to this state, unlike co-opting the term intersex.

Intersex is defined as being born with and/or naturally developing anatomy, sex characteristics, hormones, or chromosomes that do not fit the typical definitions of male or female - in short, there are a LOT of ways one can be intersex, not all of these ways are obvious. We are not a third sex but rather an in-between state that cannot be neatly categorized into either of the two modes (male or female) of the bimodal sex distribution.

The operative word here in defining intersex is that you are born with these traits, or they naturally develop later in life, such as during natal puberty, with no medical interventions to cause them. This is what intersex refers to. You cannot transition (medically alter the body), to be intersex (a non-medically-achieved state). It doesn't work like that.

On the flip side of this, an intersex person cannot transition to be perisex, as perisex is a non-medically achieved state referring to the state of your body in the absence of medical intervention. This means that nothing the medical industry can do to us will ever make us perisex, no matter how badly they want to. If you can transition to be intersex, does that mean those of us who have experienced medical violence to "fix" our bodies have been successfully made perisex? Because that is what you are insisting when you insist you can transition into being intersex or perisex via medical intervention.

Intersex people are a violently erased group with very few people who are open and advocating for our visibility and right to bodily autonomy, compared to the trans community. By using this label when you do not have this lived experience with an intersex body, you are playing a part in our further erasure.

Taking my hot pink girlie testosterone to stay sexy and functional as a woman and a dyke! Fuck your intersexist bioessentialism!

I had to fight for this, hard. I'm intersex and was forced onto estrogen as a teen and it made me really sick. In my late 20s, I had a doctor convince me that estrogen was medically necessary for me - it wasn't - and put me back on it, making me ill for years.

In 2022, a nonbinary doctor denied me a referral to a gender affirming endocrinologist because I'm intersex and wasn't intending on changing my gender to man or nonbinary - because I wasn't transitioning. I was sent to a random endocrinologist that spent an hour trying to convince me I must be a man to be okay with my body, and that microdoses of testosterone for postmenopausal women isn't a thing. (It fucking is.)

Yesterday, my cool OBGYN prescribed me the postmenopausal woman dose of T and I had it in my hand the same day. I also take estrogen suppositories still. The theory is that my intersex body is postmenopausal and E made me sick - T might help. With energy, with pain. I've seen plenty of intersex people discuss this exact issue and how hard they had to fight for what they needed.

The idea of having my medical paperwork permanently misgendering me - just to try a hormone known to help people with bodies like mine - is appalling. I get misgendered constantly, I don't want to reinforce that. And this doctor got me this RX as a woman (diagnostic reason for the pharmacy: low libido. Untrue, but this is why postmenopausal women are often prescribed T)

Intersex people have to fight the constant hell of doctors treating the aesthetic correction of our bodies as medical necessity despite the real harm it does to our health. This is true for intersex people who are cis or trans. Have you been including us in your discussions and discourse surrounding gender, passing, affirming treatments, and sex? If not, shouldn't you?

And if you're a terf that made it this far, since I know you all are trolling our tags to bemoan our alliance with "TRAs" - suck my medically enormous clit lmfao imagine being mad about other people's fucking bodies and lives
